Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

WELCOME, JOHANNA!!!
:welcome: :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

Glad to have you join the team......Ohana is the BEST!

Christa: I was just posting miles and noticed you had just under 200 last week! Cousin, you are a fitness BEAST!:woohoo: :woohoo: I think you put in enough miles single-handedly that all the other Ohana cousins can totally slack off and we'll still be out in front! (but we would NEVER do that! :lmao:)

Great job!

Hey Cousins... since we are all for posting our losses... just wanted to say that I am down 4 pounds (as of yesterday).... YAHHHHHOOOOOO. Only 36 more to go (I was up 10 from my original 30 left to go!)

WELCOME Johanna.

Jeanne - Let me know if you need assistance with the spreadsheet. I haven't been out there in a bit and wasn't sure how easy it was to add new people in the new format.

All you Bandana wanters.... I will be asking for orders in a bit. Life has been a little crazy so I want to get through my b-day before I think about this. I also have Minnie pics to post, just haven't gotten to getting them uploaded.

Jen: Thanks for the offer, but if I remember correctly, nobody is supposed to mess with the spreadsheet anymore. I just sent a PM to Dave because I forgot who we are supposed to contact to get a new member added. I will be gone all weekend but should be back Monday morning to post the miles. They switched the format a little bit and as a result, the dates are all screwed up . Because of this, our April totals were a little bit lower than they should have been, but our May totals will have an extra week. WooHoo! It's confusing but I have it all under control! :thumbsup2 i want to make it as easy as possible for the team members so they will continue to post. It seems we are slowly losing cousins. First vscohen and now Littlemissmickey seems to have disappeared.

Jeanne: The Greek is a metro Detroiter?? And you get to score Detroit Coney Island fare? Oh, cool! I'd ask more details about what he owns/where he lives, but don't want to intrude on his personal information. I've eaten at a lot of Coney Islands in Detroit, so I'm doing my best not to guess! ;)

I will say that the metro area is filled with great neighborhoods with distinct personalities, lots of good food, and places to see. I love Greektown, although one of my favorite restaurants in that area--if it's still there--is the Blue Nile (Ethiopian). If you're in Royal Oak, try Ray's ice cream, a family institution, and not too far from the Detroit Zoo. The zoo has a cool polar bear exhibit (tilework done by a high school acquaintance of DOOD) and butterfly house. Of course, the Greek will take you all over HIS Detroit, as is proper, and sample his food. So maybe I need to visit Detroit myself. You'll have to give us an update on his restaurants and whether his passes the "sibling inspection."

Johanna: Thanks for the bio. I finished C25K earlier this year, although I'm doing my 1/2 this weekend in intervals; I'll be revisiting the program afterwards if I can't jump back to the 5K distance in recovery. I'm also a MfM fan, and I'm almost positive you'll love Bingham's book. And of course you love Lilo and Stitch--cause we're the coolest! (And I think Dave's got a crystal ball in his virtual office.)

Johanna's post reminds me--have any of us here ever used Anthony Travel? I'm not sure how it works myself?

Christa: I've been doing the mammo's since 30. Dense breasts I have, like the rest of me I guess! :rotfl2: Holy cow, girl! I knew your metric ride was coming up, but didn't realize it was this soon! You ARE the Drafting Queen, you rose OVER the challenge, and your friend Mike rocks. I'm so happy for you. I think I'll take Jeanne's "advice" and slack off this week. Thanks! (It has nothing to do with taper, nothing I tell you.)

Jen: :woohoo: on being down 4 pounds! That's terrific news! I think that campground running was a very good thing. No worries on the bandanas--you've got tons on your plate, figuratively, and if you need to prioritize I'd rather see the pictures. (Hint, hint.)

Where oh where have all the cousins gone? I'm missing you!! :yay:

As for me: Some nice easy XT today, with weights and lots of stretching. The Cleveland 1/2 is turning out to be quite the family affair, with second cousins joining the ranks (but not the Ohana kind). At this point, I just want it to be done with--not the best attitude for the race, but what can I say? :confused3 Lots of family members, a 7 a.m. start, and a busy weekend. Then we come home and start to pack, as we'll be moving June 1st. That's right, we got a place, finally. Or should I say we finally stopped looking and took a place. It'll be small (er, cozy) and cheap, which will serve our purposes. I'll do the bulk of the moving this June, as DOOD will be in D.C. for the month, so it's nothing I'm particularly excited about. Our new apt. will be closer to Squirrel Hill, though, which I am excited about and its slightly institutional, run-down nature means we'll have plenty of incentive to start some serious house hunting in the near future.

Debra: just sent you a PM with "details" :thumbsup2 I've been to the Detroit zoo during a private VIP event. I didn't get to see the butterflies, but we did get a special tour of the new giraffe exhibit. We also saw the polar bears (way cool!) and the kangeroo area where they roam free. We did a few other attractions and spent the rest of the evening drinking champagne and martinis. (but of course!)

