Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Jackie

we posted at the same time!! Good Luck on the upcoming Blizzard!

I mean, if we pretended 'Ohana was large enough to split, how would we go about it? :confused3

Yep, I'm having bad flashbacks of being picked last on my high-school softball team. And volleyball. And... :rotfl2:

Would it help if I promised not to pick you later than next to last? ;)
Seriously, though, it might be a good problem to have...a team so big and active, but I have a feeling it won't come to that. Although I have been wrong before (I was rooting for the Jets and Vikings last weekend. :rotfl2:

to be fair - The shirts that were there from the beginning (the BRIGHT yellowish/green dayglow) some felt werent "wicking" material... so they went and found a company that had a more "fitted" style - they were more "green" (but they didnt have a woman's XL so some felt left out) So, some went out and found another company - these shirts were stand out bright and were a wrap around design (we had seen others wearing this company's shirts in '08) ah, but picking the design - everyone had an opinion (and some had reason for the opinion - which was great - it became a History lesson of the DIS WISH shirt! gotta luv the feather!) Anyway some PM's were sent that were really mean spirited and imho uncalled for, feelings got hurt, and people took a "break"....

I'm going to be serious for about 2 seconds here and ask a personal indulgence from Ohana. As one of the people that received those PMs saying that I was insensitive, uncaring and not taking into account the feelings of every single one of what was then about 200 team members, could we please not dredge this up again?

Carrie and I put a lot of time and effort into shirt orders. We don't get paid, in fact, with trying to accurately calculate Paypal and shipping fees (which includes international to teammates in Canada and the UK), we usually end up on the wrong side of the dollar.

If we could find one shirt vendor with an array of sizes that fit every single one of us, with the right color (lime is not always easy to find), the right fabric, and the right price that would allow us to order individually instead of batches once or twice a year, it would be a godsend. Until then, we're doing the best that we can.

[*]I need to see cute pet pictures.

Okay. You covered for us on the team debate, the least I can do is fulfill the easy requests. :)

Here's an album with pictures of the new puppy.

Corinna - I've got my Garmin manual (305) around here somewhere. Let me find it and let you know what it says about intervals.

Oh, and welcome to all the other new team members! I'm looking forward to getting to know you and everyone else too.

Super cute puppy pictures!!!!

Mel:  I love my WISH shirt, thanks

As for the DL half, I'm not sure where we are staying. We stayed at Candy Cane in '08 and DL Hotel in '09. I really did like being "on property" last year mostly for the pools because it was so hot. Everything is so close there it doesn't really matter where you stay- you can walk to everything. We are still in open debate about it. Also not too sure what our childcare situation will be although DD6 will be with us in CA, that much is decided. As far as airports, I don't think that matters too much either. LAX worked well last year and lots of people fly into SNA (John Wayne/Orange County). We flew into Ontario, CA in '08 and loved the airport. It was an easy drive to DL. The flaw with ONT is that there is no Disney shuttle so you have to rent a car. Unlike in WDW where we use the rental car, at DL it pretty much sat in the hotel lot all week unused.

John -- That's an awful lot of cuteness right there! I don't think I could put that sweetheart down!

Maria :upsidedow

This may have to go on next year's race calendar:

Dances with Dirt

Welcome to Terri and Erica!! Glad you could join us! I think I'm #271 on Half Fanatics.

John...the pup is too cute!

Jackie...thanks, but I'm good on the dogs things. Three is most definitely enough for us right now. We refer to them as Pack Chaos.

All the DL talk has me with some serious medal envy :thumbsup2

I'm doing my best to workout and get ready for the Princess 5K, but I'm starting to feel like "what have I gotten myself into?" ... I'm getting nervous that I'm not going to make it and I'll get swept.

It is bad luck to run a Disney race longer than a 5K without eating soft serve ice cream - chocolate or chocolate/vanilla swirl the night before. It's true!!!

