TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Hi everyone! Just popping in for a quick update/QOTD answer. I had a loss this week , but not as big as I had hoped :confused:beth
A loss is a loss.....congrats!!! Those small losses really do add up over time. Good luck with your new project.

Hi just popping in to say hello quick.

Nice to see you again!

I also have some changes coming my way. For those who don't know me, I moved here to Florida from New Hampshire last March. 3 of my 4 kids still live up north. The other just deployed to Kosovo last week for a years duty. On Thursday, one of my children, Aaron, will be moving down here for about 8 months or so. He's going to get a job and get back on his feet and then go back north. I'm kinda thinking (and hoping) that he'll end up staying. I'm hoping too that with him gone his other brother, who is very close to him, will decide to move down as well. So after many months of being empty-nesters that will change.

I'm in the beginning phases too of maybe starting a business. There is a lot of work (and computer time) that I'm doing which I think is also contributing to my slacking off in the exercise department. And my stupid Facebook games. :rotfl::rotfl:

Wow, that's alot of life changes all at one time....good luck with everything. Thank you for Aaron's service to our country. Please let us know how he's doing when you have time.

I didn't have a loss this week, so i need to do more i guess. :(

Hang in there !:goodvibes

I am trying to get a routine in. I walk every day during my dinner break at work. My building is 1/2 mile long, so we just go in the basement and walk. I need to get myself more motivated during the day to do a exercise DVD. I have been losing, so I plan on adding new exercises on each week.

Great job!

I lost .5 so I'm right there with you. Slow and steady wins the race sometimes
:cool1: for a loss!

Hi team Donald! I hope everyone is doing well this evening. It has been a little hard coming to post, but I have been moving along with my weight-loss. We have been snowed/iced in for most of the week, with the kids having missed an entire week of school. I can't wait to get out of the house this weekend!!
:woohoo:

Glad your weight loss is moving along!

Hey everyone - I'm coaching Mickey this week, so my time is pretty limited, but I wanted to stop in and say hello, and let you know that Brad officially made it through 1 week with no "misses"! I got this am at 4 and made muffins for him to take to his employees to thank them for stepping up.

Sophie's bday went well, other than a drama episode with her insisting (and meaning it, not just for dramatic effect) that she wanted to die so she could go to heaven and see Poppie. I finally got her calmed down and distracted, but it pretty much set me off for the rest of the day.

Shawn - You are drinking a beeedooodle of water already, you are right! Did you watch the game (Vt/UNC). I want to comment, but don't want to spoil if you haven't seen/heard.

:cool1:for Brad, one week succesfully completed! Wow, the episode with Sophie, that would totally freak me out. I didn't get to watch the game but saw the result:banana:and Duke lost last week too so it was a great week:banana: Have a great weekend:goodvibes

Ugh! Why does the second week seem so much harder? Doing the same eating and working out as the first, it just doesn't seem to be working as well. Weight loss this week, not as much as last, but everyday I seem to struggle in the late afternoons.

Ok venting over :)

Hang in there, you are still doing the right things, just don't quit!!!

It was a crazy week for me, but good!
ended up with 4lb loss :cool1:
got 4/5 on my quiz on my course :cool1:
Decided to start setting the alarm earlier and get up and do some WiiFit - did it 3 days this week :cool1: Plus show shoveling!
I have cut back on junk food and pop, and am feeling successful!

Got this quote on the daily newletter at work and thought it was appropriate for BL:
“Success is not built on success. It's built on failure. It's built on frustration. Sometimes its built on catastrophe. “ - Sumner Redstone

I was weightkeeper for the last few challenges and saw many people feeling bad about gains and not wanting to let down the group, and then they disappear. Group dynamic is great if it is motivating and that is the goal.

Great week Shannon and great quote:banana: That's so sad that people quit after a bad week or two. I hope everyone does know that they do not need to worry about letting the group down. It's just a friendly competition meant to motivate. Keep on with your healthy habits and when warmer weather arrives and lots of people start to think about getting in shape, you will already be way ahead of the game!

Today is Jan 15th and there are probably thousands of people who have already given up their New Year's resolutions! You are still here and trying!
Don't give up!

We have some rare sunshine here today so I'm going to get outside and enjoy it - have a great weekend Donalds!!!

