Other than the Swan discount, are there any other perks for teachers?

Possibly because this person is a teacher and is curious as to what perks are available to teachers?

Are there any other perks for teachers?
Not to my knowledge. The rooms at Swan and Dolphin are all the deals for teachers that I know of. They are a pretty good deal at $139 (?) a night for a deluxe room.

 "Why?"

I would think that he is asking because he'd like to know. I can't think that asking the question should make anyone angry.

Yes, I am a teacher, and a brand new one at that. As a matter of fact I am celebrating the completion of my teaching requirements with a well deserved trip to WDW.

I've read that there are special perks for people who work for the companies that are Disney sponsors. Knowing that Disney hosts the teacher of the year awards, I thought there might be some type of recognition.

Congratulations!

Sorry about the discounts. :(

I was curious, since there are tremendous discounts out there. The FTP is a great discount and many resorts throughout LBV and Orlando are at alltime low prices. I can't imagine what other discounts people could be looking for.
Congratulations on becoming a teacher!

I'm a week too early for the Fairy tale package. I just missed out on the earlier discount codes because I had to hold off on chosing my vacation due to family obligations. I was able to get a bit of a AAA discount for ASSp for my week, but thought there could still be something else out there. I have to go for the "value" priced resorts - I'm not making the big bucks yet!

Thank you all for the congratulations. The job I'm hoping for will be voted on while I'm at E-Ride night on 6/24. I'll either be crying for joy or crying from disappointment that night when my cell phone rings with the news. I hope the Disney magic will be doing its stuff!!

I'm a teacher and don't know of any other discounts available except at the Swan. Oh, well.

I will be celebrating the end of the school year at WDW -- am leaving the day after school lets out!

I'm a teacher also...we leave town the second school is over and head for the WORLD!:Pinkbounc

Hope all of you dreams come true!

I know the last time I went to Disney about 3 yrs ago there was a great teachers information resource room at Epcot focusing much on geography and the countries I think.

I teach preschool and still find great things to bring home. Great teacher resources at the space center as well.

Great job on your teaching certificate. I am a K-3 teacher and started family child care preschool. Love being my own boss.

Congratulations!!! I remember getting my first teaching job in 1996. Wow, things have changed since then.

I wish there were more discounts, but I too, have only seen the Swan/Dolphin and unfortunately we don't get paid well enough to afford that discount. I hope you find some others.

If you're a Florida teacher you can get into Sea World Orlando for free (you need a copy of your Florida teaching certificate, a recent pay stub and a photo ID).

Nothing that I know of at Disney.

Thank you all for your warm wishes. I'm very excited - can't sleep between thinking about getting the job and my vacation!

Cherylcat - I will look around at Epcot for teacher info. The job I am going for is a PreK. I enjoyed bringing multicultural themes into my lessons during my student teaching - there was a big emphasis on that at my university. I live in central NJ and we have a very diverse population in our district.

Do they still do children's activites in the world showcase? Last time I was there was during Food and Wine festival, might have been something special for that occasion. I remember my son trying to pick up buttons with chopsticks. Could be a fun fine motor activity for preschoolers!

At my son's school (private) the salaries START at $55k per year (minimum certified with a masters). At the local public school, first year teachers with certification but not a MA/MS start at $40k.

I don't see why teachers are complaining about low salaries. It's more than a lot of just out of college professions make, and well above the average income in this state.

It wasn't a complaint, it was a statement of fact. Apparently, she doesn't make enough money to afford $140 per night. maybe someday she can breathe the rarified air with all of the "concierge crew".

The post I quoted said "We". I took that to mean all teachers. And it seems to me that teachers making ~$50k a year could afford the Swan with the discounted rooms. I do'nt know all of anyones personal financial details, but I'm sure there are a lot of people staying in a lot of rooms more expensive than the Swan who make under $50k a year. It just depends on ones priorities.

I never mentioned anything about concierge.

Anne-the teaching salaries here in the South really do not compare to NJ.I taught for 25 years with a Masters and never came close to the salary at your private school.Their pay is amazing, but your cost of living is much higher! I taught in the public schools and was paid much more than my friends at the private school.I loved ( almost! ) every minute with my 6th and 7th graders, and I congratulate ALL current teachers for a job well done-enjoy your summer!!!:bounce:
Do you know if retired teachers qualify for the Dolphin discount?
That would be great!!

Kitten--I don't think so, because they require a current paystub or school ID at check-in :(

BTW--I heard on the radio this am that Priceline will now allow you to CHOOSE the hotel by name that you are bidding on if you also buy the airfare at the same time through them...so that's a possibility to try...

Thank you,Anne!
I'm just dreaming about how to spend our 30th anniversary next year! We are driving down Labor Day weekend to check out resorts-never stayed onsite!! I am sooo excited to see what's out there! I am already scouring these boards on a daily basis and will be asking LOTS of questions. So, TIA all you WDW VETS!!
