Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Hello...Hello...Hello...Hello...Is anybody out there?

It seems like such a busy time for everyone, with work/family/etc. commitments. I hope to see everyone back here soon! :goodvibes I also can't wait to hear about Jeanne & Nancy's escapades! popcorn::

Debra, pixiedust: for you. I hope everything goes the way you want it to.

Hello to all of my cousins. Have a great week...wherever you are!

Hey cousins. I am back, but no where near being caught up. We got very wet in WDW last week at Fay come through Florida. Our rental car died, I fell down the slippery steps at POR and the airport lost one of our bags. But we went to WDW and that was great. I miss it terribly!!

I am trying really hard to get back on track now that I am back. Since we walked everyday there, that was my jump start. Tonight I did 15 minutes on the rebounder and 20 minutes on the TM.

I will try to catch up through the week. Work is insane, so bear with me. Oh and my kids started school today... and my baby started K-garten!

Hi Everyone,

This is going to be a hard, hard day. In addition to my crazy work life right now -- set to become normal again after Sept. 10th, thank goodness -- we had some really bad news yesterday.

One of our kitties, Gecko, is very sick. His kidneys have completely shut down, and since he is 15, there really isn't anything they can do for him. We're going to have to euthanize him later today, and it is breaking our hearts. My ds is inconsolable, and I just walk around and start crying at the drop of a hat.

Not to be a bummer, I guess I just had to share. I haven't been working out, but that's going to start again, along with eating better.

We usually go somewhere this week because ds is not in school yet and the camps have all ended, so we just take a vacation since one of us has to be home. This year we decided to stay home and work around the house. I am so glad we did. I would be very upset if we couldn't at least be here for him to say goodbye.

Our company is coming back today, but I think they are just staying one night. Once I get my house back (we had a long visit before they went to Canada), I'm going to focus on getting back on track.

I picked out Gecko about a month after we got married, so it is really hard. He was so tiny, he was the only orange tabby in a litter of Persians (I guess his father was a persistent little guy, too). He was the runt of the litter, and he only had one whisker, and it was bent. He wasn't very bright, we called him "fat, dumb and furry" -- he grew out of being the runt to be a bit tubby, but he was our kitty and we loved him. :sad1:

Anyway, I will be sad for awhile.

Everyone please keep working out and enjoying your movement -- I know everyone has alot going on and not much time to read or post, but do keep working towards your fitness goals!

Maria

Just a quick  for you. There has been too much loss on this team lately.

I personally am coming off of a crazy busy weekend trip to Washington DC, lots of fun but I'm exhausted. DD5 loved the zoo and the museums. We are now turning around and getting ready for the DL 1/2--- I can't believe the race is in just a few days. I'm not really ready but I'll do my best to get to the finish.

Hope everyone has a good Labor Day and starts to check back in with the cousins.

Thanks, JenB, I really need that today!

And I agree there has certainly been way too much loss lately. I know you are also still grieving :grouphug:

The trip to DC sounds like a great getaway. We keep saying we're going to take DS, It's just more than a weekend for us so we'll get to it eventually.

Can it really be time for the DL 1/2 already?! You are going to have a fantastic time! I've never done it in CA, but I bet it is so much fun! You will finish strong! :thumbsup2

Maria

Um, hello? I am very hesitant to post this --

When we took Gecko in yesterday, we saw a visiting vet. Today his regular vet called us, and told us he might be able to save Gecko through an intensive fluid therapy given over 3 days. Well, we're going to go for it. It may not work, but if it does he may live for a few more years.

We will know on Saturday if it worked or not. I don't want to let myself hope, but I can't help it. I think that pixie dust may have done it's work!

To celebrate, I am going to hit the TM with a veangance tomorrow morning. Ok, not so hard that I can't move Friday, but hard enough to glisten! I am also eating only my Points today. I totally lost my appetite, so why fill up if I'm not even hungry?

Maria

Maria, I hope the treatment is successful for Gecko!

Wow, we're a quiet bunch lately, huh? I finally got the go-ahead last week from the physical therapist to start running again. I initially thought the PT would just be pretty mild, but it was much more in-depth than I expected! Electroshock therapy (OK, that's probably not the actual term), ultrasound, lots of deep massage, etc. I'd been doing the elliptical so I don't feel like I lost much in the way of cardio. Did a few runs with lots of walking and finally worked up to a great 5 mile run this morning! No pain, felt great!

