A picture truly is worth a thousand words (well, unless they're Debra's, which by definition are priceless)...

Thanks for posting, it looks like a fantastic time was had by all!

Hi Cousins!

Jen G - How's the foot pain? I hope the rest has helped. :goodvibes Did you get new shoes? I've started to get some mysterious aches and pains lately and I think it's time for me to get new shoes as well. Now, to find the time for running shoe shopping - that's another problem...

Richard - Great race report. Congrats on your PR! :thumbsup2 Sorry about the blister.

Jen B - I can't wait to hear all about ToT. Glad you had fun! :)

Maria - Congrats on getting into training mode! :cool1: I will definitely be thinking of you when I'm running at 5:00 AM. It's kind of funny to think that we're both out there at the same time, probably 10 miles apart, and we "chat" here, but haven't actually met yet.

Corinna - Sorry to hear that other things have interfered with your training plans, but it sounds like your making the best of it! :)

Jeanne - Great pics. Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to a race report, and any other stories you might have. Was everyone well-behaved? I sure hope not!

Hi to Debra, Jen, Mel, Kayci, and everyone else! :wave2:

As for me, I've been putting the miles in, but my pace is terrible. I'm actually getting slower, and I don't know why! :sad2: I have a 4 miler scheduled for tomorrow, and I'm really going to try to push myself, at least to get back to my old pace.

Have a great week, everyone!

Oh my gosh, those witch hats are SO cute. Gotta love that Tower of Terror race! Did they do anything different with the theme this year? The suspense is killing me!

Julie, I hate to ask, but have you had your iron stores checked lately? Getting slower without any reason can be a symptom of iron deficiency. It can also be other stuff that I haven't personally experienced. OK, the poster child for anemia is logging off now. Good luck with your 4 tomorrow! :)

So my plan to run 3 or so got majorly derailed this morning. We were running past the house where Skippy's friend-dog lives and is on an invisible fence. I was trying to get Skippy to run past and stop on the way back (possibly not the wisest plan in the first place, but I didn't want to get stuck "playing" after only .3 miles. So then I realized that Boyd was following us.
Hmm. Not good. So I think I slowed down and was going to lead him back to his yard, BUT things must have gotten rowdy or something cause I ended up either tripped or bumped or pushed - I just don't know - and ended up falling down, knee, torso, face. I'm mostly OK, thank goodness. I have a slightly sore knee, feel kind of "off" in general, and have a good sized bump/bruise as well as some road rash on my cheek up near my eye. Also, my very nice sunglasses have a broken lens. It could have been worse. Teeth. Wrist. Etc. It did bring my trianing run to a screeching halt, though. The neighbor brought me a chair and some ice and I recovered a bit before walking on home. I'm going to see the chiropractor this afternoon. Wish I were out there finishing up my 40 minutes, though. :sad2:

Here's a copy and paste from what I posted on the race report thread:

Basically, the event was much better organized than last year. Packet pick-up at CSR was a breeze. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. The race began on time and there was no confusion at the start line. Participants self-seeded themselves into open corrals by lining up near the post indicating their pace (as in the Minnie). One big improvement was the placement of electronic timing clocks at nearly all of the mile markers. (I think Mile 2 was the only one without a clock.) That said, I think last year's event was a whole lot more fun. I really missed the insane asylum people from last year. Quite frankly, I am not surprised since the whole concept was not very Disney-like, but I loved it anyway! I guess someone must have accused them of not being very PC. This year there were fewer workers on the course......just some DJs, dancers (passed the same ones twice) and boom boxes piping in music. Another disappointment was the fact that the medal was virtually identical to last year's except the 6.5k engraving was removed.

Corinna - I haven't had my iron checked in years, but I do have a doctor's appointment next month. I'll be sure to have it done then. I'm so sorry to hear about your run/fall this morning. But you're right, it could have been worse and that's a great outlook to have! I hope that your next run is uneventful! :)

Jeanne - I'm sorry to hear that you found some things disappointing during the ToT race. I hope you still had fun! :goodvibes

Jeanne, That's a shame that they made it LESS themed. You'd think there'd be lots of interesting things they could do, but what do I know. Was it as disgustingly humid this year as last year was? Do you think you'll do it again or are you Towered out now?

