Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Thanks for all the warm fuzzies, guys :goodvibes Team Ohana is the coolest!

Just wanted to pop in and say happy V-Day!

Debra: Did nothing crazy (or hardcore) for my birthday. I didn't even want to celebrate at all until my friends started saying they'd come up with something. I didn't want to end up doing something that I might not like, so I told everyone we were going out to this bar we go to on occasion. I made up invites declaring it a "Funeral for my 20s" complete with the number 20 inside a casket. I did cheer it up a bit by including a picture of David Beckham (it was the picture from his European Armani underwear ad..... :woohoo:) and declaring that if anyone *really* wanted to bring me something they should bring me either David Beckham or David Wright (the best 3rd baseman in NY!). No one brought me a David, but I did get some fun presents.

Maria: That's crazy stuff about the after school care, but at least there was an adult present. I'm not sure if the ruling on how they can't go help teachers anymore will solve future problems though. I mean, what if one kid gets teased or something and runs off to the bathroom and stays there and cries for the afternoon (extreme, but entirely possible given kids). In that case whoever the child was *could* end up alone inside the school. I think the aforementioned sign in/out sheet would work wonders!

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone! <3 :grouphug:

Good Afternoon, Team!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Ok, I'm back to normal! Last night I did 8 miles on the bike and my weights, so I'm all caught up until today. It's back on the TM for an hour tonight.

Unfortunately, I just got two big projects at work, which is really going to cut into my DIS time...Don't they know I have priorities?!;) Actually, I foolishly found one of them myself.

Shell -- that sounds like a fun birthday to me. I spent my 30th birthday taking my 5 month old for shots, and wondering when that pregnancy weight was going to magically evaporate. Still waiting...:lmao:

Mel -- I think you should get special "shirt points", 'cause I know you work your patootie off!:yay:

Jeanne -- I think you're going to have to decide which race to do soon, I understand the Half is 75% full:scared1: I can't believe how quickly the races are filling this year. Good luck with the taxes!

Nancy -- I am so psyched to get back outside! Someday, our good weather will come...

Christa -- My little guy is a new 10, so he knows his phone number, etc. -- which actually didn't help, because I knew he hadn't called...anyway, I'm back to just being Mommy again, out of scared Momma Bear mode. I'm much more pleasant this way:rolleyes1

Debra -- I'm just going to suggest a few sci-fi classics -- anything by Orson Scott Card, but particularly the Ender series, which begins with Ender's Game:lovestruc ; forget the movies, Tolkien is much better with your imagination making the characters -- start with The Hobbit; and I love the classic Dune books by Frank Herbert. I also like the more recent ones by his son, with the exception of the last one...anyway, the first book is Dune. Please don't judge it by the horrid movie. It didn't begin to do justice to the book.

Robert -- I hope you and Linda are able to have a very nice, stress free Valentine's Day celebration. You guys have so much going on, you deserve a minute to just appreciate each other!

Corinna -- Warrior princess is indeed a high compliment, just go with it! I agree, QL was just a fun show.:cloud9: I also miss "V", anybody remember that? Or the show with the Taelons? Earth:Final Conflict. I liked Andromeda in the beginning, but then it just ceased to make sense.

Vanessa -- I admit it, I too am addicted to the DIS!:surfweb:

Jen -- I have a good friend who is the VP for Operations for Causeforce, which does 3-day walks in Canada and the UK (even though they're based in LA). Anyway, the well-run walks (and most are), really are a life-changing experience. I say go for it if you can!:woohoo:

Ok, everybody have a great day, and eat some candy for me! Regretting giving it up for Lent right about now!

Maria

Hey everyone... PURE CHAOS here. I won't tell you about it tho because no one would believe all this stuff could happen to one person. Oh seriously, I could make MILLIONS on a book of my life that last 2 years!!!!

I feel like I took yesterday off from working out because I did it in the wee early hours of the morning. Feels great! Now today I am taking off, except I may try to squeeze in some ball work. I figure I can take of V-Day!!!

My 4 year old got into some serious pre-school trouble for goofing off on the bus and then not listening to the teachers. Oh it was really bad and we spent last night dealing with it. Today she really doesn't want to miss out on the V-Day festivities, so I think she will be good! My DD7 went out with Dad last night and got gifts for me. What a sweatheart, even if it was chocolate. She has the heart of gold and I just adore her for it. She even got a gift for DD4 to give to me so she didn't feel left out (she was grounded last night).

Maria - That is horrible about the school. I lost DD4 at the kids race at WDW this year. For 5 minutes she was lost if a unorganized mass of rude parents. I was in total tears until DH found her wandering by the bleachers.

