figuring out taxes today and every year we give to certain charities. this year we also gave money for several walks...autism, etc. is that money I can use as a charitable donation on my taxes?

In Canada, it definitely is so I'm sure the same is true in the US. You have to have been issued a receipt with their charitable number on it though.

If you are itemizing your deductions and gave to charity, then you can deduct those donations from your taxes. Walks, bike rides, and other sponsorship activities that benefit a charity are usually eligible. If you are uncertain about the eligibility of the donations, then I suggest contacting the charity in question and speaking to someone in their development department.

thanks! I actually just found a couple of e-mails regarding them from way back then (see, it pays to be a pack-rat sometimes. lol). they have printable sheets that give the info for tax purposes.

I received a couple via e-mail as well. It's very convienent, I thought, that way you don't have to worry about finding the receipts.
