Who/how does your taxes get done?

I usually do it myself. (I also prepare the 990 for a tax-exempt professional society.) I had a couple life changes in 2021, plus I’m nearing retirement, so I’m actually using a CPA this year.

I use TurboTax. The price is a bit too high but I am used to it and get my taxes down in a few hours using it.

I do my kids taxes (although I want to walk them through it this year so they can learn to do them on their own) and I do a couple other's taxes for free (my BIL, my sister and another friend). I try to use the free software available.

I've been doing online for years. I bounce between where I can get it the cheapest/best return. HR Block, Tax Slayer, Tax Act, Turbo Tax.

We have used the same accountant for 28 years. We own a business and multiple homes. For peace of mind we just prefer to have him do them I run all the reports and send over all the documents. I could do it myself but I despise doing taxes. I help the kids with their taxes though.

It's not too difficult to do taxes with only a single W2. I do my own.

What I don't like is there's 3 women in my life that act like the world is going to end if I don't do their taxes for them. Now my mother has an annuity income and IRA distributions, sorry, you complain that you don't know what to do with all your money, I'd suggest an accountant in tax season.

Same with the other 2, I don't know what happens with Doordash as that's what my daughter does and the other one has a bit more complicated than a single W2. Why they get mad at me because they don't want to pay an accountant is beyond me.

Have used tax software to do our taxes for many years. Used TurboTax in the past, but switched to H&R block several years ago I believe when they offered some sort of special. I find it helps to stick with the same product each year since various information automatically carries over to the current return. Unless you own a business or have some sort of very unusual income/expense situations, these tax software products are great. No more trying to figure out what goes where, how to input things or do the various calculations. They step you through a series of questions and automatically fill out all of the relevant forms. I also prefer using the software on my home PC compared to inputting something into an online website, just seems more secure to me.

Allows you to file the Federal forms electronically which also works great. The state charges an extra fee to file electronically which makes no sense to me, so I still mail them the completed forms.

I got a lady that runs a small tax service out of her home. She is retired as an accountant for a PGA golf course.

Military One Source allows free access to H&R Block online submissions. We've used them the last 10 years.

My financial planner includes it for free so he does my taxes. They are pretty complicated and I would not even attempt to do them myself.

I have done my son's taxes in Turbo Tax for the past two years but this year we will be filing them together so he knows how to do it. His are very simple.

On line Turbo Tax for me. In the early years I could use the version that filed for free but then I had to itemize so ended up paying to file. It never bothered me since no matter how hard I tried to not to, I always got a refund. I have a feeling I might actually be paying some this year so will probably use Turbo Tax and print and mail them instead of filing on line.