I'm still on the fence about doing the marathon in January. I don't know why I'm so wishy washy about it! I am probably going to do the princess half though, so I doubt I could swing 2 trips that close together. Gah, I just don't know.

The weather around here has been so nice lately! Unfortunately my husband's travel schedule has been awful, so I haven't been able to take advantage of these gorgeous cool mornings.

Might do a 10K on Saturday - if not, there's another next Saturday. Gotta love fall - tons of races to choose from!

I'm still in Olympic withdrawal, anyone else? So amazing to watch it all. And how cool was it that a 38 yr old woman won the marathon?!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Maria - HUGS on your kitty!!!

I still haven't caught up so please forgive me. I will try to this weekend!

I just wanted to drop in a quick message to my quiet cousins (where is everyone?)

We just got back from the DL 1/2 and had a great time. I posted a longer report on this week's race report thread. I'll get around to posting hours soon, I have to find the paper I wrote them on for last week... :confused3

I hope everyone is doing well and had a nice long weekend.

Hi Jen - welcome home! I read your race report - sounds like a lot of fun! And I love the pace teams. I ran with one when I did my half in June, my first one in a few years. We also did a 4 min run / 1 min walk. That helped so much!

Can't wait to see some pictures! Congrats on being a half marathoner!:cool1:

I ran a 10K over the weekend - I wrote a report in the race report thread. It was fun!

Hi Guys,

I will get back to posting regularly after the 10th, I promise. I had my fresh start today, getting back to my double dippin' on the workouts and eating better.

I lost 7 lbs. last month, so the double dippin' was working. I didn't do it much past the 16th, so I'm going to try to keep it going for the whole month this time. Not having company will help tremendously, as will the normal workload I should be down to soon.

Sigh. We lost Gecko kitty. He passed naturally, so we know it was his time. I've been half grieving for the last week, so I've accepted it and I know it's better that he's not in any pain or suffering. I won't go into all the details, but we had hope and it was dashed. We had the presence of mind to realize we should not bring him home in the state he was in, and that was a blessing. My ds did not have to see him pass, his last memory of Gecko is of a sick kitty, but it's a live kitty that he was able to pet and say goodbye to.

Anyway, I'm not going to dwell on it too much. DH thinks I'm crazy, but I half think his ghost is hanging around with us, laying in the places he loved. I certainly see him almost everywhere I look.

I have decided that I'm not going to count my weight too much other than the once a month for awhile. I get too upset with daily fluctuations, and I can see a real change if I look at it a month at a time. 7 more lbs in Sept., and I will be feeling much better about myself, so that's my goal. I know it's a big one, but why not shoot for the stars?!

Oh, and JenB -- I am so proud of you for completing the DL Half!

Kayci -- Woohoo on running again!

Jen -- So glad you had a wonderful vacation!

Maria

I really, really hope I didn't scare everyone away...I promise no more mourning my kitty....

I am back to double dipping with a veangance! It feels great! I am looking forward to a subsequent movement on the scale. I was also doing great with food until I had pizza tonight...I'll be making up for that tomorrow with salad!

This month I'm doing 2.250 on the TM for my short wogs, 35 minutes on the bike, and 25 minutes with weights. I always try to increase too much at once and burn out, so that's why I'm sticking with this for a month, then next month we'll have an increase. I'm trying to get to 3 mi for my short wogs.

Everyone have a great night!
Maria

You didn't scare me away, although I do wonder where the rest of the team went. I still need to post my miles but otherwise I'm around.

My DD started kindergarten today, I can't believe it. She did really well and seemed happy this afternoon when she got home.

My DH and I are now hooked on racing and are debating running in the ING Philadelphia Distance run on Sept. 21st. There are a few problems with doing it-- it is really close on the heels of the DL 1/2 (I am, however, now finally able to walk down hills and steps again without audibly grunting), I am on call that weekend and need to sell my soul to trade with someone, we have no sitter for the big kindergartener. Other than those minor glitches we are hoping to do the race but may have to settle for doing just the ToT in Oct when we go back to Disney.

