Taxi or Uber from Hollywood Blvd to USH?

So, our hire-car plans are falling out.
(it would actually be cheaper for us to get taxis around than the hire car for 10 days + parking + the fact that the car will be barely used / sitting in a parking lot all day/night while we're at DLR/USH/sleeping at hotel)

I'm just wondering - would a taxi or uber be able to collect us from Hollywood Blvd (near the TCL Chinese Theatre) and drop us at Universal Studios Hollywood?

Here on the other side of the world, some taxi drivers may think a 3 mile fare could be boarding on too-short to be worth their while & some could refuse us the transport for that.
Could this be likely situation if we were looking to use taxis from this location up to USH?

We're aware there is public transport for cheaper, but have a feeling the time saved via a car could pay off for our situation?

Also, I've not actually used uber personally yet, though know many who have.
Which would be better in your view - taxi, or uber?

I have a friend that drives for uber in the area, so I would vote for uber. :)

I just googled "taxi fare universal Hollywood" and sound a trioadvisor thread where a person with the same username as a poster here posted, and there was a recommendation to try https://www.taxifarefinder.com

That should help you.

Awesome, thank you so much!

I think we understand the fares but somehow it still works out cheaper than our own car option, but possibly still faster than PT/walking.

I guess I didn't make it very clear *laughs* but I think my concern is more if its likely for drivers (either taxi or uber) in CA to reject fares that are ~3 miles in distance?

Here in Australia we can occasionally get fares rejected if the distance is not "far enough" for the driver to see it being worth their while to take us :(

We did that trip and took the subway or whatever it is called there just a few stops and walked up the hill to universal. I have a 6 an d7 year old. They were a littlel grumpy about it because the hill is steep but it isn't that far.. you could grab a tram or something at the bottom but I'd rather walk than wait. The tram stop looked kind of full.. but the subway ran very regularly short waits.
Just saying.. otherwise Uber is usually cheaper

There's a minimum fare to protect them from accepting rides that are "too short." I always tip well for shorter rides. From Hollywood and Highland you could take the red line to the Universal stop.

OK, from Hollywood and Highland, it is one stop north to Universal Studios. but is a long trip (about 5 minutes) because it goes under a mountain. Good thing, the freeway and city streets can get very clogged, so it bypasses the heavy traffic. Then you do have a walk, basically out of the station, and crossing the street to a Tram Stop (do not recommend walking up the hill, a long steep walk). The Tram drops you off very close to the main Entrance and Security check.

It would be my preference over driving (minimum parking is $18, and there is somewhat of a walk, mainly through the CityWalk shopping and dining area), or a taxi/uber/lyft.

Depending how many people you have, I would also suggest taking the red line. $3.50 round trip per person (plus $1 each for a TAP card, assuming you don't already have them). You're honestly not going to save time taking a taxi/uber over the train. It's a subway line, so it doesn't have to deal with any traffic.

Three miles may sound like a really quick drive but from Hollywood and Highland to USH it's really not that fast. The train will be faster.

Also, though, re: them rejecting your ride because it's short, I have ubered home from Hollywood and Highland multiple times, and I only live 6 blocks away. Three miles is 5x that. Three miles simply isn't a short distance in LA. Not by a long shot. It's almost a ten minute drive for me to drive to the Target that's a mile from my apartment.

Take the Redline subway. Cheaper and faster.

Traffic is pretty bad in that area and the Subway will be the quickest way to get to Universal.
