Teacher holiday gifts

I just went out with my DD and got $5 GCs to Starbucks and then will put a Mrs. Prindables apple and popcorn in the bag...that is what she is giving to her teachers, with the exception of her main teacher, I got her a $25 VISA gift card and a holiday snowman bowl that we will put Mrs. Prindables apples and popcorn and treats in. Hopefully they will like it.

OK teachers out there, what about a lottery ticket?

I used to be a dance teacher and recieved one of them once and thought it was a great idea! It didn't hurt that I "won" $25 with it! :rotfl:

I'm a teacher:teacher: , & I've given "holiday-themed" Scratch Offs (yes, they do make them....I've gotten them at 7-Eleven) along with gift cards before. I've often wondered if the teachers ever won anything with them.

Wow, how great that you won! Not sure about giving them though, unless you know for certain that the teacher plays the lottery.:confused3

Personally, I LOVE the Starbucks GC & the lottery ticket idea...
BUT I have certainly worked w/ some teachers over the years who would find offense with the lottery ticket...
And DH is also a teacher...who doesn't drink coffee!!! (of course, he could give that Starbucks GC to me!)
I recall getting a GC to Hollywood video--unfortunately, we do not live near one! (there is one kind of near the school I was at). I ended up using it as an incentive item for my students the next year.
But overall, I would say GCs are very well received; homemade goodies (again...from trusted families;)); candies--we can always put food in our lounge & it will be GONE!:rotfl:
I am guessing this year as a Media Specialist I may not get many...then again, maybe I will get more--especially since I am at 2 buildings!
Well, bell has rung...time to get to work!:woohoo:

I never realized so many teachers would prefer gift cards and not want the items they are given. I taught for several years and was happy with everything I got. And yes, I got my fair share of ornaments (they are on my tree right now), mugs (I drank hot cocoa from one last night), candles (Love burning them) and trinkets (keep them in a safe place to remember my students).

I have gotten maybe 3 GC the entire time teaching, and although much appreciated, I don't remember who gave me them. I do remember, however, who gave me the santa shell ornament hanging on my tree!

And I would have loved one of those yummy apples mentioned. YUMM!! Fudge, chocolate, hot cocoa in a nice mug! Mugs break a lot in my house, so the more the better! ;)

I love the soft stay at home socks, some fleece throws, a nice pen, but expecially the homemade stuff!

I really do appreciate any gift given...I once had a child give me a very smokey-smelling stuffed bear; I knew her home life was difficult, and I was touched that she was willing to give up a personal item so that she could give me a gift.

That being said...if OP is asking what are the BEST gifts...well, I know that I don't need more STUFF, and that a GC gets the best use. (this is the same as gift-giving at our house...DH & I "gift" each other w/ our travels each year).

I do think that teachers appreciate each & every gift given...

That (the bolded part by me) is why some schools have decreed that NO gifts be given. Too many families these days can't afford anything extra, even in what seem to be affluent communities.

When they can't, or don't bring in a gift and everyone else does, it causes deeply hurt feelings. And sometimes comments by the other students.

Maybe this really is a good idea for all schools, especially in this economy!

I'm giving my kids 4 teachers an Envirosax reusable shopping bag w/a $15 Target giftcard attached. I hope they like it.
