CE - Congrats on the MOD status and I am so sorry about your friend. :hug:

Girl Scout Cookies - When do you think the girls will be out selling cookies at the grocery store stands etc? I might have to plan a trip to the States for the occasion.

Question for our favourite European:
If you were going to fly to Italy, what airlines would you go look at?

That research paper that Dr. Belle has me listed as a co-author for was accepted to the Milan conference. I don't really know if that means we can go, but IF... :banana: :banana:
Wow that's fantastic but honestly I don't have a clue as you'd need an airline that flew from the States to Italy :confused3 American Airlins probably does :confused:

I volunteered at A gift For Teaching where the teachers "shop" for free. My friend works there so I filed papers for her and then we went to lunch. :thumbsup2 We also went to Whole Foods and I bought wine :goodvibes which is more expensive there than at Total Wine. :rolleyes:
Sorry, dumb Brit again, but what do they shop for??? So did you get your free ticket or because you have an AP are you donating it?

We need some lighter drama on our thread too! :rotfl:
Are you saying my chocolate drama isn't heavy enough :rolleyes1:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Awesome! :woohoo: I need to know too because I hope to meet Mitch in Italy when he has his R & R from Kosovo. Or Germany. Anyone know a good airline to fly there?
See above, I hope you get to go :goodvibes

We still have not heard from the doctor on Doug's results. Turns out they were trying to call him on his old cell #. He gave them the new one last week - go figure. I suspect he will be getting a call in a few.
Hope he hears soon :hug:

Tomorrow our Brownie troop is heading to our annual "Cookie Kick-Off!". They'll be able to sample all the cookies, make crafts, and get lots of free goodies from different local places wanting our hard earned cookie "dough". ;) Cookie sales start next Saturday. :worship:
Have fun!

OK question for all you Girl Scout cookie eaters, are they really that nice that everyone looks forward to them????

Well it's raining here which has washed away all the snow so I should be able to get to golf again :thumbsup2 Just need it to stop raining now though :rotfl2:

You did WHAT??!!! :faint:

**sniff, sniff**:sad:

Oh, I can order more! Let me know when she's ready! :goodvibes

Thanks. :hug:

I looked at them and BA (British Airways, not TE's DD. ;) ) I just wondered if I flew American or BA or something to London, would there be something cheap to get to Italy. ;) Tickets on either of those are running in the $1200 range. :scared1:

OK question for all you Girl Scout cookie eaters, are they really that nice that everyone looks forward to them????

::yes:: It's not that they're gourmet or anything, but some are really good, and then of course it's the supply/demand factor that you can't get them anytime you want. ;)

Well it's raining here which has washed away all the snow so I should be able to get to golf again :thumbsup2 Just need it to stop raining now though :rotfl2:

Go figure!

It's supposed to be 44 or so here today - wound up at 46 yesterday! - but now they're saying 4-7 inches of heavy, wet snow Sunday night/Monday. :headache: We've been lucky and I shouldn't complain, but we were hoping to ski on Monday - and that will be harder if the roads are bad, etc. For our purposes, it would be better to have the snow tomorrow, then get it cleared out (Jo, we're fast at that around here) and have Monday free to go. Oh, well. We'll see. Janet, it says it's coming up from the Gulf, actually, so are you getting anything? Supposedly, even if we get 4-7, the main storm is south of us again. :confused3

Lazy, lazy start to the morning. I think now, though, our plan is to go get the boys some ski poles (they've been too short to need them, but now in ski club, they are learning parallel turns, which are easier with poles) and the present for the birthday party tomorrow. Basketball practice is at 2:00, then we'll see what is up for tonight with the informal memorial party.

It's gorgeous outside, and I'm feeling better today - I'm sure I'll be sad when I see Deb, but acceptance is settling in.

I hope you all have fun and fabulous Saturdays! :grouphug:

Oh right, have a look at easyjet or cheapflights.co.uk maybe also ryanair they're pretty cheap :thumbsup2 And if you come to London we HAVE to meet or you'd be in big trouble :rotfl2:

I wouldn't dream of not seeing you. :hug: Thanks!

Seriously, they are SO tired from last night, they need to go to bed. And I need my wine... :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Hope they went peacefully!

OMG! We watched The Blind Side on Andy's iTouch on the plane and I have to say what a heart warming story! I loved it! :cloud9:

Is that the one with Sandra bulloock? I want to see that!

our Brownie troop is heading to our annual "Cookie Kick-Off!". They'll be able to sample all the cookies, make crafts, and get lots of free goodies from different local places wanting our hard earned cookie "dough". ;) Cookie sales start next Saturday. :worship:

They had it here last night. I only know because my friend Denise sadi she had 250 cases of cookies at her house:scared1:

You did WHAT??!!! :faint:

**sniff, sniff**:sad:

I want a box of samoas and a box of tagalongs please:flower3:. Let me know how much with shipping

Girl Scout Cookies - When do you think the girls will be out selling cookies at the grocery store stands etc? I might have to plan a trip to the States for the occasion.

