Teacher gifts in Middle School?

DD had 7 teachers in middle school. We gave each one a $5.00 Starbucks gift card, except for DD's favorite teacher (we gave him more).

We'll do the same for DS next year when he gets to middle school.

Dd is in 8th grade and we give her two teachers presents plus the para's. She has 4 classes w/ her special ed teachers and 2 electives (she got the same teacher for those.) I make them some bread (lemon poppy, banana, choc chip) and a little lotion or something.

Well, I always gave a gift to the "core" teachers, but seems there is no "core" teacher in middle school, they all have equal time with the kids. I hate to slight one over the other. Also I always sent a gift just so my children werer part of the party, everyone gave a gift, they would have flet left out if they didn't have anything to give.

I found some gift mugs at Costco, $5 each, in a pack of 3 for $15, pretty mugs filled with chocolates, coffees, etc, tied up with cellophane and ribbon, couldn't do better on my own, I snapped up 4 sets, now I'm ready for everyone!

Also lets not forget scouts, Sunday School, choir,................goes on and on:dance3:
Our core teachers are math, science, social studies, language arts, and foreign language. The others - art, music, etc. - are considered encore, in our state anyway.

As for the original question, I honestly like a card or letter with a personal message best, but chocolate is always good! ;)

I bought the mug gift pack at Costco, too :) I'm usually not a big fan of coffee mugs incorporated into gifts but these were really nicely done. I only wish I had bought more!

All of you guys are great and super nice. I gifted my childrens' elementary teachers, but not middle school. There are just too many of them and I can't do it all. I had two in middle school at the same time. For Christmas last year, I gave my DD second grade teacher a double tied fleece blanket, some hot chocolate and softie socks. Snuggle up with a movie and a warm blanket. She loved it. This year I'll probably do the same thing for her 3rd grade teacher. I do want to do something special for one of my son's football coaches. He's just great with my son and my son loves him as a coach and a person.
Note cards or cute note pads are good too.

We truly appreciate the littlest things (the big basket of goodies for everyone- fits right in there). The sweetest gifts are those genuine notes and cards from the parent or student. I keep those!! :thumbsup2

I'm not a teacher, but I'm a school nurse in a middle school. I would agree with the above statement. It really is the little things that mean a lot. There are a couple of kids in my school who always remember me on special days. One little girl who has serious learning disabilities brings me a cookie every time her grandmother bakes; last Christmas she gave me a tiny little basket that held a tangerine and 2 hershey kisses. It's really nice to be remembered on occasions, but it's the best when I know it comes from the heart.:cloud9:

I use to dothemes for the teachers but between all my kids from daycare to MS I would have almost 20 people to buy for. For the older two I make goodies: cracker candy, turtles (pretzels with rolo), sugar cookies, and bark. I either put it on a platter for each teacher or a tin divided up. One year I got a huge circle platter put a mug in the middle with different hot cocoas and then filled the platter with the baked goods.

Not sure what I will do this year. I am a teacher as well in MS. Teach special education--I hardly ever get anything, but from the ones that I do I cherish it.

This is year #23 of teaching math for me. Two years ago, for the first time, I taught in the middle school wing of our school. That was the first time I ever received Christmas gifts!!!

By and large though, even the middle school teachers here don't receive gifts; there are just too many teachers for each student. (Think: 9 period day plus homeroom-- that's a LOT of gifts!!) We always enjoy getting a Christmas card from our kids.

But if you do want to get something, here are 2 suggestions:
1) Put together a basket of goodies and send it to the faculty room.

2) My absolute favorite gift from that year was a Vera Bradley changepurse. The discontinued patterns are now on sale at the website for $6. http://www.verabradley.com/Site/Store/ProductDetail.aspx?colorid=79&sku=246:79