Christa - I am so glad you are on our team also. Two summers ago I remember some words of wisdom you gave me before a 5K and it helped me get through.

Robert - Great to hear you are getting on track with training. Lots of things happening with you, so take care of yourself!!! (And Linda!)

Gotta run... work is nuts because of the Chaos comment listed above!

Ahhhhh, it's good to come home to family after a semi-productive day.

First, Happy Valentine's Day! I thought I'd share a little holiday chocolate with you, albeit the safe virtual chocolate that won't break Maria's Lent commitment. First, what's Valentine's Day without a heart? But, really, I owe my now-healthier lungs to my WISH team. So I also give you both:

Enjoy!! :thumbsup2

Christa: You know telling us that you can't tell something just makes me want to know alllllll about it. I hope today went better, though! I was a huge MASH fan, too.

Nancy: So PA weather's like this every year? Oooh, I think the novelty's going to wear off for me real quick. Yea! for officially registering. We still need to do that.

Jeanne: Thanks for the compliment on my wordines. That's what happens when you're underemployed and a writer--if you're not careful you spend too much time in your head, thinking thoughts other than what's productive. And I definitely don't want to do that! Besides, I'd rather talk to you than do taxes. UGH! So the Poly was worth it for the marathon? I'd love to stay there, but DH actually is lukewarm (or worse) on Disney property--don't ask me why, 'cuz I think it's an unnatural reaction.

Shell: Your b-day sounds fun, even without the Davids. I'm a Beckham girl myself, as I love football. Spectator, not player, as I'm clumsy.

Maria: Wow--what a turnaround! You rock with the bike miles & the weights. You should know that, because of you, I ponied up and increased some of my weights to 8lbs. I tend to be really lazy with the free weights. You inspired me and my sore arms. I read Dune, dragged my parents to the movie, and they've NEVER forgiven me. Did you see it in the theaters? They gave patrons handouts with a plot summary and a glossary! I haven't read Card yet, though I know I should. Ender's Game will be next on my list (I'm reading an Ian Rankin for fun right now; love the Tartan Noir.)

Jen: Your whole family sounds great; there's no way I would have been that thoughtful of a grounded sibling, even now! I'd just taunt and heckle. I do hope the chaos subsides and you can enjoy the holiday, even without chocolate.

As for me: Another strength/flexibility training day for me. I began to incorporate a couple of those Chi Running exercises into my program (substituting them for those awful lunges that were killing my knees). I'll be diggety-dog-danged (don't ask me where I come up with these thiings), I think the man is onto something. It's very familiar to me from yoga, which I'm trying to pick up again. So I'm thinking I'll try to practice Chi Walking for my pedestrian outings (when there's no ice) and see what happens.

Speaking of pedestrian outings & ice; I walked to Squirrel Hill today to pick up some research I ordered. Almost slipped in a couple of places, but the outing turned out fine. I managed at 16:43 pace for 4 miles! That means I get to count it for our little challenge. I wasn't sure I'd be able to make my 15-18mm window with the ice, so I did a little jog on the dry spots. I also saw two very brave & confident runners, except they were shuffling. Those Pennsylvanians are a hardy lot, I tell ya.

Hey! Did anyone else know we have a teleport smilie on the DIS? :teleport:

Happy VD
....ha ha thats funny!

Today was DD10's Bday so that was wonderful.

Today at work was sad. But I am doing a LR tomorrow so all will be fine.

Maria & Debra - yes my birthday actually was much more fun than I thought it would be. I guess I sort of forgot to mention that part. The night went by so fast! Usually when our nights start out at 6pm post-work, everyone's ready to go home by 10! We were out until 2am and probably could've lasted until close (4am) but I had to get the 2nd part of my root canal done the next (same!) morning at 9:30am (that was NOT fun) and wanted to get at least some sleep first!

Hi Team and happy Valentine's Day (and for those of you in the know, not the Valentine in the Ender Series!!):goodvibes

It had been a really bad week here and I have not kept up with the Team on the boards, but I am keeping up with my running and swimming--which is more important.

Good day, all!

Hey Team!!!! Don't forget to post your miles and hours on the other thread!!!

Not much to post today. Tomorrow we are suprising the girls with HS Musical on Ice. DD7 will FLIP OUT!!!! She is obcessed with HS Musical and in love with Troy Bolton! So cute, but it sure does start early now a days!

Debra - Oh I was really enjoying the thoughtfulness of my DD7, most days she hates her sister. So it was nice to have her care about her for once. Actually, I think she just loved watching her sister be in trouble!!!

