What are you doing for teacher appreciation week this year? Any new ideas??

Ours is May 5-9.. With May 7th being an inservice day so we won't be doing anything since the kids are out of school.

We are doing 2 lunches
A dessert bar day
Flowers for the teachers
A coffee bar at one school w/ bagels
The second school I'm waiting an email from the Principal to figure her day out..

The Jr. High is doing a breakfast bar, lunch day, dessert day and ice cream social...

I have yet to be contacted re: the High school.... so I don't know what is going on there...

maybe i should be contacting our room mom to figure out when ours is.

thanks for the heads up!

I'll be seeing our head of the PTO when I help set up the book fair on Friday. I'll ask her then what they are doing for the teachers. If they aren't do anything, I guess I will have to figure out something for my boys' teachers.

Ours is the first week of May. I'm not involved in what the school does for the whole building, but I usually try to do something small each day for the kids' teachers....like a candy bar, a flower, note from the kids, etc.

We are having a luncheon on May 2 for the staff.......its always a Mexican theme with lots of homemade authentic Mexican food.

I will do something on my own as always for DD teachers! have to start thinking about that!

We would have week long activities. We got our families involved as much as possible. The teachers were also given small gifts in their mail boxes everyday form the H&S. (ex: colorfull post-its, box of blank note cards, survival kits, stickers).

Day 1 Each child brings in a flower for their teacher. ( I would always buy extras for those that forgot). The room mother was responsible for bringing in a vase.

Day 2 Each child would bring in a thank you note from either them or parents.

Day 3 Teacher/Staff lunch. Our teachers always requested to share this lunch with the entire staff. This would be a buffet that was provided by the school families. We also did games and trivia with prizes. Everyone attending would get a prize. Parents would volunteer to sit in the class' while the lunch was going on.

Day 4 Each child would bring in an item of relaxation (ex; slippers, face scrubs, bubble bath). The class mom would bring in a basket. Again, extra items were purchased for those that forgot.

Day 5 A small party at the end of the day. Each class would provide their own snacks and party supplies.

This was always a busy week, but, well worth it. Our teachers were great. They are way underpaid.

As for my kids personally, we always send in a potted plant they can utilize in the classroom and than take home.. The teachers love it!!!! :)

IMALOVNDISNEY -- those are great ideas!

Thanks..It was very easy to come up with....We were a small school and all of our teachers were family. Everyone loved them.
It took a couple of years to perfect. It was nice to see the new H&S committee keep that tradition. Our goal as with everything we did was to keep the children involved and understand why it was being done.

We used some of those same ideas for Principles and Secr. Day. But, we turned them into week long events as well. Can you tell we like celebrations?

Even had a special day for the kitchen workers and the custodians.
