TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

1/10/11 Monday QOTD: Which strategy helps you reach your weight loss goals?
Starting & progressing slowly
Putting it on paper
Learning as much as possible
Utilizing plenty of social supports
Keeping things fun
Learning from my setbacks
Trust the plan
Consistency
All of the above
None of the above
Definitely all of the above at different times. Learning from my setbacks, and moving on and not dwelling when I do fall off and have a gain is huge for me. I've stopped beating myself up, and come to realize this is a lifestyle, and things in life get in the way sometimes, but never giving up has kept me at least in a little control. Putting it on paper, is key too, and I always lose more when I'm tracking. These challenges make it fun.
Great article Lisa. Thanks.

NE Running is a bit far from me but doable. I did find a store in Brookfield CT but it's just as far as NE Running. I'll have to see if DH will take a road trip with me, I hate driving in Mass.! LOL Thanks for the tip!
I don't mind $100 if it's for good shoes. DS14 should probably get better shoes then he has too.

ETA: I found a Fleet Feet in Hartford! That's a little closer.
Yay!! I did c25k for a few weeks in my 2 yo sneakers, and once I realized I was going to stick with it, went and got new shoes, and was amazed at the difference. Totally worth the price. And, what's wrong with Mass drivers? :rolleyes1

Morning ALL! When I sent Dh to work this am, felt like I was sending him to the wolves! Snow day here:banana: so I have lots of time to lift him up from home!

HAVE A WONdERful Monday!
Enjoy your snow day. I am jealous, a little, of the day off, not the snow. :hug:hugs and pixie dust to you and dh today. pixiedust:

Nothing exciting here. Used many of my weekly points over the weekend, so cut up a bunch of fruit this morning, and tomorrow I'll get the the grocery store. I think I'll make chili tomorrow night for the snow. That always helps to keep me on track for the week.

This week I'm also pushing to get all 21 healthy habits points, so I'll do some just dance tonight. Like lisa said, in the beginning, it's easy to be "ON", so I've been drinking my water and tracking really well, the hh will help to keep that going.

Have a great day!:)

party: Happy Birthday Disneyluvr & skmommy!!!!!party:

Sezkitten- Enjoy your snow day!!!

At DL right now, I think I'd be in Adventureland getting Bengal BBQ skewers and then ridging the Jungle Cruise :goodvibes

Have a great day everybody.

You, too, Shannon! :goodvibes

QOTD: I would be riding rockn rollercoaster with my daughters and screaming my head off!

Whee! :donald:

Just popping in to say hi. I have my WW weigh in tomorrow and I'm not overly hopeful. Tracking has always been hard for me so I decided that this week I would just write things down and next week (tomorrow) start tracking points. It doesn't help that I can't find my calculator. I hate that there is no slider anymore. Oh well. So in short, I just wrote everything down, didn't really try to change my habits and it's that TOM. But tomorrow is when I really kick things in high gear, so hopefully I can still post a loss by Friday.

QOTD: I would be watching the 3:00 parade!

It's good to start slowly with what works for you. :goodvibes

DS14 has challenged me with the Everest Challenge 5K at WDW. He is a cross country runner as well as the other 2 boys, DD will follow suit soon.
Their pace for the Everest Challenge is a 16 minute mile, which I can walk quickly but I know that's to slow for DS. I started the couch to 5K program from coolrunner and I really like it. I set it up on my iPhone and added music to it.
Oh and I am not a runner!! So we can be in this together!

Not a runner now? Neither am I -- I wasn't even a runner when I was a kid! :rotfl: But by golly I am turning myself into on -- one step at a time. Doing that race with your DS will be something that you will both remember all your lives! :goodvibes

any recommendations for running shoes? I know everyone has there favorites but I could use some steering in the right direction. I have a high arch if that helps, I used to wear Nike all the time growing up.
Any brands I should stay away from?
I am currently doing treadmill running but once it gets warmer I will switch to cross country, and very little road up until the 5K at Disney.

The kids on DS's cross country team use flats but DS like a cross country shoe more.

I echo getting yourself to a running store and letting them help you. It takes awhile because they have you try on lots of different pairs. But the difference in having a pair of shoes that is right for you -- pricesless! Especially if you've had PF before. I haven't had any PF and I suffered with it for months and months. You can do it! :cheer2:

Good luck on the Everest! I really think I can walk a 15 minute mile.. But I want to at least Jog it :)
I am going to work on the couch25K everyone is talking about. I did some reading today and it made sense. I even have a few friend who haven't when I told them! I think I may become addicted to jogging at least

Go, Abby, Go! :cheer2: You can do it!