We had you until the last 3 minutes of the game! Maybe next time! I was so glad Duke lost, too, especially since we beat FSU! Hang in there, you are so encouraging!

Good morning team donald! First, please forgive me for not personally replying to each of you who posted last night. Those of you who shared your exercise plan, thank you! To those of you who shared your experience with 30 day shred, I really appreciate it. I'm off to the rink for the next 6 hours and then to the gym. I need to get a good breakfast in first because I won't even be able to snack until 12:45. I will be on in the late afternoon or early evening and will reply better then!

QOTD - Saturday 1/15/2011 - What is your favorite vegetable? Please share your favorite ways of preparing/cooking/eating it!
I admit, this is a selfish question. I struggle a lot with different vegetables. I have doubled the different vegetables I eat but I still need to get myself eating more. I'm hoping there is at least one other person on team donald who can learn as much from the responses to this as I can!

Have a happy, successful Saturday that you will be proud of!

Kathy and P--Did I ever tell you about Tom and the shower? Tom always had a book in his hands--he would get in trouble for reading when he was supposed to be doing something else. Anyhow, I can't remember how old he was--somewhere between 4th and 6th grade I think--and he kept going in the bathroom and locking the door. And he'd be in the shower FOREVER! Well he was turning the shower on and then sitting there and reading a book and just letting the shower run!!! We tried taking the lock off the door and finally threatened to take the door off it's hinges! It was crazy! (And with his skin disorder he really needed a daily shower!) Anyhow, it's funny now, but we used to have to threaten to punish him if we even found a book in his bathroom! Those silly boys!
:rotfl2: I could picture michael doing this with his DS instead of a book.

I took DS to a naturopath/homeopathic doctor? I haven't been overly impressed by her, but the treatment really seems to be working! It is an answer to prayer! He is on three different supplements and one homeopathic remedy and since his initial appointment on 11/8, I would guesstimate that his skin has cleared up approximately 75%. That is with NO dietary changes and NO steroids or antibiotics!! :yay:

P
That is so good to hear, pamela. Poor ds has struggled so long, and I bet is was so nice to have something positive happening when you were going through everything with Dh. Congrats on your .6!! It's a good number.

:That scale is having some power over me right now but I am going to just prove to it that I am in control.
:thumbsup2 You have the power!!

Ugh. Can I just forget this week? :scared1:

No weight loss. Sorry about that team.

Hurt my back, so no exercise. Ate out too much -- even though I tried to order good for me food. :)

Glad a new week is starting, so I can put this one behind me. :moped:
No apologies necessary. We are here to support each other through the ups and downs, and good and bad days, weeks. Hope this week is better for you.

1/14/11 Friday QOTD - What does a typical weekly exercise plan look like for you? How often, when and what do you plan to do? How often do you meet these goals?[/COLOR]
Right now, I am training for the princess half and my week consists of 2 short run/walkss, 2-3 miles, and one long one, varying length, last week was 10, this week 5. Then 1-2 days of cross training 30 min at least, and I've been doing 2 most weeks. for cross training, usually wii-fit free step or wii Just dance. Shovelling's been thrown in there too on occassion. I don't have a set schedule each week, but have a chart where I'll fill in which exercise I've done and the check boxes to check when I've done each run or cross train.
I definitely will need to develop a plan for after the princess so I don't go to heck. I think with spring coming, it will be easier. When the weather is nice, i'd get out on the bike with ds, and last year, he definitely had more endurance and we got some good bike rides in.

Unfortunately, many, many people think that slim automatically equals "healthy".... but you can certainly be slim and unhealthy, just as you can be moderately overweight and be healthy.
It is SO SAD that these hoards of people lining up for GB surgery aren't being taught better eating habits, portion control, exercises, nutrition, etc, etc.

p
Years ago, I had a friend who was so thin but she ate crap, cookies and wine for dinner, coffee for breakfast, and never exercised, and I have most always been overweight, and even when I was normal weight, it was heavier than her, and I always felt I was healthier than her, stronger than she was, but in some ways, never quite as good as her because I was not as thin as her.

ON the gastric bypass, a few years back our hospital was starting a program with a new surgeon, but before you could have the surgery, you had to make regular visits to the lifestyle management center and have counselling, exercusem and stick to a diet to prove that you had the motivation to do what is necessary to make the surgery a sucess, and the majority of patients who started the process, started losing weight without the surgery and did not end up having the surgery. I know to women in town, a mom and daughter who had lap band a couple years ago, and they are both doing great, I see the mom out jogging, and they have written up articles in the local paper about them and their success, and it makes me so happy for both of them, especially the younger girl in her 20s who talks about her new lease on life, and the person who has always been inside really being able to enjoy life to the fullest.

