Teachers On Vacation??

I was just wondering if there were anyother fellow teachers out there that go to Disney for vacation. My co workers and husband are making fun of me because were going to the "mecca for children" as he calls it on my week long vacation.

I thought this wasn't too out of the ordinary??
Is it that hard to deal with kids when you have none of your own. I am just loking it as, I don't have to watch the kids there and they are not my responsiblity....

Obviously your friends and husband either haven't been to The World or need to be smacked along side of the head. I've been an educator for 35 years (now retired) and my wife and I make at least an annual truip to WDW. First and foremost, you can act like a kid and nobody cares because everyone else is acting the same way. Secondly, it does my heart good to watch the eyes on small children widen to the size of silver dollars when they see Mickey or Pooh and to hear them laugh with glee during a ride or seeing another character.

Have a great time and don't worry about what your friends or husband thinks. Let the magic works its ways.

I am going on my 28th year of teaching and I journey to WDW at LEAST 4 times a year. We own APs and are DVC members.

Personally, I view WDW as my therapy.

They should visit my classroom. It's decorated in Disney from floor to ceiling and we vacation at Disney.

Another teacher here! I've actually considered whether I want to go to Disney so soon after school gets out (we leave a week after the last day of class) but I'm getting so excited that I've forgotten about summer vacation and am focusing on Disney! I teach children with autism and put so much of myself into the job that it's necessary for me to go on vacation somewhere at the beginning of summer break so that I can unwind and reconnect with my own 3 children. I think Disney is the perfect place for that! Then I have all summer to scrapbook my pics, write trip reports and relax with my kids before I gear back up for school. Can't imagine a better way to spend my days.

I've been teaching for 20 years. As pinnie said, Disney is my therapy. The magic just sweeps over you and all your troubles leave. For some reason the abundance of children just doesn't bother me when I'm at Disney.

I've been teaching 7 years and have 2 children and LOVE DISNEY!!! We would go with or without children- well, we turn into children ourselves when we're there! WDW is so magical and is such a break from the realities of the world!

DH and I are both teachers and are heading for our 1st trip with DD 2 1/2 in just over 3 weeks!

Another teacher logging in! I am heading down soon with my DH and kids: 2,6,8. It's our 3rd trip (but only second for the baby! )
We all can't wait! I use lots of Disney stuff in class. I teach HS Biology and on my first trip got a pic of the tick birds on the head of the rhino in IASW to show symbiosis. I have used lots more since.

I am a teacher too and I have never thought of Disney as being a drawback because of the kids. I don't particularly like to go to places close to my school that have a lot of kids, but I don't know the ones in Disney!!

Besides, when I go to Disney World, and I see the castle for the first time, I instantly turn into a 7 year old. I definitely don't act my age when I am dancing through the streets. My teenage students would think I was nuts if they saw me!!!

My DH and I are both teachers and love to take our vacations at WDW. As long as I am not in charge of the kids at WDW I don't mind going to a place filled with kids. I only have our one child to keep track of and don't mind the rest of the kids.

Another teacher here. I teach kindergarten and when any of my students go to the World I always ask them to bring in pictures and share their trip. We have gone during the summer. I love all the time off we teachers get but the only down side is I can't enjoy Disney durilng the off season like January or September. But whenever I can get there is a good time for me. We are going this summer and I can't wait! This is the first time I have gone two years in a row! Now that we have a daughter I hope to keep it an annual tradition

Well, this is my first year teaching, but this is my 2nd time going to Disney as a teacher. We went in January, and we're going in early June. Gonna drop my grades off in the office, and hit the road. I see it as a form of therapy, as well. It definately gives me something to work toward, and look forward to.

Another teacher here. I've been teaching for 20 years and been going to Disney since before I began teaching. I love it there and look forward to going every summer. This year it's June/July. YEAH!!!

My students know I love it and wish they could go with me. They even ask to watch my home videos (they get rewarded for good behavior because I am a special education teacher). They love talking about my trips, looking at my pictures and I've told them if I ever win the lottery, we will all go on a very long field trip to WDW.

I'm the one everyone comes to when they go and I've talked several co-teachers into going! No one ever makes fun of me or thinks it's strange that I go so often.

When things get really stressful at school, I tend to dream I'm at WDW. It's the way I relieve stress and I'm looking really forward to going again this year!

DH and I are both 3rd year teachers and we are taking our 3rd and 4th trip to WDW as teachers this spring and summer. We do not have any kids and the kids in the parks never bother us (it's usually parents we tend to be annoyed w/). The way some parents take care of their kids is crazy (now before you go yelling at me, I said SOME and I think you can all agree w/ me about that). So anyway, OP, it's not out of the ordinary to be going--have an awesome time!

My husband is a teacher and we love going to Disney. We went there for our honeymoon and had a great time. Like other posters have said you are not responsible for the kids so you can just relax and have fun. We can't wait til we go again. So just enjoy your trip and forget what those other people said. Obviously they just don't " get" Disney.

Here is another teacher to add to the list. We take a vacation from the "tundra" of the north and head south every year. This will be the first WDW experience with our 17 mos old daughter. Hopefully we won't be those "awful" parents that I too complained about "prechild" Disney days.

A trip to Disney is a stress reliever to me. As hectic and as busy as the days may be, nothing beats the magic!

This maks feel a little less crazy! Thanks guys!! I showed my DH the posts and he said were all nuts! He just hates crowds (he's a bouncer), but loves vacations. Should be an interesting Spring Break. He though it would be dead there when we go....he has so much to learn I guess. Good thing I have been researching....

We can't wait until June 15! Mr. OriginalRabbit is elementary school principal and is going insane waiting for his "therapy session" with Mickey and the gang! We were just there during
winter break and began making plans to return in June as we were leaving on the plane to our home. We have been making the mecca since 1982 when our kids were 3 and 5. We had our 9 month old grandson with us for two days during our December trip. We will be camping at Fort Wilderness for the first time in June. Our first trip was in a twenty year old Palamino pop-up camper with patched canvas pulled by an old Toyota pickup with camper shell for the kids. Stayed off-site in an orance grove. Ah! the memories we have made with Mickey! Can't wait to ACT like kids!