Aloha, Cousins!

Ok, so I am going to get some miles for you this week, I promise. I was on the stationary bike yesterday before work, and had a 2-mile walk to the Subway after work. This evening I'm walking with another mommy during gymnastics, so that should add another 3-4. We'll see how fast she walks.

Right now I'm feeling the late afternoon slump. I just want to go to bed, but since I set up this walking idea, I guess I have to show up and do it! :lmao:

Debra -- Any major event with my ILs can be fraught with peril, so I hope this turns out well for you. My ILs took the gold in dysfunctional, and they show no signs of giving up the title :scared1:

Jeanne -- What are you going to do for the rest of the year? You rolled all your events into one day! What a great way to celebrate everything, I'm so glad you will have fantastic memories of this wonderful Spring. :goodvibes

Corinna -- It sounds like you and ds had such a special time. I took my ds9 at the time to the Pirate and Princess Party and left dh at POFQ, and we had a blast. It really was great to just spend one-on-one time, and I'm sure that was magnified because you were doing this important race together!

Jen -- Will there be anything left of you in January? Are you turning all lean and lithe on us?! Congratulations on 4 lbs., that is awesome! :thumbsup2
Christa -- So I have to ask -- have you always worked out at this elite level? Did you gradually increase your workouts? Has it always been a way of life with you or did something happen to make you want to achieve greatness ('cause you have!)?:worship:

Johanna -- Ah, yes, another New Englander! We need you to balance out all those southerners who have to go naked 'cause it's so hot! :welcome:
My dh is from Seacoast NH, and he has relatives in Kittery and Cape Elizabeth. I'm actually a midwesterner by birth, but I love it here! :lovestruc

Nancy -- So what are you reading this week? I just finished John Adams, and I started The Body in the Gallery. I have Poisoned Tarts and Truman waiting on deck. I also have some scrapbooking mysteries by Laura Childs. I love her tea shop mysteries, so I figured I'd give them a try. We had such yucky, rainy weather, I agree curling up with a good book is the best antidote. :coffee:

DS and I watch American Idol together, and right now I am thrilled it's almost over. It's ironic, because when they get down to the ones who can really sing, it's almost over....anyway, I tape the Wed. shows because they're on too late for him to stay up. So, we get up at 6 and watch them. That's when he gets up anyway, but it's a little early for me. I'm ready for it to be over so I can reclaim that time for a workout. Between the AI and DWTS results shows, I'm losing two mornings a week that I could be doing something. I guess I need to find a better way to manage my time. We all get 24 hours every day, but pitifully few of them seem to belong to me! :confused3

Go Team Ohana!
Maria

Welcome Johanna to Team Ohana. :welcome: I am also an RN.

Christa--Wow, you are the mileage Queen. :worship: So blaming the camera angle for looking heavier works for me. :rotfl2: There is another RC near me in Oct. Baltimore, MD chapter always does theirs in Oct, that would have been closer but since I will be in WDW. What a great person you were to have been with your friend through her treatments and doing the race together.

Jen---Good job on losing 4 pounds. I weighed myself this morning for my starting weight. That was ugly. But got me motivated to get to the gym and so far eating good today.

Jeanne-- Enjoy Nikki's graduation. You are having a super busy month.

Debra--- I did really like the Philly RC event. It was well organized and outside of the traffic to get in and out of the city was hassle free. DH wanted to know who we were going to meet while we were there. He is beginning to think every time we go away we are going to meet a WISHer and seemed disappointed we weren't meeting someone. If I do it again next year it would be great to have you and husband do it with us. Good luck with your move. Also glad you like the Alex Cross books. They are addictive.

I am working 3-11 today to teach at NICU competencies. So up early and did 5 miles on elipical at the gym, shampooed the carpet on the patio, and cleaned all the patio furniture before going to work. I was impressed how much I could get done before coming to work. That is much more than I do after work. Maybe I should do one 3-11 shift a month just to get accomplished at home.

Have a great evening everyone.

Nancy

Oh Maria, you silly goose. You saw me in January, I couldn't hardly melt away to nothing-ness!!! Thankfully I am tall and can hide my weight well!!! I am so stoked about the loss... I just hope I can keep 'er going. I tend to fizzle out after a couple of weeks. No make that... the potato chips and pizza attack me and force me to eat them so I don't waste food!!!

Oh dont be too impressed with the miles. All but 6 was on the bike. Yes I only ran 6 miles last week. Supposed to be more, but I got a cold and slacked off to be better for the metric century....My real century is in Sept.

