YES. This is important to remember. Uber makes it very obvious there is surge pricing, though, it would be hard to miss. (They make you physically enter on your keyboard to confirm you understand the surge pricing amount. I mention this because most of their bad press/complaints are in regards to surge pricing and I don't know how anyone could not know before requesting that the prices will be higher.) If you're requesting one at busy times (like after Wishes) you will likely come across surge pricing. But you can make your decision from there. I usually don't give it a second thought if surge pricing is under 1.7, but after that and closer to 2.0 I'll make sure to calculate it in my head first and determine if I'm willing to pay. (I've seen it as high as 4.0 which is 4 times the fare amount. But that was not at WDW, that was in the city on a very bad weather day in which no one could adequately walk.) You can also request that they let you know if surge pricing ends in the next 30 minutes.
Yes, it's good to pay attention to surge pricing. One time I was in Washington and there was a surge pricing in effect. I waited about 10 minutes (kept refreshing) and then prices went back to normal and I booked the car. It's ALWAYS good to keep in mind that you can always get a regular cab instead if you don't like the price suggested.
