The TCD gang lost its favorite family member yesterday, when the TCD dog, Cookie, had to go to the Big Fort in the sky:

Nobody loved the Fort more than Cookie.

She was the best dog anyone could ever have, and I sure do miss her!

TCD - that really stinks. It is horrible to lose a family pet, especially one that is truly a member of the family. Cookie looks like a great dog! Sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry!! I, too have lost beloved fur babies. It's not easy. I just like to think they're up there, playing in a huge doggy park, munching on endless dog bones and having a great time, until we all meet up again.

:grouphug:

Still have the last tennis ball from our old girl. She and the ball sit in oldest Ds's room.
Not easy losing them. :sad1:

TCD I am so very sorry for your loss! I understand and I know how much you will miss your precious companion!:sad1:

So, so sorry, TCD. No matter how long they're with us, it's never long enough.

We lost our first border collie Maggie 3 years ago this week and still miss her terribly. :sad1:

Cookie was a beauty and clearly loved her time at the Fort. She was a lucky, lucky girl to have had such a great family.

Sorry for your loss. Ya'll should take the weekend and go camping.

Sorry for your sad time, hope the time when joyous memories of Cookie fill your hearts and minds come soon.

Real sorry to hear about your loss!:grouphug:

I'm not enjoying this TCD thread. Sorry for the loss Andrew. I remember the 1st time I met you last year you and the dw were walking the dogs.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry for your loss. :(

Thank you all so much. I can't believe I am so sad over the loss of a dog. But she was the only member of my family who liked me. And, now she's gone.

I thought I was done crying, as I am not really a crier, but then John/RVUSA had to post the Rainbow Bridge story. Sniff. But, really, thank you for that story. In about April, Cookie started walking funny. We took her to the vet, and had x-rays taken. Of course, the vet suspected hip dysplasia. The x-rays showed her hips were fine. By process of elimination, the vet determined it was neuropathy- a nerve problem-and that there was nothing that could be done for it. Over the past few months, poor old Cookie continued to deteriorate. It got to the point where it was clear that she had no more feeling in her back legs. If I carried her outside, she could stand and eat and do her business, and occasionally she could get herself walking and walk around-sometimes she would even build up to a run. This past weekend though, Cookie really couldn't stand on her own any more, and we all reluctantly had to agree that her time had come. She went peacefully in our arms at the Vet's office.

Now, I know she is waiting for me by the Rainbow Bridge. The only problem is that I need to clean up my act so I head that way instead of the other way.

Gosh darn you, John. Now I gotta tell my wife my allergies are kicking up.
