We used Turbo tax and found that we are getting a much bigger refund than usual. Now Im worried, did we do it right?

Did this happen to anyone else?

I hear they doubled the child tax credit? I dont know?

We got about 1/6th back as we did last year. We're actually getting much more back from the state than federal.

Did anything change this year?

we owe. so I won't be filing it until the week it is due. :( I wish I could give it to them in the form of pennies.

We're getting back more, but we also bought new energy efficient windows and a new car last year, both of which help on taxes.

We got back abot $1,500 more this year due to some extra tax credits.

I know there is a new work credit...and be careful with turbo tax. if you filed early and had a kid over 17 but was a full time student it some how knocked them off your taxes and you didn't get credit.

We are getting back more as well and I am not sure why. The only thing that changed was the amount of money I put into our flexible spending account for childcare. I put in less money and actually got a credit for the first time. Weird.

When you said "knocked off" did you mean you did not get the child credit or the dependent credit. The first you are no longer entitled to the second you are.

We made the same amount of money, still have 2 dependants, we didnt change anything on payroll, nothing has changed but we are getting almost 3,000.00 more back.

I dont get it?

We're getting back $200 more than last year, but then we also made $8k less than last year. Still, when you make less they withhold less, so I would have thought our refund would have been about the same, given that nothing else changed for us (deductions, etc.). Not looking a gift horse in the mouth though, I double checked the forms before I filed with TT and everything looked correct. Our state refund was almost exactly the same as last year.

no, I know after 17 no more child credit. It is when you answer questions about the student. They sent an email to me. I still owe with fixing it, but I havent filed yet. If someone already filed they have to amend

We won't know until tonight when we have our taxes done. I'm hoping that we don't owe. I was laid off from my job last June and just ended unemployment the first week of January. And, yes, I did opt for having taxes taken out for unemployment after talking with DH.

I've also recently decided to be a SAHM and I'm loving it and so is DS7 :goodvibes

We are getting way more than previous years. DH is making the same as last year. But I did have to quit my job when we were relocated to another state, so our income dropped quite a bit last year.

I'm just happy that we do not owe!

We're getting back approx $1000.00 more than last year. We did not have any changes to the way we filed.

Hmm...we just got ours done last night and we are getting about $600 LESS than last year. We made less but we had less taken out because of the "Making Work Pay" so we were expecting to get less of a refund.

Just got the report from the accountant and last year we got back about $3400 from fed and state. This year we pretty much break even between getting a couple hundred from state and paying that to fed. I am so mad. DH made about $30,000 less last year too. I don't understand. They said we had a lot less in withholding this time. Mine has not changed. State I have nothing withheld so it had to be his. I told him to check with HR to see what may have changed. AT least I dont' have to pay

Well, we had ours done last night. We're getting pretty much the same as last year. However, b/c NY state does not take out state taxes for unemployement, we ended up owing the state about $150.

Because of questions on this thread asking if there were any changes in the taxes, I asked our accountant. There is a one-time stimulas that the President has authorized for 2009 taxes only. So DH and I got and additional $400 each

We miss out on the windows because we bought ours after June 1st. :sad2:

Our insullation still qualifies, but the windows were more money and it's rather annoying to me.

OP: We are getting back a few hundred more in federal and the same in state. (DH needs to adjust his withholding because we get way too much money back-- basically everything he pays.)

Just curious... what do you have to have to do the window/door/insullation credit? Not sure if just the receipts are ok or if you needed any special paperwork. And for how long would you have to keep the receipts? I have never filed any special kind of tax credit before and this is my first time using turbo tax so I am a bit confused.
