Taxi from hotel to Disneyland

For a future trip, I'm trying to compare the relative merits of using ART vs. taking a taxi both to Disneyland in the morning and back to the hotel later in the day. The specific hotel I am thinking about is the Staybridge on Manchester (approximately 1.3 miles SE of Disneyland).

Q1: if I catch a taxi at my hotel, and say "take us to Disneyland", does anybody have any idea of approximately where the taxi driver would drop us off? If the drop off point is (for example) over by downtown Disney somewhere, then the taxi fare would be substantially more than if there is a drop off point somewhere along Harbor (near the IHOP, for example).

Q2: later in the day, where would we go to find a taxi to return to our hotel? Off hand, the only place I can think of to catch a taxi would be in front of the Grand Californian hotel, which would not only be a fairly long walk from Disneyland, but also be a relatively expensive fare back to the hotel.

I'm starting to think that taking a taxi to and from the Staybridge hotel (or any hotel, for that matter) to Disneyland may be more trouble than it is worth, and it might be best for us to use ART and hope for the best.

(we are a family of four, so a one day ART pass would cost 4 x $5 = $20, and I was hoping that a taxi fare each way would be only $12 or so)

Despite the fact I've walked up Harbor hundreds of times over the past few years, I have no memory of passing a taxi area. I just took a look at google maps, and it certainly indicates that I am very unobservant.

When you say "east side of Harbor", do you mean "east side of Disneyland, on the west side of Harbor"? That is where (according to the following google photo) there appears to be a line of taxis waiting for passengers. Is the taxi area in this photo the area you are referring to? It seems to be ideally situated for my purposes, both for drop-off in the morning and pick-up in the evening.

I wonder, later in the evening when lots of people are leaving the parks, how long the wait would be for a taxi?

We were just there in October. Stayed at the Holiday Inn on Manchester and used Uber. Never had to wait more than 5 minutes.

I assume you used Uber both to and from Disneyland? If so, were both the drop off and pick up at Disneyland in the area shown on my map?

Do you recall about how much an Uber fare was from the Holiday Inn? I don't use Uber, so I assume a taxi fare would be a few dollars more in each direction.

$6.20 from the hotel to Disneyland. I'm not sure where on the map we were dropped off. I just remember it was really close to the entrance.

Yes. There's a median in the middle of Harbor at that point, so you can only turn into it while heading south. It's the old 10 minute lot that is just south of the shuttle entrance.

I love how exact this question is. :)

Where you see employees waiting to be picked up?

It's funny, a few years back they were actually telling people (us included) that taxis were NOT allowed to pick up there and we had to go to DTD.

Since we were going south on harbor to Hilton Garden Inn the idea of walking what felt like halfway there to get a cab felt silly. Since we were in the shuttle area. Decided to just walk. Then a cab driver who was in that 10 minute area said he would take us. I don't normally trust cab drivers who break rules but DH was with us so we went ahead lol.

Glad to hear cans are allowed to be there again.

My wife and I usually stay at the Staybridge Suites on S Manchester Av - to be honest, if we're not too bothered about walking to DL from there we'll just use the ART shuttle service which is provided. It runs every 20 mins or so and is usually on time.

The journey also on the ART transport can usually be quite a bit safer too, certainly for families, compared to taxis.

Why not try out Uber? It really can be a super fast and inexpensive option.
In the Uber app there is the ability to receive a quote for the fare. If the fare agrees with your budget then just select Uber. Also there are Uber promos for your first ride one way being free up to whatever the maximum is for the particular offer. Mine was for up to the first $22 one way.

I agree to use Uber and/or Lyft. They will pick you on the west side of Harbor on the east side of Disneyland. There is an area where people do the drop off and pick up. I never noticed until a couple months ago, either. I only noticed it because there were so many people waiting there to be picked up and the car line was out to the street. That was late at night on a summer night. I don't expect it would be as busy other times, but you never know. I'd expect the cost of Uber and Lyft to be quite a bit less than a taxi.

I don't know where the drop off/pick up location would be for Downtown Disney. It seems like they'd have to have one and that there'd also be places for dropping off and picking up at the hotels, but I've never noticed anything.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Since my wife and I are (apparently) the last two people in North America who don't own cell phones, we can't (easily) make use of Uber. It appears, though, that for a family of four making one return trip to Disneyland, grabbing a taxi each direction will be more convenient, and be about the same cost, as using ART.

On days where we anticipate making two return trips to Disneyland, I'm willing to give ART another try, despite experiencing less than satisfactory service the one time in the past when we used ART.