Awesome pic, pictures like that make me almost wish I was a runner. With a background like Disney I could almost picture myself doing it. Now if they had a marathon that was from ride to ride.
You can run/walk too, or just walk it. ;) For 46 years, I never ran, hated it, and always felt that I could never do it or wouldn't even want to try. The past 10 months have changed that, and the thought of a possible disney race, was huge motivation in the beginning, but I never thought I'd really do it, but now, it's 6 weeks away, and I am going to do it, and I actually like to run. I can't run straight, but do the intervals, and hope as I lose some more weight it will get easier.

Hi team Donald! I hope everyone is doing well this evening. It has been a little hard coming to post, but I have been moving along with my weight-loss. We have been snowed/iced in for most of the week, with the kids having missed an entire week of school. I can't wait to get out of the house this weekend:
:scared1:Gosh, that's a long time. Hope you're able to be out and about soon.

Sophie's bday went well, other than a drama episode with her insisting (and meaning it, not just for dramatic effect) that she wanted to die so she could go to heaven and see Poppie. I finally got her calmed down and distracted, but it pretty much set me off for the rest of the day.
Poor little sophie. So hard at that age. breaks your heart. Have a great week as coach!!

We have some rare sunshine here today so I'm going to get outside and enjoy it - have a great weekend Donalds!!!

Shawnprincess:
Enjoy the sunshine, Shawn. I chuckled that liking girls will make boys want to shower. I think the dirty boys would be less stessful.:rotfl:

QOTD - Saturday 1/15/2011 - What is your favorite vegetable? Please share your favorite ways of preparing/cooking/eating it!
I'd have to say my favorite vegie is corn on the cob, just boiled, no salt or butter when it's fresh and good, it so soooo good.
Most often I make brocolli, just steamed, and when I'm grilling, it's zuchini, just sliced the long way in half, and I'll brush with olive oil, salt and pepper, and grill them. I should roast more often in the house, but I don't. Steaming seems to be quicker and easier, so that's what I end up doing.

Happy Saturday Team Donald!!
I have another 3 day weekend, since work was light on monday, I took the day off. I am going to clean my house this morning, then ds has gymnastics, and is going to a friends house to play, so I'm going to attempt to go for a run/walk. I'm going to change my usual route, and hope to find some quieter streets where I can run in the street after all the snow.

Have a great day!!

Good Saturday morning Team Donald.

Glad to hear so many people still did well on the second week. I know it is hard to keep up the momentum.

To those who did not lose or gained (I did not have a loss) today is another day and it is time to recommitt. DON'T wait until Monday. DO IT NOW. I am planning to go down and ride my exercise bike while it is still quiet today.

A little sad today. Ds2 is moving back to schooll tomorrow. Yesterday we went and replaced his phone which broke earlier in the week. He is all packed and can't wait to go back. He is ready to tackle the rest of his junior year. This year is supposed to be his most difficult and he is half way through. His fall semester grades were great and I know he is going to have another good semester.

I have to get some things done today so I need to get off. I will get back on later to answer the question of the day.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Favorite vegetable? Easy

Zucchini. Love it raw, love it cooked, love it in bread :)

Course I love most common vegetables (not a fan of eggplant, okra etc)

Good Morning Donalds!!!

Remember when we talked about how weekends affect our goals? Yea, well some good friends of ours asked us to dinner last night. DP wanted something hardy so we went to Logan's Steakhouse. Though I pretty much knew what I could order, before we left I got online and looked at the options and nutrition counts.
The website for Logan's isnt very informative. They have a healthy menu but all it tells you is that the plates are under 550 calories. No details other than that. :confused3
When the waiter brought out the TWO baskets of rolls, I asked DP to move them to the other side of the table. I chose the 6 ounce fillet with the health nut salad and broccoli. I ordered water and also ordered some kind of blue drank too. My intention was to only have the one drink but we started talking about Bloody Mary's so, I ordered one of them also.
I ate my meal, drank my drinks, had 1/2 of a roll and a bite of DPs brownie mudslide tin.
So, all in all - Im sure I did go over my calories but it could have been SOOO much worse, just on bread alone. Did you know each roll has 277 calories? EACH.