I think it varies Lessa. T said hers start tomorrow, but I know around here they started last week. If you go to the girl scout website there is a tab where you can put it in a zip code and find out when they are going to start selling in that area.

OK question for all you Girl Scout cookie eaters, are they really that nice that everyone looks forward to them????

They are good, and I am not a cookie eater normally. Like CE said, part of it is supply and demand since you can only get them this time of year.

Well it's raining here which has washed away all the snow so I should be able to get to golf again :thumbsup2 Just need it to stop raining now though :rotfl2:

See, and you thought you'd be happy with all of that snow!;)

I hope you all have fun and fabulous Saturdays! :grouphug:

You too:hug:

++++++++++++++++++++++

It is 54 degrees and sunny today:yay: We went to the zoo this morning and it was a beautiful day for it. We just got home a bit ago and Jimmy is tired. Hopefully this will transfer to a calm bedtime tonight:thumbsup2

Jim is out cleaning up the yeard and I am doing nothing:thumbsup2 Not much planned for the rest of the day, just vegging I think.

Hope you are all having a good day.:grouphug:

It's been a year already? Be sure to pass along the info.

Sorry, dumb Brit again, but what do they shop for??? So did you get your free ticket or because you have an AP are you donating it?
Sorry, I should have explained better. It's mostly for teachers at low income schools, but any teacher can go and shop for things the kids don't have money to get themselves. Along with all school supplies there is underwear, socks and little "prizes" that the teachers can give out. A group from Universal was there with me yesterday and they were stocking Shamu picture frames, water bottles and little girls purses. I am going to donate my ticket. The other options seemed a little lame.

Are you saying my chocolate drama isn't heavy enough :rolleyes1:rotfl2::rotfl2:
Chocolate drama is the perfect drama! :rotfl:

I looked at them and BA (British Airways, not TE's DD. ;) ) I just wondered if I flew American or BA or something to London, would there be something cheap to get to Italy. ;) Tickets on either of those are running in the $1200 range.

:scared1: but if I can go, I'll have to charge it please. :rolleyes1

Does that make for good skiing or no?

It is 54 degrees and sunny today:yay: We went to the zoo this morning and it was a beautiful day for it.
I like the zoo membership for a birthday! :thumbsup2

I was supposed to go look at houses with my sister this morning, but at 9.45 she hadn't called, so I went to the store. Of course she called whilst I was out. :rolleyes: The bathrooms are clean and my bedroom vacuumed, so that's a start. :thumbsup2 My friend called last night and said she wanted to come for our birthdays. Her's is 3 days before mine although she's a year younger. :rolleyes: That's an idea I can get behind. Sorry Mom. :rolleyes1

I've been completely out of the loop. Our computer started having Virus protection issues, so we took it into the Geek's to have it fixed. Took them a little over a day and now I've got it home, I'm now having Spyware issues.:confused3 I think I'll just go buy a separate Spyware software that is compatible with Windows 7. Ugh. :sad2:

Now to catch up. :surfweb:

We have AdAware and it works really well. Of course we don't actually pay for them but have full versions. ;)

Huh. Guess I'm a moderator now. :rotfl2: I filled in a form, thinking they'd tell me more about it - and I've not gotten any confirmation, information, anything - but I've got the tag.

Don't be scared - trip reports only. ;)

I'm excited you are a moderator! I wonder what the heck happened to them wanting me to be one?! I emailed and everything!? weird.

I got a response from the teacher yesterday... she made a mistake. A MISTAKE. He's not falling behind, he's improved greatly, and he's in no danger of being held back.

WTH!!!! That is just crazy!!!!

Well, there's good news and awful news. The good news is that Deb didn't have to make a decision after all - the awful part is that her mom did pass away on her own last night. :sad1: :sad1:

I'm so sorry! :hug:

Nope - I called around and NO ONE wants it because no one wants the liability of accepting something that was recalled. The irony of the fact that millions of people are without practically anything in poor Haiti, and I can't GIVE away a like-new stroller here because people are so terrified of lawsuits is not lost on me. We're so screwed up. :sad2:

Have you tried craigslist?? I have had a lot of luck, esp with electronics. we are currently selling our old laptop and a few other electronics there.

