Is it easy to get a Taxi from a Disney Resort? We are staying at port orleans and wish to visit the following:

Orlando Premium Outlets Mall
and
Dolly Partons Dixie Stampede
and
Uinversal Parks
and
Seaworld

Can you get a taxi from the resort without prebooking? Is it easy to get back by Taxi?

Any advice would be great.

Hi

I can only report on what I have done. We have used taxis to the Premium Mall. On the advice of our resort concierge that it is the cheapest way to go, we take the Disney bus to DTD and get a taxi from the West Side parking lot. It is easier to get out of Disney from there, hence a lower fare. You will actually see the taxis standing there waiting so no need to phone or flag them down or anything.

If you are watching your fare, avoid rush hour as this adds time onto the journey. Our last trip doing this to the Premium Mall cost $12 there and $16 back (hit the start of the 5 pm traffic when leaving) plus tips. Total with tips came to $37 for the round trip. The i-Ride trolleys run from the Premium Mall back parking lot (that is where you tell the cab driver to drop you) and those trolleys will take you along international drive. Once you are on International Drive it is a whole lot easier to get around. The I-Ride website is actually quite a good one for info.

When we stayed at Pop there were taxis outside all the time, we just walked out and got one, if there wasn't one there, a guy at the front would just call us one :) i should think there is Taxis at the front of all resorts?

Actually, you are right. I never took that option as we used it as an excuse to grab a quick breakfast at DTD while it was quiet and save some fare at the same time :rotfl2: The resort guest services desk will call one for you if there aren't any outside or if you want to specifically prebook something. Totally forgot about that.

There are taxis at most resorts, but at Saratoga Springs the valet staff have to call one down from Port Orleans (so you shouldn't have any trouble getting one from there, Donna). If cost is an issue, you can get a Lynx bus to most destinations (across the road from the Downtown Disney bus station on Hotel Plaza Blvd). Getting back by taxi from the places you've mentioned won't be a problem.

You can also call Guest Services and arrange for the taxi to come and pick you up at your nearest bus stop.

I may be wrong but I thought that Dolly Parton closed down. Please correct me if I am wrong!!

I hadn't spotted that in the list, but you're absolutely right, Ann. Premium Outlets bought it for parking space, but then built the multi-storey :confused3. In the current economic climate, I can't see them expanding further any time soon, so Dolly sold it for nothing.

Check out the post How to get to Florida Mall-no car (sorry don't know how to do links)
Kath gives lots of advice on going places via bus, from DD.

Thanks for all the travel/taxi info. My hubby will be sad that dolly show has closed as he has wanted to go for years :(

re Dolly Partons Dixie Stampede
yep has closed when i was out last september it had just opened up as a FLEA MARKET as if the area need another one:confused3

Unsurprisingly, the flea market has also now bitten the dust.
