We don't have any excursions scheduled in PV and was wondering what the taxis are like. We would like to go shopping and maybe see the cathedral. Are they waiting at the port? Are they safe? How much do they cost, etc.

Thanks!

There are taxi's (mostly air-conditioned vans) waiting at each port. After our excursion in PV, we took a taxi to go shopping, and it was a set price of $6 for the cab to the shopping area.

We did an all-day (spur of the moment) "tour" with a van driver in Mazatlan, and for the van for 6 of us, it was $20 per person.

The van in Cabo was a set price of $6 (total) to take us to the shopping area.

We felt very safe, as they do this for their living, and are friendly, knowledgeable, and the vans/cars were clean.

Even catching a return taxi to the ship in PV and Cabo was very easy....there were tons of them!

We did not book any excursions for some of the members of our party and did exactly what you are planning to do. My parents could not walk for long distances, so we took the Diamonds International free bus into the shopping area. We walked around and had lunch at The Blue Shrimp (yum). The cathedral was within walking of The Blue Shrimp. There are taxis at every corner in the shopping area. After shopping for a while, we took a taxi back to pier. The driver was friendly and his car was clean. He charged us $3 per person which is what we were told to pay by Riann at the shopping talk.

If you are looking for jewelry, the Diamonds International is only in business for the past 7 months and are very willing to make a deal. We shopped the DI at all the ports and are very satisfied that we got the best deal in PV.

They have quit doing the free transportation to/from Diamonds International. It turned out that it was too confusing to figure out who had the "ticket" from the ship that allowed the free transportation, and Riann told me that people were taking advantage of it to try to get transportation to other areas of town. And perhaps, not necessarily all of them were people from the Disney Cruise.

Thanks for all the responses. It makes me feel much more at ease. I guess going to the shopping talk would be a good idea, then?

I'll have to tell DH about the diamonds!

We go to PV every year for at least a week. Cabs are fine and everyone is great. If you have a chance go to a tequila factory for a tour. It is wonderful and only takes about an hour. What most people do not know is that 98% of all tequila is made there. What we call tequila in the states is processed and is not considered tequila in other places. We do not drink but always bring home our 3 bottles each. Most of the tequila is an after dinner drink and is flavored. NO WORMS

gydell--can you do this excursion outside of Disney? Do you just take a taxi? That does sound fun. I had a bad experience once with tequila so I don't drink it anymore, but it still sounds like fun.

All you have to do is ask the cab driver to take you to a tequila factory. They know where they all are. We have been to several different ones, all the same.