Are they removing those big letters that say CALIFORNIA between the two parks??? :sad2: I LOVE those letters!

::yes:: Sadly, they are making the entrance look like DHS -- going for a more Art/Deco feel. They took down the murals, too.

Now on my next trip, I will have finished a nice mexican dinner, am sporting a shiny tiara medal, (hopefully) and am probably trying to stay away for illuminations!!

That is so cool. How exciting. It is so much more fun to get out and train when you are planning a disney race.

Can you believe it???? I think it was about a year and a half ago, you said joking to me, "maybe one day we'll meet at wdw and do a race". OMG, we are doing it!!!!!

Yeah, I seem to recall you told me that there was no way that would happen! :rolleyes1 Something about it being really cold somewhere? :rotfl:

1/9/11 Sunday QOTD: If you were at Disneyland or Disney World today what you would you be doing right now?

Probably eating a nice dinner in Epcot with illuminations to follow.

Sounds wonderful! :goodvibes

1/9 QOTD: well, im a little late for today...so..whats still going on.. EMH at MK. Yeah. That's it. :) Probably just walking around, taking it all in. :)

I've decided to plan out all my breakfast/lunch/snacks for the week tonight..hoping that'll pay off by friday!

Great plan! :thumbsup2

I would be relaxing back at the resort after a fun filled day at the Magic Kingdom.

This weekend went okay. I did a little exercise yesterday, mostly stretching. Today I had a lazy day and watched movies with my mom. Food choices could have been better. Yesterday I was so hungry I thought nothing could keep me full, even after drinking large amounts of water. Today everything is back to normal.

Hope everyone has a great week.

No worries, you listened to your body and are back on track now! :cheer2:

Morning ALL! When I sent Dh to work this am, felt like I was sending him to the wolves! Snow day here:banana: so I have lots of time to lift him up from home!

HAVE A WONdERful Monday!

You, too, Taryn. We'll keep sending prayers and pixiedust: your way!

I think that calorie chart is on my computer at work. Hopefully I will have time today to check and post.

Happy Birthday Disneyluvr and skmommy!:bday: party:

On another note, I had a nice surprise last night. Got an e-mail from the school district I work at stating that we are CLOSED for today! I have the whole day to myself to do whatever I want!

Yay for a snow day! :yay:

Have a great day all!

It was a good day for this family. DS's b.ball team won a close game by one point! And DD qualified for high school States in her 100 freestyle.

Yay, both super proud mom moments :cool1:

Hi everyone!

Just joined yesterday, and I'm so psyched to find this thread! OK, here are my answers.....

Welcome :goodvibes

Tonight the daughter of one of my vice principals is going to be on the Food Network Cake Challenge. It is the one about Monster Bugs. I can't wait to see it.

Oh cool, I love watching that show.

Happy birthday to Phorsenuf!!! Hope you have a fabulous day, today!!!!

Happy Birthday Phorsenuf

Good Monday morning I can't believe that the weekend is over.

Got up and did my 20 minutes of exercise. Just getting some breakfast and then off to a busy day. I only have 1 week until my student teacher comes so I have to get my classroom ready.

I can't believe we are getting more snow tomorrow afternoon. We have to go to a retirement reception tomorrow night. Hope you people in the south are safe. Drive carefully down there.

Have to go. Sorry it couldn't be longer.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Glad you had a moment to come say hi! Yup... snow on the way! We haven't been pummelled too badly this winter, so I can't really complain (even though I loathe SNOW :headache: ).

Morning ALL! When I sent Dh to work this am, felt like I was sending him to the wolves! Snow day here:banana: so I have lots of time to lift him up from home!

HAVE A WONdERful Monday!

BONUS DAY! I have also kind of given myself the day off. No doctor's appointments, cancelled robotics meeting (two kids unavailable), and DD is getting a ride to and from Rainbow Girls tonight, so other than this morning's YMCA run, I'm off duty (sort of.... laundry, dishes, meals still calling to me  ). Anyhow, I'll be sure to spend some time today praying for your DH's work situation.

Goood morning TEAM DONALD!

Hope that everyone had a great week-end is raring to go this week! :flower3:

We are getting into the nitty gritty of the start of this challenge. All the newness and excitement of a our new lifestyle is starting to wear off, it's cold and dark outside, and our bodies don't want to move -- they want to hibernate! And our families, our bosses and coworkers, and countless other folks in our life seems to be doing their best to show us that our best laid plans can go awry in the blink of an eye. So what do we need to do to keep ourselves moving in the right directions? Use some of our tools to keep us heading toward our goals.

