Ditto, we owe $4,500 bucks this year (due to my dh's stupidity )

I too will also echo CARLJ's sentiment. Dh & I both have very good paying jobs. I thank the Lord each day.

We haven't gotten word from out accountant yet, but when I did a rough guess-timate on TurboTax and TaxAct, it came back as us owing anywhere between $5K and $8K.

I just about laid an egg. Seriously. I am SO nervous about getting the call from our accountant, I can't tell you. Serious anxiety here. Oh, and last year we only owed $300 - three HUNDRED, not thousand. We didn't change ANYTHING exemption-wise, our income was within 10% of what it was last year...I just can't figure out how it could be SO bad this year.

So anyways, not a lot of sympathy to be had here.

Oh, and I claim two, DH also, despite there being four in our household. We wanted to make sure we never owed much, if anything. Ah, the irony.

We also have to pay this year. I'm waiting until the 15th to file. I would love a $400 refund!

BTW OP, you have it all wrong with the exemptions. The HIGHER your exemptions, the less they take out in taxes. But if you are getting back $400 in a refund, then you are right where you need to be.

My friend says that getting a huge tax refund is the "poor man's savings account." lol.