Just dropping a quick couple of lines before leaving from work.

Did 90 minutes at the gym last night. Pump class and 30 minutes on recumbent bike. Today is usually a rest day so should have nothing else to report. When I get home will add up my miles and hours and post.

Debra---Didn't anyone warn you about PA weather before you moved here? When DS was going to school at there is was always cloudy and raining. Someone told us it is the 2nd city after Seattle to have the most rainy days. Not sure if that is true but it always seemed that way to us. DS was glad to move back to eastern PA. Have you had the sandwich with the fries on them yet? They even do fries on salads.

Hope everyone had a good week training. Enjoy the weekend.

Nancy

Christa: V-Day. That made me snicker. Happy belated birthday to your daughter! Does she like having her birthday on the 14th? Oh, I hope your LR went well and that work is making you happy if possible, or at least less sad. :)

Shell: Wow, that sounds like quite a series of events for your b-day. At least it will always be memorable, right?

Richard: Yea! Another mention, and I assume vote, for me reading the Ender series! We're glad to see you here and doubly glad you're keeping up with your workouts. Of course they're more important!

Jen: Thanks for the reminder to post! I just know your DDs will love HSM on Ice. I have to admit, I found HSM's songs catchy when I first saw the show at DL and watched the movie based on the songs. I can see why the young girls swoon over Troy.

Nancy: Excellent work at the gym! As for PA, well, we kind of were aware that winter in Pgh was grayer than we were used to. But we relocated from Fargo, and we thought anything had to be an improvement. Oh, and it is! :goodvibes The weather and the topography just takes some getting used to. I'd envisioned a warmer winter where I'd be outside running, and got a warmer, soggier one. I haven't embraced running in the rain yet, and hills still wind me. (Fargo does have flat land, which was a plus.) And I have to say that I've been too leery of the sandwich with fries in it combo to try one, let alone the salad-fries layering. I just think, "Ewww." I'm probably wrong, very wrong.

I'm just going to post what I said over on the weekly thread, so I get move on to posting my miles/minutes:

As for me: I made the oh-so-adult and oh-so-depressing decision not to attempt to run today. Runner's knee, I think. I've been experiencing lots of little twinges with my right knee over the past week, and have been increasingly achy and cranky about it. Finally, DH asked me how many nights this week I've put an ice pack on the knee. I thought about it, then admitted: "Every night." So I took another day off running, though I did no impact XT, and will be adjusting my training schedule. I'm trying to be reasonable, to take care of myself before my knee becomes a real problem, and to follow the advice of my inner Penguin, but I'm a little upset. I'm going to try again tomorrow and hope I just needed an extra day & a lighter schedule.

Speaking of lighter, here's a lighter note to end on. DH and I were talking about my posts here. He has suggested I refer to him as DOOD (pronounced Dude) rather than DH. He says it stands for "Dear One of Debra." (The acronym makes a lot more sense if you read a Pgh restaurant critic named Munch, but I digress.) I warned him that y'all will just start referring to him as DOODie, but he seems to think you're more mature than I am. So DOOD it is.

;) Am I the lamest...at home posting on Friday night...Watching Holes with my DDs, DD10s BFF, and DH......Or should I call him DOOC (Dear One Of Christa)...That is for you Debra!:goodvibes

Debra - So sorry about your Knee! I hope it heals quickly.

Jen - Hope you have a great time at HS Musical on Ice....My DDs LOVE it too! DD10 got to see Hannah Montana 3D and she was crazy excited!:upsidedow

Richard - We all love you and understand the WO is more important!;) WTG on keeping up!

Do I should call Erica, Dear One Of Panda, DOOP. Yeah baby, that will go over big.

You guys, gonna be the lead team again? You know we are just laying back ready to pounce when you least expect it. (Do Pandas pounce??)

Pouncing Panda:hippie:

Now Panda....don't be trying to talk smack to us....we are not afraid of the pouncing panda...:goodvibes Going to run with Bree today....Later

Happy Weekend everyone. Did 2 hrs at the gym today, AB class, 5 miles TM and then some miles on the bike to round out the 2 hrs. I started reading James Patterson's new book "7th Heaven" so that made the time on the TM go much faster.

Debra and Christa-- You to post some really serious miles and hours in a week. :worship:

Jim-- Good luck in your race ( and thanks for supporting your support of Breast Cancer Awarness and Research) and congratulations to your son on joining the Air Force. Thanks to him for serving our country. Plus you get to see the Daytona 500.

Jen-- I'm sure your family had a great time at HSM on ice. Better seeing something on ice in an indoor arena then driving on it outside.