Now Debra you are the mile Queen...I am the Evil Queen of running and the Drafting Queen of biking...I guess I am the Sinking queen of swimming.:rotfl:

Nancy - WOW! You did get alot of stuff done.:worship:

Johanna - I think it was you who was asking about being ready for a 1/2 by Oct. I totally think you will be great for that. :yay:

Oh those naked races...the # belt will work great for that...they also are good for tris;)

Gotta go to rehersal....later!

Thank you all for the warm welcomes! I think I will enjoy being here! And please, if anyone has used Anthony Travel, I would love to know how it works!

Maria: It makes me wonder if I know your husbands relatives in Cape Elizabeth. Its the town right next to me, and its so small, everyone knows everyone. My inlaws live there, too!

Johanna: I have used both Anthony Travel and Marathon Tours and Travel. Both are pretty much the same and they give you a great rate on the hotels. In fact even though I have already registered for all our marathon events, I intend to use MT&T again because Disney cannot match their rate. The only downside is that you need to put up a deposit up front and any changes or cancellations will cause you to incur a penalty. Other than that, they are great!

Maria: You are so well read!! Its seems the only time I get to read for leisure these days is right before bed or on my XT days. And so I go straight for fluff, which is why the Alex Cross books are so useful! Easy, entertaining reading. I hear John Adams is a great book! I hope that once you reclaim your mornings you also sneak in a little extra "you" time; I know you love your family, but you deserve some priority time (with or without the WOs).

Nancy: I know DOOD and I will seriously consider RftC in Philly, because we like the event, it's at the end of the semester, and we know we like Philly; those are the pros. Meeting you would be the real carrot for me! And DOOD is getting to realize the carrot that is the WISHer meet for himself. I think he's realized he'll get to do his 50 marathons/50 states so long as he lets me choose the events that have meets. I'm definitely not promising to run them all, though. :rotfl2: P.S. I'm really impressed with how much you packed in before teaching NICU competencies. I'd probably just slack off.

Jen: I know you can get 'r done! You've got the motivation and the rocking new haircut!!

Christa: Yeah, you're slacking. Hah! And my head is spinning, maybe even faster than your wheels, about how many races you do--the metric century, your "real" century...:faint: Good thing you have all those shows and dancing to slow you down! :rotfl2: How's your mom doing, speaking of shows? (Yep, the two are connected intimately in my mind.)

Jeanne: First, thanks for the PM with all the details. You know how excited *I* am--I'm unbearable. And as long as we're on your family, how about any film-project updates? Second, thanks for the info on Anthony Travel and MT&T; I might try one of them these days, if I can convince DOOD that staying onsite is where we want to be for the marathon.

Yeah, yeah, I know. But he's not that into onsite--I'm going to have to twist his arm and tell him everyone "we" know will be at xxxxx or yyyyyy resort. (Obviously we haven't booked yet.) So of course I'll be polling all of you about your plans.

As for me: Not much in my world. Trying to rest up for Cleveland, doing a bit of packing, dreaming about Disney....:cloud9:

Debra:Thanks for asking about my older son. He sent me 2 new videos last week. They weren't particularly good, but they will help pay his rent. I tried to send you the link, but it's inactive right now. (Probably because they were still works in progress) He has a new video that he will be DP'ing coming up next month and he is very excited about that one because it has a significant budget and he says the song is really good. I'll keep you posted. He also just finished some Atari commercials for a Godzilla Wii game, but I haven't seen those yet either. This is an older one from just before Christmas, but there is a whole series of new ones that I don't have yet: http://youtube.com/watch?v=FO0BeuOKM3E

Johanna: Whenever you are ready you can post your minutes and miles on the "Ohana: Post your miles here thread." Don't worry about the different dates on the spreadsheet......I've got it all under control. Basically, we post on a weekly basis, Saturday thru Friday although some people have tweaked that to coincide with their Garmin totals. Anything that can be measured in distance counts for BOTH miles and minutes. Everything else is minutes only. If you do something that is an organized competitive event, you can double the distance, but not the time. I think that's it in a nutshell. If you have any questions, I will be out of town, but my fearless co-captain Jen can certainly answer them. Again, welcome to Ohana! I am going to email the guy in charge of the spreadsheet and have you added.

I won't be here tomorrow so I have to post this now...........

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JEN!!!! You are the best!

 :cake: :bday: :cake:

Ahhhhh, Thanks cousins!! Love you all!!!!!!

Dh bought me flowers this morning and a Scooby Do card from the girls (they loved that!). And I got my special coffee this morning instead of "work" coffee. I think I may even be treated for lunch... and then we are going out with the girls for dinner. OHHHHHHH.... there goes my 4 pounds!!!

BUT, we did do a family bike ride last night. I won't tell you that it was to the ice cream shop for a cone (oooops, I did tell you). But then we rode back home to burn it off!!!
