TEAM FIVE: Herc's Heroes--April Miles/Hours thread! Post here!

Hi folks!
For the week ending 5/2 I had 7.5 miles and 90 minutes swimming and a cupcake. A really good cupcake. ;)

Have a great week!

Hi everyone,

Congrats to all (last) Minnie finishers. I hope you had a great time in WDW!

Completed my first marathon Sunday the 4th.
26.2 no official time yet but I may have gotten in just under 5 hours.
I hope to be back on the road (at least walking) by Thursday.

Congratulations on your first marathon!!! So how did it go?! Did you do better/worse/ or right on with what you thought? Any aches pains, come on!! Inquiring minds wanna know!!

Dana

Hi Dana and thanks for the congrats. I was very worried for the two weeks leading up to the race. I was very afraid to fail or to be injured as I spent a great deal of time on the treadmill and on the road. I had some serious shin splints and knee pain after my last long training run. I rested for 4 days and hoped for the best. I just wanted to finish. The NJM has a very friendly 7 hour time limit. I felt great until mile 18 when my knees and shins started to hurt, but it was not as bad as I thought it may have been. I was thinking the best I could do was break 6 hours. Well thanks to the encouragement and support of the volunteers and the wonderful citizens of Long Branch NJ, I managed 4:59:55. I was very sore and unable to walk after the car ride home but I feel much better today and hope to be back on the road by weeks end.

Overall it was a wonderful experience. I credit the organizers of the NJM, who made sure there was plenty of food, drink, entertainment and support along the way. I also credit a flat course, cooperative weather conditions, and WISH.

I would recommend the NJM to anyone and especially first timers. Too late to sign up for Disney 09 (I'm doing the half again) but I may try another full in WDW 10. God willing.

I think being worried for the two weeks leading up to a marathon should be expected. I have run 4 races in my life WDW07, TOT07, WDW08, and Minnie08. For at least a week before each race I start freaking out, "What if I can't finish", "I should have trained harder", "I don't know if I can do this", etc. It drive DH nuts. He keeps telling me that I REALLY need to shut up. Just ask ANGIE, she heard him do it Sunday morning, lol!!

I am glad to hear you had such a wonderful time. I used to tell people that there was a hormone that was released after having a baby that made you forget all of the negative stuff about being pregnant and giving birth. Otherwise why would you ever do it again. I have learned there is something similar with running races. During the final stages of the race you are usually asking yourself why you did this willingly, and swearing that if you can just finish this one you'll never do another one again. Then a few days/weeks later you're planning your next one!! It seems like the after race hormone has already kicked in for you!! Hope to see you in 2010. I wanna go GOOFY!!

All about ME!!!

Well, I have been a little sore from Sunday so I've just been taking it easy. My right hip is a bit sore still, and my calves are a little tight. Today I am gonna try to get back to it. I know my hip is sore because I haven't been doing any strength work on my lower body (lunges, squats, etc.) So, I am gonna try to get in at least 30 minutes there along with a 5 mile run later today! I'll let you know how it all goes.

Missed putting in my weekly totals last week

Today I tried W5D2 again and this time I did it! I was dragging myself through that second 8 minute run and I bet I looked like I was about to keel over but I finished it running. YAHOO!

2.3 miles
30 minutes

Allyson - Awesome job!! I knew you could do it!! Week 5 is probably THE hardest week on the C25K program. It's quite a big jump from week 4 to week 5!! You should be so proud of yourself!

Well, as for me. So far today I have run 5 miles! 1/4 warmup and a 1/4 mile cool down, with 4.5 in between. Total time of 43:16. I plan on getting in that half "hour" of lower body work in a few hours. After lunch that is!!

Dana

Just realized that I hadn't posted my totals for last week yet.

8.86 miles
3 hours 16 minutes

I went for a walk/run with DH on Sunday afternoon. Managed to go 3 miles before my knee said "Okay. That's enough." Still, that's one more mile than I've gone before. I can walk farther, but not walk/run.

Congrats to all those who ran the Minnie! :woohoo:

Thought I needed to update. I'll probably be MIA for awhile, I have alot on my plate right now - school is ending soon (and all the stuff that goes along with that), dance recitals and a last hurrah trip to Animal Kingdom Villas before our APs expire. But, the biggest thing is I have finally scheduled my surgery! I'm scared and excited at the same time. It is scheduled for mid June.

As many of you know, I injured myself during my half back 3/30. After attempting to lay off it over and over and five bad runs that never went over three miles I finally went to the orthopedic. He told me it was strained quads and I guess my knee pain is related to that. I was told not to run for a month. I have been going to physical therapy and she thinks I can start back with walking next week. Right now, both knees and left quad feel fine, it is mostly in my right quad now.

Anyway, I took my injury as a sign to go ahead and get that surgery I have been wanting for quite awhile. Basically, I'm getting my mommy belly fixed. ;) Hoping to have some actual working stomach muscles after it is all done and hopefully improve my running.

With the combination of the injury and the surgery I will probably have to start back at square one once I get the go ahead. From what I understand this surgery is a real toughie! I still plan on doing the Donald with DH in January, but we'll see if I walk, walk/run, run/walk or run it. It is all a mystery right now.

I'll probably pop in every once in awhile this summer, but you won't be able to get rid of me once I can start running again (hoping by September).

On another note, my girls ran their first race last weekend! My ten year old ran the one mile race in 7:44! :yay: Course, she isn't as interested in running as my youngest, who came in near the end. :lmao: I bought them cute running skirts at Target with matching tops - I think they are tennis outfits, but they were still cute!

DH ran the 10K and had a PR of 49:40 and was second in his age group. He got a mug and was quite excited. :)

Thank you WISHers for all your support and advice along the way. I'm looking so forward to the half in January and meeting many of you. This board has alot of really good people on it. :grouphug:

Shan you can be on your team as Erica is on mine and Robert is on his, in injured reserve status. I'm sure your team would rather keep you. I will give your team the next available player to cover in the mean time.

Your personality and your positive attitude is not something that can be replaces. Your team will still benefit from your presence.

I hope your surgery goes well Shan! And way to go to your dds!

Today I did:

22.5 minutes
1.7 miles

BUT the cool thing about that? I ran 15 minutes straight for 1.2 of those miles! I have NEVER run a whole mile in my entire 38 years!

Allyson

Weekly totals Sat 5/3-Fri 5/9

6.3 miles

102.5 minutes (this includes the Pilates as well as the running)
