Hi,

Does anyone know how much a taxi from the airport to Aulani for four adults with 6 pieces of luggage will cost?? It it cheaper to rent a car at Aulani instead of the airport.

Thanks for your help,
Debbie

There is no public transportation out there. If you don't have a car, you will be stuck with the resort, the resorts within walking distance, and any excursions that you book through the concierge. Fine if you want a vacation of very expensive resort meals, sitting on the beach, and bus tours. Gas and car rental tend to both be expensive in Hawaii, but I suspect you'll want one.

Gas was only slightly more than here in NYS, but perhaps a bit more in than in the lower taxed states. At the time it was around 3.75 at home, and there it was between $3.95 up to $4.05. But, the Island isn't so big that you'll be burning tons of gas. We never went through a tank and traveled the north shore and back, Pearl Harbor and back, Diamond and and beyond, then back, and Kualoa Ranch and back, plus several trips to the local stores.

Rental cars were actually cheaper for us (we kept re-booking as better deals showed up) than some times when we went to Orlando. I think we paid about $220 for a full size car for 7 full days. I've paid more than that in Orlando (at the same company, Hertz) for 5 full days.

Regardless of any price difference, I highly recommend a rental car. While I haven't been to Aulani yet, but lived on the island for four years. Rule number one for our numerous house guests was rent your own car. This is the only way to see the island. We went to the beach where Aulani now sits many times. I'm sure there are numerous activities there, but it is on the more remote side of the island. It's a good 20-30 min from Honolulu, Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, etc, etc. You'll be missing out If you don't see some of these sights!

I think Alamo has a rental desk at Aulani. You could do one way rentals to/from the airport. I got my car through Costco....not bad prices.

I've been watching rates for our January trip and Alamo with Costco codes has consistantly been the cheapest. Book early and then monitor the prices. The rates right now for our January trip are way more now than when I booked.