I think tomorrow it is to get a little warmer so maybe I can get in an outside walk. Debra I can see why you think PA weather is better since you came from Fargo, there winter must be 6 months long.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Nancy

Christa: Thank you for the good thoughts for the knee and the DOOC reference. It made me giggle. In our household, a good night always involves watching films. DOOD and I watched The Good German last night; I think we would have enjoyed Holes more.

WWDave: I don't know if pandas pounce, but I know of one that stalks! :rotfl2: I also think DOOP has a certain ring to it! I hope you're feeling better--have the stretching exercises been working out for you? :flower3:

Jeanne: :rotfl: I snorted when I read your response. You're quick!

Nancy: Oooh, I like Patterson. That's some serious hours & variety yourself! And I bet you're out enjoying the weather right now, because we have got sun! :cloud9: Fargo was rough.

As for me: Well, I went to the gym today to try to run as it felt better this morning. It was nice enough to be outside, but I wanted to baby my knee on a nice, consistent surface. I was slow and backed off on the incline, but I finished my C25K schedule: 20 minutes straight running. I haven't done that since I started a RW training for last year's Goofy. The knee feels okay, a little tender, but nothing like yesterday or earlier this week. I finished with no-impact XT.

Tomorrow, DOOD and I are taking another yoga class, as we're still looking for the right one. (I'm always surprised as how long it takes to find the class that works for me--picky, picky, picky.) Wish me luck on it, because if it works my new training schedule will be simple. My miles might decrease significantly, but my knee will heal & I'll be happier. And geez, it's just all about me, isn't it?

Cool...now we have DOODie and DOOCie :rotfl: DH likes his too...DOOM :scared1:

Don't forget about Kung Fu Panda!

Nancy...I haven't read much Patterson, but sounds interesting! I read a lot of Janet Evanovich and Harry Potter on the TM. I have to read light stuff on the TM...nothing that requires deep thought so I can't get through any of my journal stack on the TM.

Christa...It's amazing what you do...I can't imagine how you get through your job every day. I take some of my patients home with me at night and I only do thyroid.

Jen...How was HSM on Ice?

Maria...I bet you have a DOOM at home too ;)

Debra...when do we get to meet DOOD? Do you do freelance stuff? The editor of HerSports magazine is looking for human interest stories to incorporate into the book she's writing. Take care of your knee!

I'm off...see ya on the weekly thread!

Hi Everyone!

So, once we recovered from the trauma of ds not being where he was expected to be, the flu hit our household with a veangance. We're in the thick of it now, I have high hopes for next week, but one never knows.

I also took on two new big projects at work, so forgive me if my posting is less regular. It's actually the start of my busy season, but I should get some time back to myself when summer hits.

Mel -- I do indeed have a DOOM. He's also rather sarcastic and not a Disney fan, so it's fitting:lmao:

Debra -- Be gentle with that knee!

Nancy -- Is your ice melting yet? Ours is almost gone!:dance3: Of course, we had sleet this afternoon...

Dave -- I know you are biding your time, waiting for us to get complacent...but that won't happen we are ever vigilant, looking for the evil Gantu-like Hakuna Matata!pirate:

Christa -- I would say you wouldn't believe the junk I have to watch with ds, but I bet you would! Tweens have their own shows, and it really helps to be a tween to enjoy them. I remember when I had to watch what my parents wanted. Apparently that is no longer an option:sad2:

Jen -- It is amazing how young they start, isn't it? My ds is a new 10, and he likes to refer to the various teen girl chippies as "hot". I correct him every time I hear it, but I think that's just how they talk. :rolleyes1

Shell -- So glad to hear you did enjoy your birthday -- I was a little worried so I tried to cheer you up. See, it wasn't so bad, and it could have been much less fun! You did great celebrating, and you will have even more fun next year!:yay:

Jeanne -- Sorry again for being so late with our time. Hope you're having a great wekend!:woohoo:

Robert -- Hope you're feeling better every day!:goodvibes

Ok, gotta check a few more threads and get ready for tomorrow. I'm working since dh gets the day off. DS is off all week, and his normal camp is not in session. We'll be doing the "platoon" method with him, so my posting may not be what we hope. I'm just hoping to be coherent on the days I have to work:scared1:

Maria:sick:

Wow, Family.....as of this very moment we're in the lead!

Great job, everyone! I just discovered that if you look on the bottom of the spreadsheet where all the teams are listed and if you go past Team #8 you can see a summary of all the teams under 2008 Totals. Of course I didn't check to see if all the other teams had posted, but right now we are kicking major butt and I like it!

Onward to a new week!
