Teacher watching inappropriate stuff on laptop

Today he was brought in for a "talk"
My daughter is in the class that he's been watching it in.

What do you think they are going to do to the teacher? Is this a fire type of offense? Is this a slap on the wrist? If your daughter was in his class how would you feel?

Personally I am angry that he is wasting time on such stuff during school hours. If he has so much free time perhaps they could find him so other projects to do. I also think he should not have access to his personal laptop during school hours. He also though was using a school computer as well.

What is wrong with people? Really who thinks hey I know how to kill some time while they are working on the lab I'll watch some porn.

I guess what happens depends a lot on his union, if any. If it were my daughter (or son for that matter) in his class while he obviously watched porn, I'd be apopletic!! If he doesn't get fired, I'd be asking a few questions of the principal.

A grade school teacher here several years ago was fired for using a school computer to watch gay porn.

I didn't care that he was gay and liked him a lot personally but felt that it was very inappropriate of him to be doing this on school time and especially where there was a chance his students might see it.

and as far as will he be fired, anyone ever see the expose done on 20/20 about the teachers who can't be fired because of the union, so they spend their days doing NOTHING, in a separate building still collecting full pay!!!!

My thoughts exactly, he is watching porn, what is he thinking with those kids in there. My kid would be out of there in a heart beat. I would be going before the board of education myself. I hate to even think about his thoughts. This really angers me, and I dont even have kids in school.

And the fact that he's apparently a freakin' idiot who doesn't realize that it's NOT OKAY to watch porn on the job in front of children and idiots shouldn't be teachers anyway. I mean, they are teachers. There has to be a baseline requirement of intelligence for that job - right?

So if they aren't going to fire him for the porn thing, he should probably just be fired for his lack of brain power.

If the teacher was using the schools network as opposed to a cellular card they should be able to. I can tell you every single site every single computer in my enterprise has gone to for the past 365 days. In a setting where you have to monitor not only employees but students I would expect at least that much.

As for whether or not it is a fireable offense I'm sure it would depend on the union contract but here and anywhere else I've worked it would be. If we can see that they were tricked into clicking on a link or something like that maybe not but assuming it was actual porn and not just a site like WWTDD yes, they would be fired.

Uh, if it was real porn, then yeah, he's going to be fired. Watching porn with minors around is a huge no-no, especially if you're a teacher.

If it was something that wasn't really porn, but just a little too revealing, that might be different, but I would be surprised if he wasn't canned even then. This is something that is not usually taken lightly.

I have never taught in a state that had a union so I am not sure what how the contract is worded. In the 2 states where I have taught, each contract had a moral turpitude clause. Also, we were required to sign a different form stating that if we were to use school property for anything other than school business, we could be fired.

So, where I have taught he would be fired or if administration is feeling kind, he would be given the option to resign.

My sons' school/ my work, all sites where you can buy something are blocked. You can get special permission to view sites but you have to go to the office, fill out a paper, have it approved, etc. This policy has been inconvenient for my coworkers as a site they use a lot (reproducibles, calendars, etc for free) is the site of a preschool magazine so the magazine is for sale on the site therefore causing it to be blocked. So I assume anything remotely porn related would also be blocked.

Some people do just watch it...but I don't think that's the norm.

And there is PLENTY of ways for porn companies to get around the filters...I was web searching something in HS and an interesting pic of a lady and horse

I read a thing a while ago detailing the rise in calls to cops because of cars driving around passengerless with the drivers watching porn on DVD players, visible to other cars on the road.

Apparently, yes, people do just... watch it like it's a show. Given the writing on some primetime television, it's hard to make the case that there's really that much of a distinction, quality-wise between porn and 'According to Jim' or 'Two and A Half Men,' but still.

As for the filters, didn't the OP say it was his personal laptop?
