Hi All!

As a surprise, I was considering having a "tea party" the day before the wedding, for all the ladies that would be attending, at the GF. I would send a message ahead of time asking them to bring a fabulous hat with with them! I figured it would be light fare, and the best is since my FAVORITE character of all time is Mary Poppins... I can have her there since it will be a theme party!! Plus I can maybe throw in some Alice in Wonderland elements and get them both there for a "Mad Hatter Tea Party"

Have any of you done anything thing like this?

Do you have any suggesstions?

I have never done anything like it, but I know there are a bunch that have! This idea sounds awesome, way too much fun!:wizard:

I also want to do the tea party. This is the one event I am most excited about besides the actual wedding. I will for sure have the Mad Hatter, but I have not decided if I will have any other characters.

I am not sure, but I think it was stated on these boards recently that in order to have the Alice in Wonderland characters attend a teaparty, you had to order a few of the cool (but expensive) Alice props (eg giant mushroom etc). I think different rules may apply to teaparties, as opposed to wedding reception character appearences!!! Might be worth a check with your planner!!

Thanks- I asked him and he said since it was not a wedding, and I would be having it at the GF, as a tea party, that should suffice. My main gaol is to get Mary Poppins, so I think I may be ok. :)

1 Thanks! I am looking forward to that almost as much as the wedding!

I can't seem to figure out to search on here well, so if anyone has any pictures or ideas please forward :)

Thanks a bunch!

I am trying to figure out what I will put in their "goodie" bags.....

Some like tea so that is easy, other like coffee, so I might do a "drink pack" type thing and then I want to incorporate some Mary elements....

Here are my thoughts so far:

I think I will hand out the wicker hats with the red, white and blue ribbon the ladies wore in the movie

2. My girls are walking down the aisle ( Epcot Fance) with vintage umbrellas so I will give them to them that da

3. Maybe give piggy banks so that people can save their "toppins"

4. Somehow incorporate kites and chalk drawings

5. Decor: carousels, umbrellas, sugar :)

Any suggestions?

The day before our VR, the ladies are taking tea at the Garden View tearoom at the GF. I have themed this tea after Alice in Wonderland (the original book - not so much the Disney film, though I love that too). One of my earliest childhood memories is of my Daddy reading this book, a chapter a night to my brother and me. The theming of my tea after this dearest of books seemed natural to me!!!
Each lady will receive a goody bag containing the following:-
A 'Drink me' pack. Most will have a tea one containing tea (obviously!!), a teabag holder and teabag squeezers. The two that don't drink tea will have a hot chocolate pack containing hot chocolate, various toppings and a mini whisk
An 'Eat me' pack containing a variety of sweets to represent characters from the book - chocolate hearts (Queen of Hearts), white mice (Dormouse), jelly caterpillars (caterpillar) and one other which I am yet to decide!!
A copy of the book with the original illustrations
A pack of cards in a box with a label on it saying 'Why, you are nothing but a pack of cards'
I may put some other things in if I come up with anything else!!
I have asked my ladies to come dressed in pretty, feminine attire and have said on the invitations that 'Hats or fascinators are requested'
My attire for the tea is nodding towards the Queen of Hearts, though it is not a costume as it is not fancy dress. I am wearing a red dress with red heart necklace and earrings, black shoes with red heart shoe clips and a black fascinator.
Here are the labels I have designed for the 'Eat Me' and 'Drink Me' packs as an example of what I have in mind

Your teaparty sounds like great fun - can't wait to hear more about it!!!
Oh, by the way, what is a 'toppin' please?

A fabulous beautiful idea!!!!

Thanks for all the great information!!

I misspelled it, its really tuppence which is short for twopence, which is basically 2 pennies

Its funny I have been doing more work on my tea party than my wedding :rotfl2:

My LOA is set to come in Monday so I am sure the wedding stuff will pick up real soon. :cool1:

My latest dilemma is the hats for the ladies. Since I am keeping this a big surprise, I am afraid if I tell them to bring a hat they will figure it out. So, I think I will just send an invite with either something very specific to the movie, that unless you are a die hard like me, you will never get it, or not have a theme to the invitation.

With that being said I was thinking of purchasing the hats for them. I think I will make/wear Mary's black hat with the daisy and I think I am going to have them decorate their own "Freedom for Women" hat. I will order them replica sashes!

In the movie Mrs. Banks wore a straw hat- I was thinking of hitting up the craft store after 4th of July to get ribbons, stars,tc. to have them decorate their hats to match with the sash.

Or..... I was thinking of just finding big hats and having ribbons, feathers, etc. to decorate with. At each place setting I am giving them small gloves and maybe if its cheap, boas.

I will upload some pictures.

Tell me what you think ???:confused3

I did a tea party for my bridesmaids and all the important women in my life. I had it the day before the wedding at the Garden View Tea Room.

I ordered hats off of Oriental Trading and everyone decorated their own hat.:

The band comes right off. They all turned out really cute. Looks like they are out of stock right now - but hopefully they will come back soon.

I love the idea of a Mary Poppins themed tea. Your outfit plans are such a good idea, I hope you will post photos of your hat and sash when you get them! :)

Does anyone have any information on pricing for Mad Hatter Tea parties? I have been asking my planner for weeks, and her assistant has just been beating around the bush.... and driving me crazy! I would really like to know how much something like this costs? Is it per person, are there minimums, are you required to have certain decorations, etc? Any input would be much appreciated..... sorry if I quasi-hijacked the thread!

Its ok... no worries... that's how we find out things@!:cool1:

I don't have a price list. All I know is that Bill told me it could be held in the GF Whitehall patio. I really want it out side, rather than in- he said could be customized, i.e. chair covers, linens, etc. to get the Marry Poppins look. He sent me a menu, but it was not a tea menu. I can send as soon as I get more information. Since I am doing a tea and the tea will have a theme, I can have Marry Poppins there.

Hope that helps.

I think your Mary Poppins teaparty will be lovely!!!
Thanks for clearing up the toppins/tuppence thing. I was really puzzled about the 'toppins', but being from the UK I know what tuppence is - an name still widely used here for two pence!!!

thanks for the photos- I did see some of your tea party pictures before, and LOVED what you did.