FABULOUS article! Again, you have hit a homerun with today's QOTD! Thank you so much for taking so much time to provide us with such insight and questions to make us really THINK!

Well... for my QOTD answer, I'll have to say that the things that have helped me reach my weight loss goal have been...

1. Putting it on PAPER. Consistent journaling has been a huge key to my success.

2. Learning as much as possible. I continue to read about healthy eating, exercise, and weight loss. Even if I don't agree with the theory/method, I usually come away with some new knowledge.

3. Utilizing plenty of social support. And most of that support has been here on the WISH board and on these BL threads. I have very few RL friends and I decided to forego attending WW meetings this time, in an effort to save some $$. I don't actually know of another person IRL that is on a similar weight loss/healthy living journey. Sometimes that makes this very hard. But I know I can always find someone here to "chat" with when I need to talk.

Well... happy Monday morning everyone! Like I mentioned above, I'm giving myself some "ME" time today! I'm going to sit at my scrapbook table and scrap away! I have really been craving some down time and with no scheduled appointments today and no real need to go anywhere, I've decided that today is for ME! The house is reasonably clean from last Friday's clean-a-thon before DD's swim team supper. Christmas is gone from the house. No robotics, no swim (other than what is already done for the day), no snowboarding, no doctor's appointments. After DH is up and moving, I will make the bed and then get to my scrapping table. I'm gonna put on a silly old movie from Netflix to have some background noise and then just enjoy my day. I might even turn up the heat to 70° so I don't have to work in a heavy sweatshirt. :lmao: I've put some soup in the crockpot for lunch already and I'm pulling a casserole from the freezer for dinner (something that someone brought while DH was in the hospital that we didn't use up).

I don't want to sound whiny, but I've been a little stressed about all that has fallen on my shoulders lately. I know you will all understand and not judge me for getting a bit whiny about it. But I think a day to do what I want is definitely in order.

I'm excited that I am going to start attending a ladies' bible study tomorrow. This was something I did MANY years ago when DS was in preschool, but I haven't done it since then. I've really been feeling pulled to start getting out there again and to meet some other "like-minded" Moms. This seems like the perfect situation. It is once a week on Tuesday mornings for the spring (not sure how many weeks.).

I had some splurges over the weekend, but the ice cream cake is GONE, so the remainder of the week should be fine:lmao:. (but boy, was it good!). Breakfast was lowfat yogurt and fresh blueberries. I'll wait and have my morning hot drink about 10 am. I had a black coffee at 7 am on my way to pick up DD at the Y. Like I said, lunch is soup.... something packaged from Panera Bread.... lowfat Tuscan style chicken I think. Something else someone brought when DH came home from the hospital. Hope it is good. I might throw a few extra veggies into my portion.... maybe put some canned beans in the pot too. Has to be soft stuff that DH can chew though.

Well... I'm gonna go make so noise in the hopes that it wake up DH ("ooh, sorry.. did I wake you?? :rotfl2: ). Scrapping table is in the bedroom and I'm anxious to get up there and get working!

I'll be back later to chat!..............P

Whew I got about 10 pages to catch up. Was a busy weekend for sure. Eating and tracking was tough but I'll try to get a estimate of the damage. I plan to try to stick to the lower end of my calories this week by planning out my day a little. And get in my exercise to counter it.

I don't have time for personals at the moment since I need to get dd to the bus stop in a few minutes and I know it will take longer.

::yes:: Sadly, they are making the entrance look like DHS -- going for a more Art/Deco feel. They took down the murals, too.

Actually, I saw a Disneyland Resorts: Behind the Scenes on Netflix last night (probably a Travel channel show, but very new and I hadn't seen it yet) and saw the planned changes. Makes me sad, but at the same time happy that I at least had one opportunity to see it as it originally was. Those big letters were really cool!

Well... here it is, 10:08, and I'm not at my scrapping table yet. But DH is up and fed, laundry is moving along, dishwasher unloaded, bed is made, so next up is SCRAPPING!...........P

Good morning Team Donald!

So happy the weekend is over! Had fun, but too many times eating out due to continued holiday get togethers (that had been canceled due to snow). I did exercise, and definitely ate better than before -- but holy cow -- in-laws too us all to a hibachi place last night and the oil and butter were killing me.

Back to normal today -- exercised and had my oatmeal :)

1/10/11 Monday QOTD: Which strategy helps you reach your weight loss goals?

