Taxis watch out

I took a taxi from Downtown Disney to MK this morning. My taxi driver was great but he noticed another taxi acting strangely. The other taxi stopped to make the passengers pay for parking fee ($15) which I am sure he pocketed. He also drove very slowly once he got past the gate to run up the charge. My taxi passed by him and was going to report him.

You should never be charged for a parking fee and watch out for dirty tricks like going slow.

Was the other taxi Yellow or Checker?

One of the above (maybe both nowadays) does not charge you the parking fee when going through the theme park toll booth. The other and also all other brands do, or at least used to.

You have the right to a taxi of the brand you want even if a different brand is first in line (at the airport or wherever).

How does driving slow cost more? Isn't the charge on the distance, not the time? I always thought it was $x per 1/4 mile or 1/2 miles or whatever, not $x per 10 minutes.

In my experience (but not at wdw) it's a per mile unless traffic is slow then there is a per minute rate.

Enlighten me though isn't there a place for drop offs? So you wouldn't have to pay to park if you are getting dropped off? Or does Disney charge taxis to park regardless?

If the taxi is not parking, it does not pay the fee.

I'm waiting for Uber to come to Orlando. It's great!

Good question that I was wondering as well. The taxi is there to drop me off. if they want to park and wait for another fare, that is at their cost, IMO. I don't think I'd pay.

That said, I would also likely ask to be dropped off at the Contemporary instead of the TTC, which would not require a parking in any case and avoid the concern.

I suspect the issue is that the parking toll plaza on World Drive is before the split to the hotels or taxi dropoff. If somebody didn't know that they shouldn't be charged for getting dropped off I can see how they would think they had to pay.
