taxi cab costs in the World

Okay I know that you can pick up a taxi cab very easily at DTD. I assume that you can at all other parks as well. Is this correct. We will be at Disney from 12/5-12/12 and I have considered using a cab several evenings in my plan. We will be staying at POP. One night we will be having dinner at the Captains Grille and I also want to tour the Beach Club to see the Christmas decorations that night and I thought it would be best to take a cab. I was also thinking to lessen the travel back to POP on our Illuminations night and our night for MVMCP to just get a cab on both of those nights as well. My question is does it really cut down on a lot of travel time and how much would you estimate the cost to be? It will be me, DH and DD6 and I am sure we will have a stroller in tow all of the time for her especially for these late nights!

Figure between $17-$32 per trip, plus tip.

Only board "company cabs."
Don't choose non-company-affiliated ("Gypsy") cabs.

Current taxi fare in the Orlando area is $2.20 for the first 1/4 mile and then 55¢ for each additional 1/4 mile (or 80 seconds of waiting time). In addition, there is a $0.50 surcharge on all rides (except the surcharge is $1.00 to or from the airport).

And Mears owns most of the taxis in Orlando.

The evenings that you are at Epcot or at the Beach Club, you can minimize your cab cost by walking to the Boardwalk Inn and getting a cab from the front entrance. POP is just a few blocks from there. Be sure to check out the Christmas decorations at the Yacht Club and the Boardwalk Inn, as well.

I am confused is the Boardwalk, Yacht Club and Beach Club all in the same location? I was told that we could have dinner at Captains Grille at Yacht Club and then walk over to Beach Club to see the decorations there. Are you saying then to walk to another place to catch the cab. Should it really cost more that $10.00 or $15.00 if it is just around the corner? This is the one trip that we will have to make by cab, but the others aren't musts since it was more just for convenience.

Yes, the Epcot resorts are all around Crescent Lake, which is smaller than the World Showcase Lagoon. The Boardwalk Inn is a very short boat ride or walk from the Yacht/Beach Clubs.

Robo, could you show one of your famous maps, please?

Here's a quick YouTube video of a panoramic view around the lagoon. The photographer is standing on the Boardwalk side of the lagoon, near ESPN. The resorts across the water are the Yacht/Beach Clubs.

There are lots of videos af the area to look at.

Okay so on our HS day we have a 7:05 reservation for dinner at Captains Grille. I was thinking of taking the boat over to Yacht Club (is that possible). I was really hoping to see a little bit of Osbourne Lights, but we might just have to leave to early. So what time would we have to leave HS to get to Captains Grille by 7:05 by boat or would it be quicker to take a bus? Then after dinner we can walk from there after seeing the decorations over to Beach Club and then over to BoardWalk and catch a cab back. That sounds like a pretty good plan, but how long will it take.

I'm going to move this over to our transportation board for you.

don't know the actual address for either DTD or POP. Any estimates of the fare?

I would suggest you look into a car rental. You could probably get a pretty good rate and it owould be cheaper than cabs.

We are only considering using a cab 2 or 3 times, so I wouldn't think a car would be cheaper. My DH is 6'4", so a economy car wouldn't work. The cabs would also only be one way not round trip. Since we are on the free dining plan I guess it isn't bad to splurge on 2 or 3 one way cab rides. Thanks for the great map!!

Sounds perfect. :)
I would leave DHS by 6:15.
The boat stops are, DHS - Swan/Dolphin - Yacht/Beach - Boardwalk - Epcot.
The boats run every 15-20 minutes, so, if you just miss one, it will delay you quite a bit. Often, the boats will sit at the DHS dock for several minutes to wait for people. The trip from DHS to Yacht/Beach is about 20 minutes. You could walk, but the boat is nice. They like you to be 15 minutes early for ADR check-in. Plenty of time to look at the lobby decorations.

Would it be quicker to take the bus over to Yacht then and not take the boat. It sounds like if I miss it I am going to be waiting for sometime. I guess I would rather spend a little bit longer at HS and possibly get a chance eto see the Osbourne Lights and then catch the bus rather than doing the boat if that would be a better option. OH the details (HA HA)

I'm thinking of doing the same thing ... we have 3 9AM breakfasts and I can't see getting up early enough to catch the Disney buses (and I think in order to get a bus from PC to the Beach Club I might even need to go to a park and then catch a resort bus :confused3).

Anyhow I think it would be cheaper to pay cab fare 4 times (1 round-trip) than rent a car for the week.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there are busses from DHS to the Yacht/Beach Clubs, Swan/Dolphin or the Boardwalk, only the boat.

You can also walk...about 15 minutes from DHS to Yacht/Beach Clubs. You follow the path that goes along the boat route. The route is the pink line on the map on page 1 of this thread.