Although tracking is VERY helpful, I'm going to choose learning from my mistakes and readjusting my plan from there. I have often times been derailed with a setback and given up -- trying not to do that this time around.

Have a wonderful day!
Wendy

I think what helps me the most, beside tracking, is realizing that everyday can't be perfect. The key for me is having most days where I follow my weight loss goals and only one or two when that doesn't happen. I always "fall off the wagon" when there are more not so good days then great ones.

QOTD: I have to go with these two quotes. Tracking helps but I keep learning from my setbacks.

We're having a snow day today. The snow wasn't supposed to start until after lunch, but we woke to about 1 1/2 inches on the ground, so everything has shut down. The problem with snow days and me is all I want to do is bake: brownies, cookies, bread!! So hard to resist, so I am trying to keep busy.

Hi everyone!

It has taken me a little while to get caught up. Since I start at my computer for 8 hours a day M-F, I usually stay away all weekend, and this weekend was no exception. Now that I am back at work, I had a little time to catch up :) My weekend we pretty good. I got all of my exercising in by playing broomball on both Sat and Sun (we won on Say  and lost on Sun :sad1:). My eating was a little suspect on Sat though. We had a couple of friends over and had a couple of beers, which always leads me astray...as soon as I have 1 beer in my tummy, no matter how not hungry I really am, all I want to do is eat :confused3 I did a lot better than I usually do, but I did snack on a few chips and some crackers with goat cheese pesto. But, I am happy to report that I was back on track on Sunday and stayed under my alotted calorie intake :thumbsup2

Today I am planning to get to the gym over lunch and go for a quick run, then my BF and I are planning to do the P90X back and chest workout this evening. Now on to the QOTDs that I missed.

1/8/11 Saturday QOTD: How would you rate your "diet rage"?
Low- I'm moving slowly, but I'm on my way!
Moderate- Everyone's moving except me
High- I'm screaming but no one can hear me!
All Over The Board- It's stop and go all the way

Probably Low right now. Things seem to be moving in the right direction so I'm feeling pretty good so far.

1/9/11 Sunday QOTD: If you were at Disneyland or Disney World today what you would you be doing right now?

Trying to convince my BF that ToT isn't that scary!

1/10/11 Monday QOTD: Which strategy helps you reach your weight loss goals?
Starting & progressing slowly
Putting it on paper
Learning as much as possible
Utilizing plenty of social supports
Keeping things fun
Learning from my setbacks

Consistency

None of the above

I would say starting and progressing slowly, consistency and trusting the plan. I have done this before, and I know that it works. I just have to remind myself to stay patient and the stick with it. I also like to celebrate every achievement. If I keep telling myself "look what you have done so far" it makes it that much easier to keep at it.

Have an awesome day!

beth

Wow! I missed 2 days here, and I'm 10 pages behind! This thread really does move fast!

The weekend was crazy busy. My family has Russian Orthodox roots, so we celebrated "Little" Christmas on Friday. Since we weren't all able to get together on Friday, my Mom made a HUGE meal for all of us (Mom & Dad, Uncle & his girlfriend, DH, DD & I, my middle sister and her husband and 1 year old daughter and my little sister, her boyfriend and his daughter). It was soooo nice to have us all together and really celebrate the holiday without having to rush off to see our in-laws! Of course I ate way too much, but to me, a home cooked meal that I wasn't in charge of was definitely worth it!

On Sunday was my friends baby shower. The shower went off really well... and I held it together pretty well. Baby Showers are always hard for me because I would love to have another baby, but it just isn't that easy for us, and I'm not ready to take the next step again with doctors, hormones, etc. Anyway, my friend was really surprised, and all of the details came together really well. The cake I made turned out SUPER cute... I'll post pictures, hopefully tonight!

With all of that, I completely lost track of tracking my meals and didn't have much time to exercise, other than running up and down the stairs at my sisters house (where the shower was held). I was happily surprised this morning, though, when I stepped on the scale. I was only up .5 lbs, which, for all of the craziness, isn't too bad!

I hope you all had a great weekend! I'm looking forward to catching up on everything that I missed!

As for the QOTD for today - I think the most important things to me is (1) keep it fun, which I do by going to the exercise classes with good instructors, or running with friends, and (2) putting it on paper, or in my case, in my iphone. It's so easy for me to get off track if I don't keep track of what I am eating, or how I am exercising. When you combine both of those things together, for me, this lifestyle change is much easier!

Have a great day!

