I'm back Ohana, after having had a fabulous time with DOOD, my friends, and of course Mickey! And now I expect to be treated like the elder cousin I have just become! Ignore my behavior--just go b the age.

Seriously, thanks for all the birthday wishes. You're all the best.
Jen: I just love the name Butt Kicker! Did you have a christening ceremony? Or did the name just kind of slip out during a run? I have high hopes for you & sunshine (maybe you can skip the springtime rainy season).
Richard (and Maria): I finished both
Xenocide and
Children of the Mind over the weekend, which I didn't enjoy quite a much as the others; part of the reason is that I felt the mythology & history has grown so large that Card needed to spend a lot of time providing background & summary. IMO, they're not quite stand-alone books but are still trying to be. That said, I'm on to
Shadow of the Hegemon, so I'm still finding Card's work engaging enough.
Richard: I'm sorry to hear about the Hog's Hunt 25K because of the heel pain. But I'm also very proud of you that you finished under those conditions and without (fingers crossed) real injury. And I guess the challenge does allow us to put a positive spin on bad training & race days!
Julie: Yes, I rode ToT and told DOOD, "We need to ride it again! Once for me, and then for my WISHmate." (He was confused.) My favorite thing is to put a penny on my knee & have it float off. Unfortunately, my legs were wet from the rain & so it stuck. C'est la vie! I hope I can convince you to give it a try in January--which seems so long away but is really going to come up quickly! And congratulations on your longest LR yet & for such a good time. And the weather sounds just about perfect for me.
Corrina: Yay! You're back in the saddle! (Or the turnip truck---I just thought you'd prefer the more comfortable ride.) I love the idea that you just keep running and running and running without keeping track of the distance. A true athlete, you are. And

for your dance (should I say race) card being so full. I need to get on the ball with that. I think it would be great if you and
Ashley could do a race together!
Christa: I do hope your DDs' spring break is fun without being overtaxing for you. And that your hip and knee heel--one for each side, huh? No fun, no fun at all. I do hope that you and DSis decide to run the 1/2, more for her experience after all the training. But will you be able to do so without pain and (shudder) risking injury?
Jeanne: I know I posted over in the Lean Meaner thread, but big fat raspberries on the Raleigh Rocks Half-marathon. If you have the time, a long letter of complaint is called for. I know Raleigh just got crossed off my list. The green bananas were the last straw (or maybe the ungloved worker).
As for me: Well, I had a great time at WDW! I strongly suggest that everyone go there for their birthday at least once! I wore my birthday button every day, received tons of well wishes and many sweet souvenirs (food and otherwise), and consider my 40th b-day among my favorites. DOOD surprised me in many ways over the weekend. He got us a room at the Poly (where we received an upgrade because of my birthday); I've wanted to stay there for a long time, and so he kept calling back until a room was available. He made ADRs at places that were sentimental favorites because of our relationship. He took over the planning to meet up with my college friends.
And his gifts were Disney-themed! I thought the gift was the trip, with staying on-World (DOOD isn't that into Disney resorts) at a place I wanted to stay. But it wasn't. DOOD went ahead & upgraded our 4-day hoppers to APs, committing to ToT (as far as we can plan ahead, anyway). But he also gave me an old MM t-shirt & covered it with all the pins we'd collected over our trips together; we'll put it in a shadowbox with my birthday souvies. And then, when I came home, DOOD gave me one last present: two original production drawings from Trader Mickey, a 1932 cartoon. WOW! I don't deserve them, or him, but am I lucky or what???
And I'll need to post pictures, but I had a blast at the Ohana character breakfast--I thought of all of you then, and when I was working out. On my first full day, my iPod played "Burning Love" when I set out for a run. Sounds too good to be true, but it really happened. It was inspirational, even if I turned off the music after that song because I didn't need it.
The only downside to the trip is that it rained pretty much all weekend, so only one run outdoors. Plus, I ended up with a blister when my touring shoes got soaked. There were some upsides even to the weather, though. I managed to work out a little more during the rainy afternoons than I had planned, so yeah for the Team. (And by little, I mean little, as my weight gain told me.) Because of the rain, we felt no guilt about enjoying leisurely meals & therefore had some great conversations & a relaxing dinner with my friends. And, finally, being indoors during the afternoon at the Poly made for some very, um, romantic moments!