My gripe for the day is I can't believe how expensive Cadburys chocolate is getting :faint: I know very important ;) but a few months ago a 200g bar was £1.25 and now it's £1.84 :eek: I can't cut down though so need to find a job :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Priorities!

Awesome! :woohoo: I need to know too because I hope to meet Mitch in Italy when he has his R & R from Kosovo. Or Germany. Anyone know a good airline to fly there?

I have no idea if they fly there but we discovered Spirit Airlines yesterday and they have some really good dseals, and a sale going on this weekend with $9 flights!!!! :scared1:

We still have not heard from the doctor on Doug's results. Turns out they were trying to call him on his old cell #. He gave them the new one last week - go figure. I suspect he will be getting a call in a few.

Gee not like it's an important call or anything. Silly doctors!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We had a really nice day yesterday. We went downtown in NYC, got some french pastries and some cupcakes and wandered around. We ended up walking to Chinatown and got some great Chinese food for dinner. I am addicted to Edamame! Then we did some more wandering and random shopping and ended up at Starbucks for a while. We grabbed a late evening slice and then went home to pig out on the desert stuff we had gotten and watch a movie. We watched Fame. Don't bother. I didn't like it. I wanted to watch Couples Retreat but the copy I downloaded didn't work.
Today it's all about getting things done. We procrastinated laundry all week. So that has to be done. We are also menu planning the next 2 weeks and grocery shopping tonight.
I also have to write out the invitations for the vow renewal/5th anniv party because WE FOUND A RESTAURANT FOR BRUNCH! It was so hard to find a place to take a party of 18 without it being an arm and a leg and a special menu only large parties can choose from. We made the ressie at a cute little french spot downtown in NYC with an awesome brunch menu and most of them were between $10 and $ 15 a plate! So the ceremony is officially in Central Park and then we will head to the french spot. I am happy the plans are coming together.
I got match books for a favor. I plan to get a few boutiners(sp?) for KC and Andy (who's marrying us). I dunno what else I need to get? Any suggestions???
Anyways sorry to run on, time to get to work!
Hope they went peacefully!
Yep, but we were late again tonight... :(
Does that make for good skiing or no?
Well, as good as we are at snow removal up here, it would probably make for better skiing on Tuesday, AFTER the snow is better. If it's heavy and wet, it's not great for skiing - too sticky. :confused3
I'm excited you are a moderator! I wonder what the heck happened to them wanting me to be one?! I emailed and everything!? weird.
Thanks, but I'm still a little baffled. ;)
The day wound up being fairly nice. We did some looking at roof racks for the new car, then bought cookies at a bakery and I dropped D & the kids at b-ball. I went on to Target and the wine store, then picked them up and on to Deb's. Her step-siblings came at 3:00 yesterday and then left this morning at 9:00. :confused3 Long drive for no stay, but whatever. So, the night was us and them and the people we're staying with in Feb. for the ski vacation (as we did last year) and the other "holiday" friends, with Deb's sister and her mom's one friend who came out. It was nice, we drank a LOT of wine, and it was just kind of low-key and lovely with some tears and lots of laughter. :thumbsup2
So, that's about all I know tonight. Hope you've all had a good one. :grouphug:
Hi! Just poppin' in to say "HOLLA!" I mean, "HOLA!" ;)
CE - :hug:
I'm beat and cold. I swear I haven't had a chance to warm up since last weekend. :rotfl2: And now rain is forecast for the whole week. Ugh!
Night, all! :grouphug:
I thought you had the only warm place in the whole country!:rotfl:Actually this week the highs all have a 7 for the first number. :banana:
It was nice, we drank a LOT of wine, and it was just kind of low-key and lovely with some tears and lots of laughter. :thumbsup2
Probably just what Deb needed. You're such a good friend. :hug:
Football went just like I wanted yesterday so let's hope today does as well. CE, will you watch the Australian Open? I saw that a bunch of players scheduled exhibition matches to raise money for Haiti. Mitch says there are rumors that his unit will have to go since they are a medical unit. Who actually knows though because that place is such a rumor mill. :rolleyes:
Hi! Just poppin' in to say "HOLLA!" I mean, "HOLA!" ;)
:lmao: That was funny!
I had a misspelling, so you're comment disappeared when I deleted & corrected it, but I knew you'd appreciate it! :rotfl2:
So, I extended our March trip last week and this week I upgraded our hotel from POR to the Poly. :yay:
It's been a dream of mine to stay there and I'm so super excited!!!
Today the girls have a show-off for friends and family, so I'm excited to finally see the dances all put together and in their costumes. Our first compeititon is this weekend. Baylie will dance her solo Friday night, but with about 40 girls in her category, we don't expect to medal. She's one of the youngest in her category this year, so we're mostly doing it for the experience. :thumbsup2 She's got an AWESOME costume and dance, though. Maybe I can post it on FB after this weekend.
