Teachers!!! What do you do in the summer for extra Cash???

Hi -

My friend is a teacher, and during the summer he works at our local staduim selling beer/soda/peanuts during the baseball games for the PHillies - he makes on average about $250/game. The nice thing is that in the spring, he can go if he wants but you dont have to show up at all - so he can make it fit into his schedule. He loves baseball, so he gets to watch all the games, do some exercise climbing up and down all the steps and lifting the big bin of beer or whatever over his head!!! He just loves it - calls it an easy money job!!!:rotfl:

Bow Chica Bow Bow!!!! -that's what I do for Xtra cash!:rotfl2:

Here in NJ-

DW is teaching summer school for the first time, should help out with summer expenses. I am going back for the 2nd year to work part time at a local casino, last year as a slot attendent, this year as a casino cashier. I prefer not to work with kids over the summer. Cleansing of the pallete, I guess. And I feel like a lump hanging around for the entire summer, so I find something to do each year to keep busy and make a liitle summer fun money.

All of these things are on top of the money that we sock away all year long to pay those pesky, regular bills.

Maybe you could do homebound tutoring. In my district they pay around $30/hr. to tutor kids that either can't go to school for medical reasons or who have been expelled (we meet in a public library).

I always got 13 checks per year in LA. Now that we have moved to NC I think I will get 10 checks, but I am not sure. I may be able to choose the 12 month option (which I will).

If I don't get paid 12thly I will budget out and save the extra so that I don't have to work in the summer. My kids won't have anywhere to go without me paying so it won't work for me to work in the summer.

I'm a teacher in North Carolina and you get the 10 months of pay checks with May 31 being the last of the school year. If you are year round, the school system will divide it into all year pay, otherwise you have to go through State Employees Credit Union and do their summer cash savings program.

What I do for summer money is wait tables on the weekends.

I have my checks spread out all year, and not to sound lazy, but I chill in the summer. Hang out with the kids, drink cold beer, grow tomatoes and peppers in my little back yard garden, take weekend trips for no reason... the list goes on and on.

I don't work in the summer...I just relax & go to the pool everyday with my kids.

If I did need extra cash, the only job I would consider doing over the summer is tutoring. I could easily get $40.00/hour doing that.

He does construction work for a friend w/ a construction company...as needed.

I do drug studies. (MDS Harris) Actually I do these during the year, too. I got $1200 for just staying over a weekend. Took a drug that is already on the market, they just were trying a new tablet type. Just read, watched movies, surfed the net, played games, visited, slept. And they feed us. Not bad!

Just curious...what is mass connections?

It is the employer for doing the in-store demonstration/free samples/coupons job. You can go to snagajob.com and register, then enter your zip code and a list of available jobs in your area pops up. Look for Mass Connections/Event Personnel. From there you apply.

I just did it. I watched a little video presentation, answered a few questions about it, and filled out a few pages of a job app. I had to print out something to get notorized and mailed or faxed in.

Then when all is done and you are hired, you go to their website and a list of available jobs will be posted. They add new jobs to the list every day. You book yourself any job you want. The jobs is basically handing out samples/coupons to store patrons at a Wal-Mart or a Target or a food store and being friendly. They send you the table and stuff you need, you go into the store you are working that day, see the manager, set up, and hand out free stuff. The job is usually on weekends and is about 5 hours of work for about $80.

It is one way to make a little extra cash while we are off for the summer. :teacher:

In June I will be doing a Math/Science workshop. We will have classes in the morning, go out to the Wilderness in the afternoon to do experiments. IT pays pretty good. I will also coteach an Upward Bound program for high school students.

July I will teach summer school in the mornings.

On Saturdays, year round, I will work for an oil company doing bookwork.

During the school year I teach day school, night school, tutor and the Saturday job.

BTW, I am a single mom addicted to Disney.

DH and I are both teachers. We taught summer school years ago, but now we just enjoy the time off with the kids. We get paid year-round. A teaching friend of mine works for Sylvan Learning Center over the summer and makes pretty good money. You might want to give them a call. They are nation-wide.

Wow! When do you see your kids?

My wife is a teacher. She keeps our 2 kids out of daycare during the summer. That saves us about $3,000.

We also have her salary spread out over the entire year instead of just 10 months.

My old high school coach used to manage the community pool and umpire baseball games at night. I know a lot of them do the summer camp thing too.
