Teach me please!

I am brand new, never planned a trip to disney and have no idea where to start! I have 3 kids, current ages daughter will be 5 in Jan, son is 3.5, daughter 9.5 months.
I don't know where to start?? Are there all inclusive packages? Is it less expensive to go another route? Any help is appreciated!

Congrats on planning your first Disney trip! You'll probably get a lot more response if you post this on one of the regular DIsney forms (Theme Parks, Resorts, etc.) This board is for the Disney Vacation Club which is Disney's version of a time share program. You'll probably get some good advice here, but you'll get more on the other boards.

You will need to decide when you want to go and where you want to stay before you do anything else. You can stay at one of the Disney resorts (which I would highly recommend, especially for your first trip) or you can stay off property. If you stay on property Disney does offer package options but usually it is cheaper to pay for each component separately. If you'd like the simplicity of having everything put together for you and don't mind spending a bit extra then a package would be a good choice.

So start there and then you can move on to what kinds of tickets you'll need, where you want to eat, etc. The best planning site I know of is www.allearsnet.com You'll find resort reviews/pictures, restaurant menus, ticket prices and so much more.

sorry for the slow responses. technically, this forum is for disney timeshare discussions. most of the posters here have timeshares on disney property and with our accomodations taken care of...a lot of us don't look into travel packages and such.

you may have better luck posting on the "welcome to the DIS" forum, but i'll try to post what little i know to get you started at least.

* if disney is running a special package, that's probably a good deal for first timers. (many posters i've seen prefer the pop resort to the all-stars, BTW, if you are looking for the cheapest onsite hotel.)

*offsite hotels will be the cheapest option (if you'd like more room, there are also house rentals offsite that are reasonably priced.) you can also order tickets slightly more cheaply than wdw prices by buying ahead of time at undercovertourist.com or mapleleaftickets.com. wdw has a lot of ticket options, though, so make sure you understand what benefits you are paying for.

definitely scan through the different forums - especially the disney trip planning forums to learn about theme park strategies and disney resorts as well as other offsite resorts in orlando.

All of this may seem like alot of information to navigate but it is worth it to take the time and find out all you can - the more you know the better your planning & trip will go