I'd have to say Learn as much as possible. Knowledge is power. And with power you can do anything.....

......except kill zombies on Black Ops, then power is bad, very bad, they can see you! :rotfl2: Whew, sorry! Channeling DS14!!! LOL

Happy Birthday to Disneyluvr & skmommy!!!!!

Uh, they're crazy!!!! and they leave their brains in Mass when they hit the state line.

I can say that though cause my dad is from Newton and Walpole. :rotfl2:

 Hope everyone is having a great day, whether you are snowed in, about to be snowed in or wish you could be snowed in.

Yesterday as indeed a much better day for me as far as staying on track. And I balanced out the cheating I had done on Saturday by going very heavy on the veggies to fill me up so I feel better about it. And DH and I had fun going shopping for fresh produce.

Which leads me to the QOTD for today.

Great article. I have to say all of the above depending on the day and time. I do think that it is so much easier to do this WITH my husband. He is super supportive no matter what but having him also following the plan makes it so much easier. I have done the "diet alone" thing and it really is hard. And he is really appreciative of the work that I am putting into this to keep our meals planned and keep us on track so that makes me feel good.

Happy Birthday to Disneyluvr & skmommy!!!!!

Hope you both have a fabulous day!!!!

Chili and Soup! Switch your cooking to those things, particularly if you can keep them in the freezer to pull out later on when you don't have time to cook.

I think starting and progressing slowly is important. I didn't gain it overnight, and I won't lose it that fast either. Just knowing that slow and steady can win the race is key!

DH and I had fun going shopping for fresh produce.

My DH needs to be like that- On Saturday he bought a HUGE bag of Ghirardelli chocolate at DTD... I was so mad at him. Thats when he told me he would spring for stuff if I wanted to get in shape.

Update: I am going to DIE ... if I could move enough to roll over out of my chair, I would fall over & die on the floor. :lmao:
I did 2 miles yesterday and a mile today fast walk. I tried to jog but I am SAD.. very SAD at this so far. Huffing and puffing the whole way!
Of course I didn't gain this weight overnight so it will take time and I refuse to give up! I want one of those medals in a bad way & just to prove that I CAN do it.
One day at a time or as Dory would say Just keep swimming!

Just finished 20 minutes with Jillian's 30 Day Shred. I had so much more endurance I made it through the first set of jumping jacks without out much effort and it was noticeably easier. OH OH OH and I did 3 whole knee push ups. :woohoo: I can say I feel fitter today than i was on the 1st for sure.

QOTD: Which one helps me reach weight loss? I'd say consistency really really really helps my weight loss. Learning as much as possible is good but unless I consistently apply those things I can't see weight loss.

WOW this thread moves soo fast! WTG Team Donald!! I am off to a slow start but at least it's a start.

QOTD: I find that tracking my food really helps me. I'm big on eating something and then forgetting about it (brownie? What brownie, LOL)

Thanks for all the B-day wishes! Going out to dinner tonight, but planning ahead to make healthy choices!

Always a little behind - well I wish I had a little behind I wouldn't be here!!!:rotfl:

1/9/11 Sunday QOTD: If you were at Disneyland or Disney World today what you would you be doing right now?[/COLOR][/B]

If I were at WDW - hitting ToT & RnR hard & then running to HM.
DLR - easy Pirates - the DLR version is soo much better than WDW

any recommendations for running shoes? I know everyone has there favorites but I could use some steering in the right direction. I have a high arch if that helps, I used to wear Nike all the time growing up.
Any brands I should stay away from?
I am currently doing treadmill running but once it gets warmer I will switch to cross country, and very little road up until the 5K at Disney.

The kids on DS's cross country team use flats but DS like a cross country shoe more.

I am another Asics lover. I have a wide foot and I find that Asics are much more comfortable, Nike & Reebok are too thin for me. I have mine ftted at Marathon Sports they do a great job.

Which leads me to the QOTD for today.

Putting it on paper - the tracking is doing great things for me & I am being brutally honest. It only hurts me if I omit.

Learning as much as possible - from everyone here. I am hoping to incorporate the good things & learn from everyone's pitfalls.

Utilizing plenty of social supports - Absolutely!! I think having DBF & DS onboard has really helped. Eddie/BF is keeping me on track and making ure I hit workouts even when he can't go with me. My DS will be starting workouts with me twice a week in Feb.

Learning from my setbacks - I know exactly when I mess up and the next time I garner way more resistance to temptation.

Trust the plan - BINGO!!

Consistency - Double Bingo! I am trying but it is sooo hard.