Have a great day!
CE--I know American flies to Rome....can't remember where else tho. We are flying AA from Raleigh to JFK to CDG ..........and the back CDG to JFK to DCA (Washington) to RDU (Raleigh).......lots of connections but using miles for 3 tickets! Driving from Paris to Germany and back during the middle. I've got to get back to planning that trip---any suggestions appreciated....ok now I'm thinking about it again!
6/16: 3 nites at Hilton Arc de Triomphe (free!).....
3 nites at LandHaus Biehl (a small inn in Germany where Daran stayed before on business and loved it--check it out--it looks neat and the owners still remembered Daran....hope that's a good thing!)Landhaus Biehl
and 2 nites at a Marriott vacation club near Disneyland Paris. Get this--it's a 2 bedroom townhouse that I got for $161 Euro for 1st nite, and points for second.Marriott
Need to start planning where to eat and what to do in Paris and western Germany (trier area)----world travelers give me some suggestions--never been overseas!
Look up British Airways--Chase card if you would like free miles. We are working on a deal 100,000 miles in 3 months---50,000 miles with first purchase (done)....and 50,000 miles with $2000 over 3 months (almost done)
They SAY it's enough for 2 free tix to London--is that right Jo?? Never flown BA. I'm all about free though and Daran doesn't fly as much as he used to so I have to get creative!
Dawn--our competition was cancelled this coming weekend :sad1:--financial probs with the company producing it...so we are looking at alternatives for a few weeks out. Looking forward to seeing your pics!
We didn't see any football yesterday, but I did see the scores. I've not watched any TV yet this weekend, really, but that's cool about the tennis. Would Mitch go now?
D agreed last night to go take Buzz to the movie that is the party that Woody's heading for, rather than just dropping Woody off. I hate to not let Buzz see the movie, but I had no desire to go sit in a movie this afternoon. I don't know why - maybe it's just the movie. It looks funny, but I'm just not interested. :confused3
The kids slept in all the way to 8:00 (after going to bed at 11:00, so it's not that impressive ;) ) and they've been playing Wii. D is just now getting them the regular Sunday morning egg, bacon, toast breakfast. The party is at noon, so we'll not have a ton of extra time.
They're still saying big snow tonight into tomorrow morning, so our ski plans are becoming iffy. We don't mind skiing in the snow, but if you can't drive to the hill, there's an issue! :rotfl2:
Have a good one, everyone! :grouphug:
Sounds great! I highly, highly recommend Frommer's Paris guide. We found many good restaurants through it (and when in Nice, through their Riviera guide) - even the flight attendant who used to be in Paris all the time agreed that the ones we picked from my book were better than the ones she remembered. We also stayed fairly close to the Arc D'Triomphe, so I can recommend a few restaurants around there - once I go look up in my book. ;) Paris is pricey, almost no matter what, but these weren't out of the world expensive. We stayed at the Hilton Eiffel Tower, so... They are at least on the same side of the city. :thumbsup2
Use the Metro there, don't be scared. We had absolutely NO issues with rudeness, but I did try to speak French at least some - once I did that, I became "point person" at every restaurant, even though the waitstaff would speak English - they'd speak it to me, since I tried. ;) I highly recommend the free podcast "Coffee Break French" for that. ;)
I've only been 2 days in Germany, in Munich - where are you going to be? That was a tour back in the mid-90's, so even there I don't have much to recommend... It was pretty. :thumbsup2
Oh, and I totally second V's recommendation of a wine shop in Paris run by an ex-pat. I know it translates to "The Last Drop" but I'll have to look it up - or V will have to remember. :lmao:
I'm gonna copy and paste this to my Word trip planner. Ab is in French III at school---she can conjugate many words but doesn't seem to speak much...so it may be interesting! She has had to memorize the Metro stops for some reason so that might be helpful! I need to start getting in shape---I saw someone on Tripadvisor write that you have to walk a lot in Paris and Americans were all dying!
We will be in Western Germany--near border--Trier, Koln (Cologne??) area. Daran stayed there for several months at a time about 10 years ago and has really wanted to go back and see it. It looks rural on the net with big castles (real ones!).
If they go, yes. I thought it would be instead of Kosovo, but it's in addition. :rolleyes:
All this talk of foreign travel makes me want to go somewhere. :cool2:
One of my FB friends put together a photo scavenger hunt for something to do this winter with very loose rules. I'm not sure if we're supposed to take current pictures, or we can use old ones. I'm going with old ones, so I've been looking through photographs of our cruise. Also makes me want to go somewhere. :thumbsup2