I hope all is well with my quiet cousins and that you all get back to wasting time on the boards again soon.

Hello team.....I'm back! The Good news is I only had about 2 pages of posts to read. The BAD news is I only had about 2 pages of posts to read! WHERE IS EVERYONE?

Sorry to report that Nancy and I were fairly well behaved this trip. I may have a story or two, but right now I want to catch up with all the posting. I actually got home late Monday evening but spent 3 days just trying to manage my "catch-up" stuff.

I'm going to go do the recording and come after anyone who didn't post their activity while I was gone! Nancy was a complete exercise maniac! I think she had the hots for the guy in the spa and spent every freaking extra minute working out so she could impress him! She was even his personal assistant in spin class.:lmao: As for me...not so much. I was pretty good the first week, but hurt my back the second week and had to take it easy. After a Valium and 6 rum punches the spasm went away so it was all good!

Maria: so sorry about Gecko.....I know you must be terribly sad

Jen: welcome back. Hope you had a great time at WDW. I hope the fall wasn't serious and that your luggage was eventually returned.

More to everyone else later.....gotta go do some recording!

Hi all...I am here, I am alive, and my fam is well. Beyond that, LTO, and I plan to get back to my regularly scheduled posting soon!

Yes we were fairly good girls on this trip. Though I heard that the time I wasn't with Jeanne on the snorkling excursion she got a little carried away with the Rum Punch.

Jeanne-- I will make copies of the dolphin swim CD sometime this week.

I guess since Ian wasn't around to impress that is the reason my miles and time went down this week. I am going to have to find a personal trainer at the gym to keep me motiviated. :rotfl2: Really it was the TV on the elipical that keep me interested. I watched Music and Lyrics, Snow Dogs, Mad Money and most of LeatherHead while exercising. It sometimes took me several trips to get the complete movie in. I never did see the end of LeatherHead so will have to rent that to get the ending.

Life is slowly getting back on track. DH has the cruise crud that everyone was getting post cruise and I feel like I am starting to get it. From all the excercise I only gained what I had lost prior to going on the cruise. So starting Monday am going to get back on track with eating. I already back on track with exercise did spin and elipical Sat and 5.25 miles today walking. That is the first time I have walked outside in months. I am to start golf lessons on Tues if it doesn't rain so more hours to count for Ohana.

Maria---Sorry about your cat.

I hope everyone else is doing fine.

Nancy

Hey everyone, I'm back--and only two weeks after my projected return date. It's a long and boring story, but here are the highlights.

The Life
  • I DID get offered the job, for more pay than I expected but far less stability. I literally signed my contract 10 minutes before I walked into my first class and filled out payroll a few days after that.
  • I didn't have a university email address until last Friday. No big deal, EXCEPT I couldn't log onto my office computer OR bring my own computer and use their wireless.
  • No email meant I couldn't log into the computer in my classroom to show films. What does a film class look like without films, you may ask? Oh, a lot like a large-class lecture. BORING! (Even though I like to think I'm entertaining, I'm not that entertaining.)

Most importantly, no access to my work computer meant I had to re-do all my semester prep when I wasn't at the university. AND I couldn't even DIS when I was at work. :headache: I don't mind being told I can't DIS when I'm at work, but if I can't work when I'm at work too...

So I've been a cranky, cranky girl. Stress headaches, a new schedule where my working out has been sporadic (kept up with the running, but little else), and without you, my beloved WISHers. I'd come home, work, and then be too agitated to stay on the computer. I'm sure I'll remember the good times I've had in the last few weeks....eventually.

Okay, rant over. The good news is that I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Not really, but since I'm going to be behind the 8 ball all this semester anyway, I might as well return to the WISH fold, right?

Now off to read some of your posts and respond...

Gee, it seemed quiet on Ohana. Was it because I wasn't running my mouth? (Or fingers, as the case may be.)

Julie: How's the hamstring? Did you feel lonely without me around? I missed You!

Jen: How's your mom? Recovering well, I hope. I'm glad you had a good time at WDW, all things considered.