Julie, it can't hurt to have it checked, I guess! Hopefully you'll start to pick up speed again before then. Are you taking enough rest days?

Good news over here - I too my nice sunglasses to the optometrist's office where I bought them and Ta-Da! They were still under warranty. Apparently tripping and falling on your glasses is not what they'd call inappropriate use? I wouldn't have thought it would have been covered, but the lady took my broken glasses and gave me a brand new pair. I am better off than before I fell!

I'm still waiting for my tech help for my pictures. I did post a report on the "race reports" thread. I thought the theming was pretty good (although I didn't do the race last year). I have to admit my favorite was all of the 80's music that seemed to be playing on the course.

I hope everyone is having a good week and gearing up for Halloween-- we sure are around here.

Oh yeah, us too. What costumes are in the works at your house? I've got one DS (9) who wants to be the Ghost of Jacob Marley - which is a costume they don't just sell for kids - I'm whipping that one up. :)

And one DS 5 who wants me to shave his head so he can be Avatar again this year. But I don't really want to because it's my grandmother's birthday this weekend and I don't want to worry her or her church friends with a bald child. He may be a Jedi instead. We have both costumes already. OR Hm. There is the Stitch Costume as well. I'm going to have to mention that one tomorrow. :stitch:

DH and I probably won't dress up as anything, though!

Anyone else have costumes in the works???

Good Afternoon, Cousins!

I am happy to report my training is continuing on schedule. Up again at 5 am (thinking of you, Julie!) for another 3 mi. It feels so good to be all worked out for the day.

Corinna -- My ds10 was an alien for Halloween. It worked out very well. His two BFF twin friends were also the same alien. The boys all love Stitch, so I got them stuffed Halloween Stitches from the Disney Store. The kids have a blast, and we have way more candy than any household needs! :dogdance: Great news about the sunglasses! :cool1:

JenB -- I'm a child of the 80s, too! Let me share the story that lets me know I'm old...ds told me he wanted to download "Let's Hear it for the Boy" to his ipod. I was busy trying to think where I put my Footloose cd, and he informed me it's a song from his icarly cd, he just needs to move it to his ipod. Apparently "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is also a new Miley Cyrus song.

Jeanne -- I'm sorry ToT didn't turn out to be all you were hoping for. I wonder if they scaled back because they didn't get the numbers they wanted last year? :confused3

Julie -- I am such an introvert. I think you would be disappointed in person. I can chat all day on the computer, but in person I get tongue-tied, I run over my words, and I have awkward social pauses...it's just not pretty. :crazy2: I guess there's a reason I write for a living...

Shout outs to all the cousins Debra, Nancy, Morgan, Denny, Richard, Jen, JenG, Mel, Kayci, Christa, oh, you know who you are!

Maria :teleport:

Hi Cousins,

Corinna - Great news about your sunglasses. Your boys sound so funny! How did the costumes work out?

Maria - An alien costume sounds like fun! I was thinking of you this morning when I was out at 5:00! :goodvibes I can be an introvert or an extrovert, it depends on the circumstances and my mood. I think we all get tongue-tied at times. It's sometimes easier to type (when you can reread and edit your words) than to speak face to face. I'm usually the one to say something really dumb, but I'm good at laughing at myself. I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Hi to all of my other cousins!

I ran 15.5 miles on Sat. So far, that is my longest run. The last mile was a KILLER! Plus, it didn't help that I fell at about mile 4 and scraped my hand, knee, and elbow. I've only fallen a couple of times while running, but it's ALWAYS on a busy road with lots of people around. This time was no exception. I was so embarrassed! I was with DH, and somehow that was better than falling alone. I don't know why. :confused3 My pace is still very slow, but I feel like I'm creeping back toward my normal pace. I think my problem is lack of sleep. This whole month has just been incredibly busy and there just don't seem to be enough hours in the day. Oh well, maybe I'll get off the DIS now so I can get to bed early tonight. I have to do 7 miles tomorrow morning. Wish me luck with staying upright. Or at least cross your fingers that if I fall there is no one around to witness it. I guess that is one of the advantages of running at 5:00 AM! :rotfl:

Have a great week, everyone!

