One of us is a teacher, other is a teacher librarian and we own DVC.
I am curious to see when you normally travel due to the school schedule.
2021 is first year of owning DVC.

So I’m a sub, so I don’t have as permanent a schedule but I have friends and family friends who work in schools. Most either take the February or spring break and then break up the rest of the points for the long weekends during Food and Wine or Festival of the Arts. I do know some that do the summer, but for the most part they split them up if they have to.

We are retired teachers. When our boys were younger, our first trip was during the summer. In my mind, that was the only time we could go. (Thus why we have a June UY.) Then we started having Fall Breaks and started going then. I loved it so much better. Our boys are grown, and we have taken Thanksgiving and Christmas trips. I refuse to take summer trips now!

I’m not a teacher, but we wouldn’t take our DD out of school. We went primarily over Christmas/New Years and late in the summer after the Florida kids went back to school.

My wife is a teacher. I voted summer, as that is when most of our trips have been. Summer isn’t ideal (heat, crowds) but it’s really most effective for us. We used to do trips after Thanksgiving when she was on maternity leaves (what a great time to go) but with family commitments and the break being short that doesn’t really work. We’ve done a couple post-Christmas to New Years trips which is a nice diversion, but isn’t good for us as a regular thing. We used to do some Easter break trips, but again with family commitments and such (not to mention huge Easter crowds) that doesn’t work for us as a regular thing either.

It always shocked me how crazy Easter crowds are. I mean I know it’s spring break-but sometimes they can be more chaotic than the end of the year!

Our absolute worst trip ever crowd-wise was at Easter. After that one we never did that again….and we’ve willingly done NYE crowds twice!

Ding dang! I was there one spring break for a band trip but I forget if spring break fell weird that year (sometimes Easter weekend they give the Friday before and Monday after off and then spring break in April).

I teach higher ed (so the rules are a little different) but definitely prefer spring break.

* Fall break is too short (just a four-day weekend)
* Thanksgiving has family obligations
* Christmas is super crowded and has family obligations
* Summer is a miserable time to be in Orlando

I've done Christmas once, but that was when the calendar fell such that the holiday was on a Saturday and I had the full prior week off so I came back home on Christmas day. I've done summer a few times, but won't do that again unless I am thinking about spending most of the time in a water park.

Both the husband and I are teachers and we live in the Seattle area so it’s a quick flight down to Disneyland and 3 to 4 days in the park is great - so really if we take off like one day from school to make a three day weekend it works great any time but since his birthday is New Year’s Day we prefer that last week of December for like 3-5 nights. Since it’s a six hour flight to WDW we tend to go during the summer for a week or so.

That would make a difference for me. Our fall breaks have always been a full week.

The only time we've been at Christmas is the week leading up to Christmas. I wouldn't want to be there between Christmas and New Years.

Why do teachers do that? Its not a teacher schedule, its an anyone with kids in school schedule, parents of school age kids are locked into the same schedule too basically.

Sorry not harping on you hhisc16, but see this posted around often enough about teachers complaining about it, it aint just yall ya know?

We are taking dvc on spring break in March (6-12). Plan is to do Disney on spring break (ours is early march so too cold for beach) and to go to the beach (destin, fl) on fall break (just did our first fall break there earlier this month, was fantastic)

I'm a teacher and my husband is in higher education. I get 2 weeks at Christmas. We have loved doing a trip right before Christmas - like fly out on Dec 23 or 24. Great weather and then we are still with family for the actual Christmas activities.

Most teachers would loss their jobs if they decided to take a vacation during school days, as apposed to parents who have kids and take them out of school for a vacation. It makes it a little harder on a teachers family to plan vacations.

I'm a teacher in the UK. We get 6 weeks off during July/August so we tend to do the last 3 weeks one year and the first 3 weeks the next to get 6 whole weeks from an annual pass.

DW is a teacher and we do long weekends over MLK weekend and Yom Kippur. Unfortunately, she burns all of her personal days, but a Sat-Thursday trip seems to work for us. We're also looking at a potential 'getaway' in the summer, but I'm not sure I'm in love w/ the idea of Disney in summer... looks miserable.

I'm a teacher and we take most of our trips in mid-late August after the Orlando area schools start back and the crowds drop (I usually have to start back Aug 31 or Sept 1, my kids go back around Sept 6-8). We made 2 trips over Christmas break and this year we are trying our first spring break trip the week after Easter.

We travel during most of my breaks (to Disney or otherwise). We almost always do the very last week of August/the first week of September and it's great for low crowds, which makes the weather bearable IMHO. I don't usually have to be back at work until after Labor Day (and I'll make sure to go in early and get my classroom all set to go before we leave). On the years I get 2 weeks at Christmas, we like to go down for part of it - it's just too much to try and go with other family obligations on the years I don't get 2 weeks. I get President's Week in February, and while crowded, the weather can't be beat at that time of year. It's all a trade off of weather and crowds when you're on a teacher schedule.

I'm in HS science and teach in the Northeast. We tend to go during our April vacation because of the nice weather. Christmas is always a good time to go if timing works. So nice to see Disney all decorated for the Holidays! Last time I went during Christmas break, the dates fell where we started vacation on the 21st or the 22nd so we were able to stay for 8 days instead of our usual 5. Our last resort has always been the summer if my hubs has to meet work deadlines during April vacation week (he's not a teacher). It is just so hot then but we try to go during late June so it's less humid than August.