QOTD - Veggies. This is a good one for me. Our family LOVES veggies. There are very few my boys will not eat. However, if its anything out of a can, with the exception of corn, they wont touch it.
My favorite is asparagus. Ill eat it pretty much any way but my favorite is grilled. Just drizzle a little olive oil sprinkle with salt and pepper and throw right on the grill. Yum!

Last night, DP promised a 10 mile walk with me today. So, we'll see how it goes!

lovetoscrap (or if anyone else has an idea)--my smilies have stopped moving! I am sure I clicked something to make them stop moving but I cannot figure out what! Any thoughts???? I really like it when my smilies move!

QOTD~ I'd have to say that my favorite veggie is corn on the cob. Maybe because it's fresh season is so short, but I love it either boiled or grilled. The rest of the year, I'd have to say raw celery. I like to have it cut up in the fridge to grab when I want to munch on something. I think there's also comforting memories there, because my mom often put it in my lunches when I was little.

Tell me more about 30 day shred! I've noticed Mom2knk and others mention that they do it. What do you think of it? Do you do it every day or just mix it with other workouts? I'd really love a short workout that I can do 2-3 days a week on my days off of the gym. I've read reviews that say because it's short, it's not effective unless it's everyday. So, what do you think of it?

I think it's a pretty good work out! I use it a couple times a week, mixed in with some of my other stuff and let me tell you, it kicks my butt! (and I'm only using level one right now!) As someone else mentioned, I've also made some comments to the tv while doing it...makes me feel better to talk back at them sometimes. :rotfl: I picked it up at Target on sale for $9.99.

yellow squash, hand down.
I either slice it into rings and stream it in the ziploc steamer bags with a little butter and lots of Mrs. Dash lemon pepper or I slice it long ways into thin slices brush with olive oil and sprinkle with pepper and grill it.

Love it!!

Oh I think I'll have some of that this week.......

Did you know each roll has 277 calories? EACH.

BLECH!! DH always asks for bread when we go out. I have such a hard time resisting.

lovetoscrap (or if anyone else has an idea)--my smilies have stopped moving! I am sure I clicked something to make them stop moving but I cannot figure out what! Any thoughts???? I really like it when my smilies move!

When you did a post reply did you accidentally click disable smilies in text under additional options? That's the only thing I can think of.

Happy Birthday to Octoberbride03!!!!! I hope you have a fabulous day!!!:goodvibes

Rose I checked the disable smilies option and that's not it. You might want to post a thread in the tech forum.

Thanks! I can still see the smiles, they just don't move, but smilies on other people's posts move. Very strange!

Ok, I was wrong. Only the smilies in people's signatures move. Not in their posts or my posts. I had to have clicked on something!

Hi just popping in to say hello quick. I'm officially on team Donald as a maintainer. For those who don't know me, I lost over 50 pounds in the last 2 years which is good but now I'm having trouble stopping, so I think it's a good idea to stay on the boards. I'm at 122 this week so it's a little worrying but I've been working out on an elliptical sp? lately so that's probably mostly it. and that's good stress relief so I just need to watch it. Had kind of a rocky week emotionally, but overall things have been better than I've hoped for. I just need to stop predicting the worst and try harder to deal with the present as is.
I know the thread is always so busy after New Years, I'll start catching up more in the next week :-)

Susan! So nice to see you! :flower3: Good job on the stress relief and come back and chat with us more often! :goodvibes

Can I add one? How about how you feel overall. Not as tired, pukey, sluggish.
Since we stopped eating fast food and soda at the fast food I haven't had headaches, felt bloated and swollen, haven't needed maalox (I usually only get relief from this at Disney), I'm not winded climbing the stairs.

So true, Buffy! Who cares what the number on the scale say when you feel great? :thumbsup2

I've had you on my mind. Glad you are here, even if not on my team. I'm a Mickey... Hang in there!

Hey everyone - I'm coaching Mickey this week, so my time is pretty limited, but I wanted to stop in and say hello, and let you know that Brad officially made it through 1 week with no "misses"! I got this am at 4 and made muffins for him to take to his employees to thank them for stepping up.

