we will be traveling in a party of 8 and have a few early morning meal reservations and would rather take a taxi from our resort CBR to our meal locations (Polynesian is one). I know there are taxis outside the resort lobby but will there be bigger van type taxis that can fit 8 or do we need to request one of those about an hour ahead?

Any idea on cost from CBR to Polynesian

CBR to Grand Floridian???

THANKS;)

With 8 you have to take two taxis. The vans only hold 7 passengers and they generally won't squeeze more because it's illegal and they only have 7 seatbelts.

If for some reason you ever have 7 or fewer, you can ask for a van about 15 minutes ahead and have no trouble; there are tons and tons of van cabs at WDW. If there isn't one waiting, one can be there in minutes. They cost the same as the sedans.

But two regular sedans are easy to get. At a regular hotel you can go to the front and say you have 8 people going to the Poly and need two cabs. They'll call two cabs over and help you in. With a spread-out resort like CBR or SSR, you might want to call Mears directly and have them send the cabs to your building. I usually use the "Yellow Cab" number (407-699-9999), but Yellow, Checker, City and one or two others are all Mears.

You may want to designate a "cab captain" for each cab who knows where you're going, has the cash, etc.

For estimating fares, I like taxifarefinder, because they use actual driving routes to estimate distance rather than just getting a straight-line distance and multiplying by a fudge factor.

It says CBR to Poly is $20 with tip and that sounds about right. It might be plus or minus a few dollars. Grand Floridian just adds about a dollar, since it's about a half-mile further.

do you think they'd let us use a van since we have one child 2 yrs old that would sit in a lap? Not sure I'd be able to get het to use a seatbelt anyways and she'd be small enough to slip out of it anyways...KWIM?

It is a state law that she should be in a car seat--including in a taxi. You will need to plan for this.

we have never used a carseat in a taxi and I don't even see how it's possible

You can request a taxi that has a car seat. Florida law requires children 3 and under to be in a car seat in a taxi.

If you don't want to pay for 2 taxis, the buses start running at 6:30.

This is a controversial topic. We have in fact used our own carseat in a taxi. You just carry it around with you. It's a pain, no doubt. We've also held a child in a taxi (not at WDW, though). Florida law says you have to have a carseat for children, and it also says you can't have 8 in a cab designed for 7. Will you find a cab driver willing to bend those laws? I don't know. I know that in big cities like New York and London people regularly ride around in cabs with no seat belts, and take toddlers in cabs with them without a car seat. Florida may be different.

You certainly can try it, but you definitely should be prepared for the possibility that the driver won't take you. Maybe they're much more likely to ticket drivers in Florida for these kinds of things. I honestly have no idea.

One thing you won't find is anyone from the cab company or Disney saying it's OK. They don't want the liability.

If you want a guarantee that everything will work, bring the smallest, lightest car seat or booster seat you can carry. We had one for a while that was basically just a small booster and it wasn't much of a pain to carry around.

Alternatively, ask for a cab with a carseat for a two-year-old. You would think this is a request they get on a regular basis at WDW.
