How much is a taxi gonna cost from OKW to a decent grocery store? There are 4 of us and we're totally not big city people, so only been in a taxi 2x in my entire life..... do we pay per person? Or is it just to and back is the price we pay? Do we tip the driver? Do they take you back to your room or drop you off at Hospitality House?

Also, what grocery store would you recommed in the area, I know there's probably a Super Wal-Mart and Super Target (never been to a Super Target! LOL), Winn Dixie and Publix (which we do not have up North) in the close vicinity... what would you recommend, as I'm only familiar with the Super Wal-Mart! We'd be looking for good meat, lots of fresh fruits & veggies, that kind of thing.

May just order groceries if it's going to be a huge hassle, but would really rather go shopping ourselves and get exactly what we want.

Two alternates to taking a cab...

1) Use a place like gardengrocer.com. $12 (I think) for delivery & a nice selection on their website.

2) Rent a small car for one day. I just looked and there is a National Car Rental place 1.3 miles away from OKW. You can either walk there, or see if they will come pick you up (which is entirely possible). The price of a one day car rental won't be that much & will give you a bit more flexibility than a cab in that you can go to multiple places.

Hope this helps!

I would like to know too, also how much a taxi ride to the outlet mall on the other side of I-4? I know they have a Disney Character Warehouse outlet there. I want to go check it out one night after a day at AK (they closes like 5pm, so early). thanks

Enterprise will pick up at any resort as well, and it's pretty inexpensive when you cut out the airport-related fees. We've used them a number of times when we only wanted/needed a car for part of a stay and have had great luck/service.

Not sure if it would be cheaper than just ordering from gardengrocer, if groceries are really the only issue.

But if you wanted to get the car just for a day (or even two) and do the things that are a pain on the bus (going to the farthest park from you, or the changing wet clothes on water park day, or DTD shopping with many bags to carry back...you get the idea), it might be an efficient plan.

I took a taxi five years ago to the Super Walmart and it cost over $40 round-trip - which means it's probably more now.
You can rent a car online through Alamo or National using codes you can find at mousesavers.com for a lot less than that - there is the Car Care Center where they will send a shuttle to your resort at a pre-arranged time and take you to your car, and when you return your car, they will return you to your resort. There is also a Hess station right beside the Car Care Center where it's easy to top up when you return your car.
We rented one last year for only $26 and the gas cost me $3 to top off after we went shopping at Super Walmart.
I would seriously look into that as it gives you more freedom, and you have the car for 24 hours, which would be great for exploring or going to other resorts for dinner/shopping etc.
Just my opinion, but every penny helps!:goodvibes

Just last October we called & had Yellow cab pick us up from SSR to Winn Dixie & it cost us $10 each way. It is not per person & yes we tipped a few dollars each way. We called when we were done shopping & they dropped us off right in front of our building. We also prefer to do our own shopping & Winn Dixie has beach towels, flip flops, souveniers, pool toys, etc. We also got the Winn Dixie discount card which saves us money. You can fill out the form on-line at their website.

As for the food we really liked their selections of meats & produce & they even some nice ready made foods.