Kathy - love your attitude with your loss. You go girl!
Lisa - I'm stealing some of your QOTD's from last week for Mickey this week. Hope you'll forgive the blatant plagarism, I am simply copy and pasting your words in the am! :lmao:
P - I love reading your advice!

Shawn - You are drinking a beeedooodle of water already, you are right! Did you watch the game (Vt/UNC). I want to comment, but don't want to spoil if you haven't seen/heard.

Everyone else - don't stress, or dive under a snowbank. You've got this! Keep on keeping on if you didn't have results on the scale you wanted. If you did, CONGRATS!

:wave2: Hi Taryn! Glad things are getting better at work for Brad. You know I get all my QOTD from sparkpeople so help yourself! :lmao:

It was a crazy week for me, but good!
ended up with 4lb loss :cool1:

this is directed to anybody having a bad week:
Don't feel bad! think about what you are going to different to improve things for YOUR own success and well-being!
I was weightkeeper for the last few challenges and saw many people feeling bad about gains and not wanting to let down the group, and then they disappear. Group dynamic is great if it is motivating and that is the goal.

and i think I'm starting to babble so i'm ending this post :goodvibes

Woo hoo on the 4 pound loss, Shannon! :cool1:

Listen to the wise words of our former weightkeeper -- this challenge is about sticking it out and making the healthy choices that you need for you. We are much stronger as a group with everyone, losers, maintainers and even gainers! :flower3: Don't give up!

Great week Shannon and great quote:banana: That's so sad that people quit after a bad week or two. I hope everyone does know that they do not need to worry about letting the group down. Shawnprincess:

Good point, Shawn! But we haven't given up! :flower3: You have a great week-end, too.

QOTD - Saturday 1/15/2011 - What is your favorite vegetable? Please share your favorite ways of preparing/cooking/eating it!

I love any kind of roasted vegetable: carrots, onions, potatoes (I know not a vegetable), parsnips, cauliflower. Toss with a little olive oil and salt and pepper and roast in a 400 degree oven turned every once in awhile until done. Delicious!

I also really like the Birds Eye Steam Fresh frozen vegetables that you microwave in the bag, especially for week-nights.

::yes:: me too! princess:

So, all in all - Im sure I did go over my calories but it could have been SOOO much worse, just on bread alone. Did you know each roll has 277 calories? EACH.

Isn't that amazing? :confused3 They probably weren't all that big either.

I had a 1.5 pound loss yesterday which was enough to get me my 5 pound star from WW. It's a balance to increase my mileage for the Princess and keep those calories where they need to be but the tracking helps alot.

Everyone in our house seems to have picked up a little cold so we will be taking it easy this week-end since DS has finals next week.

Have a great day DONALDS!

You may have a cookie or something. But you may not eat that cookie! :rotfl2:

I should have weighed in today! My little friend came so I'm down another 2 pounds. Hopefully I can control the cravings through the week and keep that 2 pounds off for the next weigh in.

Got through 3/4 of the C25K then walked another 1/2 of a mile. Right now I did 1.5 in 30 minutes. I have got to pick up the pace!!! But I feel better today then yesterday.

Happy Birthday Maureen!:dance3:

Today is Jan 15th and there are probably thousands of people who have already given up their New Year's resolutions! You are still here and trying!
Don't give up!

Shawn, your comment about New Year's resolutions reminds me of a joke I got last week:
Dear God,
All I want for 2011 is a fat bank account and a slim body. Please don't get them mixed up like you did last year!
As a joke it is a little funny, but there's a kernel of truth in there. If you are asking somebody else to give you the slim body, you will never get it. Others can help, but to change me, I have to make the change. And being here is making a positive step :goodvibes

QOTD - Saturday 1/15/2011 - What is your favorite vegetable? Please share your favorite ways of preparing/cooking/eating it!

I like many vegetables:
steamed carrots with some olive oil and dill.
raw sweet bell peppers
raw cucumber
carrot, zucchini and squash grilled on the barbecue
I like a vegetable beef stew. (a little bit of beef, beef broth, carrots, potatoes, green bean, yellow beans, corn, peas, onion, tomato).

Last night, DP promised a 10 mile walk with me today. So, we'll see how it goes!

Have a great walk! :goodvibes

testing :cool1::cool1::cool1:

That did the trick! I did not eat the cookie, but I did get rid of it.:rotfl:

Thanks!
