Teachers - do you get a flu shot?

I've never gotten a flu shot before, but now that I'm student teaching, and around all those kiddos, I was wondering if I should.

Do you get a flu shot if you work around kids every day?

Got one yesterday at school. Never used to but it's easy to pick up "everything" when you are a teacher. Having the flu was terrible, so I now get the flu shot.

I am not a teacher but I work at school and yes I do get it. I also give it to my kids , I have given it to them for years now.

Not usually. I got one a few years ago, but I didn't qualify last year (or this year) because I'm not high risk.

You could be considered "high risk" since you work with kids. I would get one, the flu is AWFUL!!! Here is a tip for you, don't keep the classroom box of Kleenex at your desk, keep it at the opposite end of the room, then all the little kids will go over there to get the Kleenex and sneeze over there and not all over your desk.

No, I don't get one and I have been very lucky. I've not gotten the flu.

The last time I got one was the same winter I ended up throwing up so much one day that I had to go to the ER and get rehydrated. I thought about it last year but they ran out, and by the time they got more in I didn't care.

I usually do, but couldn't last year due to the shortage. Sign-ups were the other day and my name is on the list!

Yes I do and I had one last week. They said I was not eligible but I told them I work with a high risk population (ie sped) and they relented. I could have waited until OCT 24, but I have a student in my room who is Constantly blowing his nose and sneezing ALL over everyone and everything.

I'm debating whether to get it this year. Last year I got very sick after the shot but I think it might be a coincidence. SDF Girl, I was constantly sick my first year of teaching so the shot might be a good idea if you're just starting out.

I've been teaching 15 years. No, I don't get a flu shot & don't catch the flu. You'd think that I would have built up an intolerance to a lot of germs by now but somehow I get strep throat every year...one time I got in 3 times between Oct. & June.

I catch everything else the kiddos get, nice to knock one of them out. Now if only there were vaccinations for strep throat and pink eye, then I'd be doing well!!!
