I know this question has been asked before, but I can't do a search, so bear with me.

Can college professors use the teacher discount at the Swan and Dolphin? How much is it?

Thanks,
Krista

Not sure, but you certainly qualify for the gov. employee discount if you teach at a state university or college.

A standard view room at Swan/Dolphin with teacher's discount is $129 plus tax and $10 per night resort fee. The prices go up depending on view (prices without tax or resort fee): $154 for lake view, $164 resort view no balcony; $184 resort view with balcony, $199 club level.

I believe it was BillPA who received the teacher's rate and he is a college professor. Try to search for his earlier post in this thread.

Just be aware...these discounts are generally blocked out during school vacation weeks! Go figure.

FYI I have always gotten these rates over school vacation weeks, 4 years running without any problems. College profs do qualify, it may be easier to go for govt rate right thru dreams they seem to have the best availability. You can use teacher or govt rate, we have found its easier to use the govt rate and just bring work id or paystub

As a college prof, I was given the teacher rate without hesitation on a direct call to the S/D reservations desk last Nov. Just have to show an ID at checkin, they said.

Personally I don't get the govt employee connection. I do work for a state university, but I don't see how I am any more a state employee than a K-12 teacher. I am not employed by the state govt, nor does it say "State of Ohio" on my paycheck. But if it works for S/D, that's all that matters!

Is this unique to the Swan/Dolphin? My understanding was Disney resorts blocked out these discounts during peak periods?

Swan and dolphin do not block out dates for discounts, the general rule is these rates are available until the resort is 80% full. The rooms don't always become available at once however and it may take several calls to get the exact dates you want at the discount

My Dh teaches at a private college. We were able to get a teacher discount last June and again for this May. My DH loves the Dolphin. My kids love the pool :)

sonicworld ~ S/D are not Disney resorts. They are part of the Starwood hotels. Hope this clarifies this for you as to why the discounts are available.

No, the peak holiday times aren't blacked out. My friend(who is a teacher) just made ressies last week directly with the Swan for Dec.27, 2003-Jan.1,2004. She could have booked at the Dolphin too. She booked the $129.00 rate.

Many thanks to everyone, you've been so helpful. I'm helping a friend plan their first trip to Disneyworld!

Thanks again,
Krista
