So today I woke up, and the conditions were terrible outside. A layer of ice everywhere. Yet for some reason we had school, so I get up, get ready, and start walking to school. I'm about halfway there, and as I'm trying not to slip, it starts raining.

So fast forward a good 15 mintues or so, I'm sitting in my english class. There is only about 5 of us there, and we are talking about how terrible the conditions were. My english teacher looks at me and she says, "Mike I drive by you every morning, and today I so wanted to just pull over and give you a ride".

Well this kid sitting behind me gets mad and goes, "Well why didn't you? I mean it would have been nice of you to and all!"

She replies with "Can't. Liabilities."

Personally I agree with her. I mean, look at the circumstances. 23 year old teacher, who is VERY good looking if I do say so myself, giving a 15 year old boy a ride. I'm sorry, but with all the stories of students, errrm, enjoying their teacher's company a little more than average flying around today, more than one parent would get mad. Now as much as I would like for her to pull over and give me a ride, :rotfl2: , I understand that she just can't, because even though she would just be being nice, she would be putting her job at risk.

So yeah, what is your take on this whole subject?

It depends on the circumstances.

Last year I helped out in this program my French teacher was the head of (you go to a local elementary school and teach some of the students basic French). Anyways, I didn't have my license yet so I'd always have to call my sister to pick me up once it was over. One day, I didn't realize that my sister had to work, and I didn't arrange for a ride beforehand. So I was in the main office of the school, calling my dad and my grandma to see if either one of them could pick me up. My dad was still at work and my grandma wasn't home, so I was left without a ride. Normally I would have walked home but, the school's on the opposite side of town from where I live, so my teacher said he'd give me a ride if I needed one. I ended up accepting the ride and it was fine. He was giving Danielle and Colin a ride home as well, so it wasn't just me and him in the car.

I mean it was no big deal, if you knew my French teacher, you'd know that he's one of those teacher's that naturally cares for the well-being of his students and will help them out whenever they need it.

I don't personally agree with it. I mean teachers can range from about 23 or so and up. It'd be awkward if you were my age (14), and like a 40 year old teacher or even in 20's wanted to give you a ride. It's kind of creepy if you ask me. Teachers I think are just meant to be associated with in school. I'd never take a ride outside of school, and don't attend to. That's why they have buses. As nice as some of my teachers are to me and all, I'd rather walk, take the bus, or have my parents/friend drive me. That's just me, though. I don't really like it.

You remember that Pam Turner woman who really 'enjoyed the company" of one of her male students recently? well she TAUGHT in my town. (yes. we only get on the news for stuff like this. and that woman got us onto good morning america) :scared:

I am a teacher and recent graduate from a masters teaching program. The instuructors at my university drilled into our heads that you should never, ever be alone with a student or give students a ride. Unfortunately there are just too many "what if's" that could happen or be said that happened.

well, I go to a boarding school. So we actually live with our teachers.(yea I know not the same situation) So, to me its no big deal to have one of my teachers drive me. And we have had cases where the teachers enjoyed the company of the student a little too much. and one of the faculty got fired for it last year. But when I want to go downtown or to the mall, I dont think anything of being in a car with a teacher, its just an adult that I know, and basically live with. I mean, we even go to our teachers house's and hang out. So to me its not a big deal. but in public school I guess it is. But when I was in public school, I dont remember it being a really big deal. but idk
