what is the customary tip for a taxi trip? I only need a short one time trip, no luggage, and used the fare estimator which yielded the fare as around $7.50- so what should I tip?

I would say 'customary' is between 10-20%. On a $7.50 fare, I would give the driver $9, so that's a tip of $1.50.

Me personally, if I have a bill of $7.50 (food delivery, restaurant check, taxi), I'm tipping an even $10. Again, just me personally, I usually round up to a round-ish amount, to the benefit of the person I'm tipping. I don't go nuts and hugely over-tip, but if it's a difference of a buck or 2 I figure I'll give it to the person providing a decent service for me.

I do the same thing because I'm a little OCD about amounts that don't end in "5" or "0."