My son is feeling a lot better and will be going back to school tomorrow. I, however, feel a sore throat starting. I told CASH: If I'm sick the way I might be sick this weekend, YOU are running the projections in Hades. :scared:
I hope it's not bad luck to eat ice cream before a 5K too! ;)

I hope you get better soon! My husband got a stomach virus earlier this week and I keep feeling off and on that I'm coming down with it. Maybe I just got a mild case of it? It would be a first since I'm the one that catches everything and he manages to never get sick!

Oh, and I've been meaning to share this story with you about the marathon weekend. DOOD and I stayed for a couple of days afterwards. We had just finished breakfast at the Kona Cafe, when a young woman stopped us at the Poly. She offered us some of her and her partner's wedding cake! Turned out they had leftovers and were leaving that day. They didn't want to waste it & offered us some! Isn't that the sweetest thing?

She was really shy about it, too, so I hope I didn't overwhelm her with thanks. I told her DOOD and I never had a wedding cake--true--and her gesture was just beautiful. And that I hoped the two of them would have many happy years together. :cloud9:

Yeah, and people wonder why I like Disney so dang much....
Awww! That's really sweet!

Maybe one day I'll tell the story of how my MIL lost our wedding cake. I’m pretty sure I am not wading into “that” debate. I considered it, and thought better of it. Isn’t discretion the better part of valor?
Oh that's horrible! Our wedding cake nearly fell on the floor and my mom caught it and spent the better part of the morning before the wedding fixing the icing on it. They kept trying to get me to get in my wedding dress, but I kept fussing "I need my mom!!" Little did I know the disaster that was going on. :lmao: Consequently, I didn't get any "fun" pictures outside with my bridesmaids beforehand and there wasn't time afterward because we had to get busy driving to Orlando. I still hate that I missed out on those pics. Oh well.

Mel - I just happened to be cleaning out my PM boxes last weekend and reread my messages as I was deleting them, including our PMs both times I ordered shirts a couple years back. For each of the 2 shirts orders I placed, you wrote me back several times to confirm all the details and I can't imagine how much effort you put into the whole order. I am glad I remembered to thank you in those messages.
FWIW, I like having a "yellow" shirt and a "green" shirt and wished it had been warm enough to wear the green one at WDW earlier this month. My "green" shirt was a size too small and it was my goal for that year+ to be able to wear it for the Disney marathon, and I did in fact lose enough weight to be able to get into it.

Thanks for the welcome!

Let's see - some info about me....first of all, Erica is MY HERO for doing these races with the pain that she deals with. Incredible.

Name: Hah - I got this one! Terri

Day Job: I'm an engineer-type. I get to hang around with smart people alot, hoping that it rubs off on me.

Family: Yep - and they are my everything. I have a hubby - the long suffering man who is a SAHD, and daily taxi service. My son is 18, and my daughter (and race partner) is 15. Add in a rescue part-shepherd/part something, and a shelter adopted kitty (aka psycho-kitty) and that's a full house!

Location: Seattle!

Favorite race you ever ran: Even though I had some medical issues at the end - Disneyland 2009. I had two WISHers, Pat and Anne, literally pulling me through it. I will be forever grateful.

Best recovery food or beverage: CHOCOLATE MILK!

TV Shows you watch or have loved: Hmmm - Biggest Loser? Anything on Food Network.

Races Planned this year: So far this year, I only have the Seattle RnR and the Disneyland Half. Still just kicking around others.

Meaning of DIS screen name: None whatsoever!

Went to the health club tonight, hit the treadmill and did my walk 9 minutes, run one. Had a slower start, got the swing of things later on in the hour. Followed that with 20 minutes on the bike, 15 minutes of stretching, 30 minutes with the personal trainer. (Can I be done yet?)

Oh - the migraine issue. I get them too. During the toughest time (a few months ago) I got them every couple of weeks. They'd knock me flat for at least three days. In my case, exercise is one of the triggers, as well as certain foods. Hate them!

