Tea drinkers

I may have a crappy microwave but I can always tell the difference between the kettle and the microwave.

I perfer the old fashion kettle.

My DH loves loose leaf tea from Teavana, and he boils his water in a kettle and uses a thermometer to make sure it is the right temp before pouring it over his leaves. then he uses a timer to make sure he steeps it long enough, but not too long. It is alot of work, but it makes a GREAT cup of tea! I especially love the monkey picked oolong.

Some people prefer a 1982 Chateau Lafite Rothschild at $4,000.00/bottle and I like wine from a cardboard carton.

To each their own. Do as you wish for yourself as for me if a guest prefers boiled or microwaved, I will oblige.

:thumbsup2, me too!:flower3:

The recommendation I've seen is to use a food-grade wooden skewer. Actually, a cinnamon stick would probably work too, and provide some additional flavor.

That is a good idea! I was wracking my brain for an alternative to give the pp but couldn't think of anything. :goodvibes

Not sure if you know, but the Twinings website (www.twinings.com) sells its tea at really reasonable prices ($2.99/box, $1.99/box for the tea of the month). If you sign up for email, they send a 20% off code every so often (or free shipping). I do large orders about 3 times per year.

My current bag favorites are the Christmas tea (tea of the month for December!) and the Apple Spice Chai. I get Lady Grey and Darjeeling loose leaf as well.

ETA: I have a tea kettle that I love! Like a PP, I will zap old tea in the microwave, but when I make it fresh it's in a tea kettle. In addition to the taste, the water doesn't seem to stay hot as long when it's been microwaved (but I notice that with food as well).

I am on their list... thanks! I love Lady Grey, too! Yummers.

I think the fact that it doesn't stay hot as long when it's microwaved is why I prefer it that way! I don't like it when it's too hot, and I hate having to wait for it to cool down.

I think Teavana is having a sale right now... I got an email, but didn't fully read through it yet.

My DSIL gave me a Ming Dynasty Mug from Teavana! So pretty!

Oh and I wanted to share with all of you tea drinkers ... I was away over the holidays and I ordered a cup of tea for my lunch at the hotel and I picked Bigelow's "Green Tea with Pomegranate & Acai" and it is so awesome! :thumbsup2

Would like to share a tea that I discovered a year ago. It's called chai spice black tea from Stash. It comes in a box with 20 teabags. It has ginger, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, cloves and cardamon mixed with black teas. So yummy.

Oh that does sound yummy! :thumbsup2

I was referring to the foam created by microwaved water once you put the tea bag in. Nothing funky comes out of our Keurig! :rotfl:
I don't get that. Maybe it's something in the water that reacts in the microwave somehow?

What you're seeing is probably the result of a relatively cold tea bag hitting super-heated water.

I am tea-kettle boiler myself, brew in a teapot. I am a tea snob tho' so you can blame my grandmother who would only drink her tea out of tea cups from England ;)

According to the 1951 voume of "Oh, For a French Wife!" the reason that tea needs to be made with freshly boiled water is:

"When a cookbook tells you not to roll out dough with coup de force, it means that the writer is afraid you will roll the air out of it. Cold air going into an oven will chase warm air out of a souffle and make it sink. When the book says to boil some things with the lid off, it means that air is a necessary ingredient....

If you boil water for a long time before you make tea, you drive the air out of it and make bad tea... Leave freshly ground coffee in the air and what happens? The 02 in the air carries off the oils that give the tastes. You smell the coffee, but soon you won't be able to taste it. Take the CO2 out of champagne and beer and what do you have left?"

Different wines, for which, no doubt, connoisseurs would note substantial differences, generally all taste the same to me. If you don't appreciate the differences, then you probably won't detect them.

I have NEVER had foam from heating my water in the microwave.

Oh dearie me! Putting plastic straws or plastic spoons in the microwave is *not* a good idea.

I use a wooden chop stick, stick it in the water and no worries about it splashing out. The chop stick is food grade so it's microwave safe. :)

I wouldn't say I'm a connoissuer of wine but I can definitely tell the differences in different wines. Winery brands or even as simple as a Reisling to a Reisling, there are definitely differences!!

OP I use the microwave to heat my water. I have a glass tea pot with an infuser inside, I use loose tea (I like bagged tea as well and use that for a cup) inside the infuser, add the microwave heated water, let it sit for 3-5 minutes depending on the tea and enjoy. :) I'd love to have a tea kettle, I should have put that on my Christmas list! LOL