Ouch...I distinctly remember attending a skating party with my little sister where we were singing Let's Hear it for the Boy

So I got some new running shoes yesterady and already I can really feel a difference. I think my shoes have probably been wearing out for some time. Anyway, the heel pain was a lot less while running. I only ran three miles, but still it felt a lot better. Trainer said to keep running to just 2 or 3 times this week (1 hour longest run) and then next week we can start ramping up again, starting to get ready for my first 1/2 marathon the 1st of February. I think things are definitely getting better. :thumbsup2

It's good to hear team Ohana doing well.

Maria: the 80's remakes scare me, am I really that old? I'm planning on loading up my ipod with great 80's tunes for running. During ToT they were playing "You Spin Me Right Round" as I was entering Hollywood Studios, I loved it :)

I finally figured out how to post pictures, so here is the family at Not So Scary Halloween Party-- I was Buzz, my DH was potato Head and my DD5 was Jessie, Woody and Bo Peep are friends of ours.

Happy elections day :yay:

Jen G - I'm glad your new shoes seem to be helping! :thumbsup2

Jen B - Those costumes are fantastic, and your little DD is adorable! :goodvibes

JenB: OMG, I LOVE THE COSTUMES! They are all so cute! Did you make them all yourself?

JenG: hope the feet are feeling better. After a long training session, I always switch to another pair of supportive shoes......it seems to make my dawgs hurt a little less.

Julie: WOW 15.5 miles....that's awesome! :worship: You go, girl! (AND don't forget to report it on the other thread! :lmao:)

Mel, Corinna, Maria: great to hear from you again....now where is everybody else?

Thanks for the compliment on the costumes. I made them all because I couldn't find what I wanted in the stores-- we wanted to be a unified group and Toy Story seemed a good theme. The other criteria was the costumes be "packable". It was a great excuse to be creative and play a bit.

Hey Cousins!

Just :car: to say "Hi"!

I have to leave work soon, so I'm going to get as far as I get -- if I leave you out don't be miffed, I'm thinking of each and every one of you! :grouphug:

Still hanging in there with the training. I have 30 min on the bike later, and 5 mi tomorrow. I don't know how the folks who train for Fulls or Tris do it, you guys totally rock! :worship:

Question of the day/week/whatever -- what is the most recent addition to your ipod for wogging? Mine is Pink's "So What".

JenB -- The Halloween costumes were totally awesome! I wish I had that kind of talent! You guys looked fantastic! :thumbsup2 And now I have to add "You Spin Me Right Round" to my playlist, too!

Jeanne -- Thanks again for being our captain :cool2: . It is greatly appreciated!

JenG -- So glad the new shoes are helping. It's frustrating when you don't know why things just don't exactly work right.

Mel -- I try not to think about all the things I knew ds has no clue about -- rotary phones, heck phones with cords, when you couldn't track Santa yourself on NORAD, so you'd watch the news. At least I'm not obsessed with the price of gas like my dad, so I guess I'm not ancient yet, just old.

Julie -- I'm looking forward to meeting you, too, and I'm sorry you fell! Some days I just can't get my feet under me properly...But after 14 miles I think you did very well! :goodvibes

Shout outs to the rest of the cousins, I'm sending a big :grouphug: so you remember we  you!

Maria :music:

Just dropping in to say hi. I nothing really to report other than LTO big time lately and my training mostly consists of one LW on the weekend and cross training during the week. Since it is dark when I get home and the treadmill walking really bother my right knee, I am doing the elipical, spin class and pilates for cross training. Time will tell if I will do the half.

It was great to meet up with some of my Ohana cousins at ToT.

Have a great week everyone.

Nancy