Also - I'm a bit "fluffier" than I'd like. Part of my continued racing and training is ultimately to lose weight. Not easy, to say the least!

Anyway - happy Friday night everyone!

Terri

So your birthday isn't May 1, 1976?

Congrats on the workout, I love going to the gym on Friday night because it is usually empty, but sometimes it can be hard to go on Friday nights.

John - very cute puppy, Border Collie?

Rebecca - Next Disney race I plan to work on my theory that it is good luck to eat a MIckey Bar during the race!:) and the weeding cake loss was mostly OK. My MIL lost the top section after the wedding not before, but really bummed out my wife.

So as not to feel left out, I also used to be a chronic migraine sufferer but it has been over two years since I have last had one without knowing why they stopped (no complaints!), although the frequency had been on the decline for several years.

So your birthday isn't May 1, 1976?

Hardly. I was about to graduate from high school in May of 1976! I think when I first signed for an account on a Disney website, just plain "Terri" was taken, so what was suggested was "Terri5176" - and it had a bit of a ring to it!

I like working out on Friday nights too - mostly because there's no getting up early on Saturday!

So there was a little story with it after all!

I think this is the most active I have seen a team thread on a Friday night.

amen!

Carrie and You - DO put in ALOT of time - and your caring hearts do shine thru - I apologize if I've offended you - its not easy trying to please so many - in shirts, hats, and teams...

In this venue - sometimes what's forgotten, its so much more than a message board! Its the people...

Thank you for sharing your feelings, thoughts, and experiences!

I really like the picture you have of the retriever - looks like a nice dog!

Thank you, Terri! We adopted Coco from the rescue group over 5 years ago after the death of my wife's assistance dog-- although Coco wasn't actually a "replacement" for Duke, she quickly became a member of the family. Sometimes too much so as she is trying to "help" me type this post out by hitting the keyboard with her paw! She is 9 now and hardly misses a step (she was 4 in that photo).

Our dog is a rescue as well - who is almost 9. We've had her three years now, and I can't imagine not having her here. We've had cats in the past, have one now - there's just nothing like a dog in the family!

We've taken spoiling this dog to a whole new level.....

Oh man, I'm tired. Definitely feeling under the weather mentally and physically and should go to sleep very soon.

I'm doing my best to workout and get ready for the Princess 5K, but I'm starting to feel like "what have I gotten myself into?" ... I'm getting nervous that I'm not going to make it and I'll get swept.

I hope it's not bad luck to eat ice cream before a 5K too! ;)

The Princess 5K is going to be lots of fun. Are you following a training plan? You'll be amazed at how you go faster on race day, I'm betting.

Eating ice cream before a Disney 5K is optional - I really shouldn't be placing my race luck in finding the right ice cream, I know.

Mel - Thanks again so much for all your work on the shirts. I LOVE my WISH shirts. They make such a huge difference to so many people's race experiences. I wish they weren't so complicated and frustrating, that is for sure. Sorry about the re-dredging.

I don't know about that Dances with Dirt series - which one were you thinking of? I'm not sure I want to go to Hell, Michigan....that is going to turn into a bunch of stars, but it is a proper name, so let it, I say.

Richard - I could not eat ice cream DURING a race. They got rid of the yacking smilie a while back, but if there were one, I'd tack it on here. You must have a stomach of steel! We need to start a list of "Stories we're going to tell someday, maybe." Your MIL wedding cake story. My "House of Blood" story. I bet everyone has one!

John - your puppy is incredibly, shockingly cute!

All right....Sorry I didn't manage to shout out to everyone. I'm fading fast here. :sad2:

IheartDoleWhips: In my experience, with the 5K being open to all ages and abilities, I've never seen anyone swept. I walk slow through mine, since I usually have an additional race the next day - and never had a problem.

Good Luck!