Johanna: Another person hooked on tris. It sounds like you're really motivated by changing things up with XT. I look forward to hearing about your training. What's your Aug. 2009 tri going to be, do you know?

JenB: Belated  on your uncle's death. I hope everything else in your life is going smoothly and am glad you enjoyed the DL 1/2. I'll try to look up your RR. Have you decided on the Philly Distance?

Richard: How's your return to running coming along? Smoothly, I hope? Are you still mixing in the walking?

Maria: Vicky Bliss, huh? I'll give it a try. Who doesn't love Egyptology? (Again, for Gecko. I know how I feel about my cats, so can empathize...) And yay for your 7 pound loss. You rock!

Kayci: Wow, that's some pretty intense PT. I hope it's making you feel great about the marathon. (Or at least the princess 1/2.)

Jeanne: I'm one of the naughty cousins about posting while you were gone. Totally unexpected, and I apologize. I'm even more sorry to hear about your back. Are you sure it wasn't an excuse to keep those rum punches coming your way? :rotfl2: You went snorkeling, though? Do tell!

Nancy: It sounds as if your trip was great, and every indulgence was well worth the experience and memories. And, better yet, one of your indulgences was spinning class with a hot guy. Yum, yum! You sound like you're back in the groove and mixing it up, as usual. I've always wondered about golf lessons.

I don't know if you're interested but I read Twilight, and now am on the waiting list for the next book. Only 183 people in front of me. (And 4 more people for the 4th Evanovich.) I've also finished Instance of the Fingerpost, but that's all the reading I've done since I last posted.

As for me: I did my first 5K race as a run, the Steeler 5K Fitness/Fun Race/Walk. Pretty poor job, as it was the Monday of Labor Day & after my 9 miler on Saturday. I was substituting a race for my regular Monday run, and so took it easy and finished in 36:23. It turns out that I really don't know how to race a 5K and, even though I wasn't trying to race it, I was disappointed. I could have done better.

Oh, and one other update. My dad starts treatment for his prostate cancer, seeding, this week. He's better now, emotionally, but is frustrated by all the "hurry up and wait" of treatment.

Hi Everyone!

I'm sorry for being a bad cousin and not posting much lately. Things have just been very busy around here with the kids going back to school and all. I hope to be back to my regularly scheduled posting now that things are settling down.

Jen - Glad you had fun in WDW, despite the fall, the rental car problem, and the lost luggage. I hope the fall wasn't a bad one.

Maria - I'm so sorry to hear about Gecko. It's hard to lose a pet because they really are part of the family. Congrats on the 7 pounds! :cheer2: Double Dipping seems to be really working for you. I could never be that motivated. You rock! :worship:

Jen B - Congrats on the DL Half! :cool1: How does your DD like Kindergarten?

Kayci - Great news that you're running again! :thumbsup2

Jeanne - I'm glad you had a good trip, but I'll admit that I'm kind of disappointed that you and Nancy were well-behaved. :lmao:

Nancy - So, tell us more about the guy in the spa. Do I need to cancel your cabana boy order? I don't mind keeping extras here if need be. :rotfl:

Debra - Congrats on your job. I'm sorry it doesn't offer the stability you were hoping for, but sometimes these things happen for a reason. The salary being more than you expected is a nice bonus. :thumbsup2 Those computer issues must have been very frustrating. I'm glad that they're resolved now and we'll be able to hear from you often. I definitely missed you! My hamstring is fine, thanks for asking. I hope that your dad's treatment goes smoothly.

As for me, I've been doing pretty well with my official training. I'm going to do 8 miles this weekend. That will be my longest run so far. I have been having an issue with headaches after long runs lately. I can't figure out what's causing them. Anyone have any experience with this? Maybe I just need a cabana boy to give me a nice, long massage after each run. :rotfl2:

Have a great week everyone!

Now, do you really believe Jeanne and Nancy were that well behaved? ;) I think we're hearing inklings of cabana-boyish encounters!

Headaches after LRs? My first guess is dehydration--that's what causes headaches and fatigue for me. I always think I'm getting enough water during the run, but tend not to be great about drinking water and/or electrolytes before and after. What are you drinking before, during, and afterwards? And are you eating any sports beans or gels during your LRs?
