Hello everyone :D

I have a friend who is a stay-at- home mom, who is also a certified teacher who subsitutes when necessary. What discounts are available to her and how does she request them?

Thanks a bunch!

The only "teacher discounts" I know about are room discounts at Swan/Dolphin. $129/night, $139/night during Christmas. I called the resort for the discount. A copy of her teaching certificate would work for checking in.

I used this discount last year 12/25-12/31. While I liked the location, the Swan wasn't my cup of tea... didn't feel "Disney" enough for me38, DD14, or mom58. Felt like a nice hotel room.

We had a problem there that wasn't resolved (at least not to my liking). Because of that, the difference in "at-mouse-sphere", and a recent purchase at Beach Club Villas we won't be returning to the Swan.

I just wanted to say that we loved the Swan. We also used the teacher discount and with my DH status from Hilton we were upgraded to the Club level. The location is great and the hotel is really nice. I think it is great that they want to do something nice for teachers and nurses. For more info go to the resort board, there is a lot there to learn.:)

If you ask them, a teaching certificate does not qualify. They want proof that you are employed as a teacher, not that you are eligible to be a teacher. Examples of what they want are: school issued photo ID, or a letter from your Principal on school letterhead, or pay stub. In each case it should state somewhere that you are a teacher instead of another type of school employee. I also don't know how they classify subs.

I will also say that we were not asked to show the proof when we checked in when we used the discount, but I know other people have been asked.

I am not working right now, and all I had with me was my certificate. Although they did not ask for it I had it out with my ressie printout. I think she would be fine.:)

I agree that someone would probably be fine with just a certificate that says you could be a teacher. But my thinking would be "Why risk a problem?" if you can have with you one of the three things they say they want as proof? When I called to make our teacher's discount reservation, I asked if my wife's certificate would to the trick and I was told "No". I don't like "surprises", so we got a letter from her Principal. No questions, no protential snags, no explaining to do. We didn't have to worry about Barney Fife working the front counter and having his cousin as the on-duty manager when we checked in.
