Hi,
We rented points for the first time for our upcoming trip this fall. I remember reading somewhere that there is some type of room tax due at check-out, similar to the hotel tax at the resorts. For those who have rented before, is this correct? If so, how much? Or is this something that DVC owners pay in their contracts? I'm just trying to figure OOP costs. TIA!

You, as a renter, will not have to pay any resort tax. Only charges you make to your room account will be expected to be settled when you check out.

Edited to add, Hawaii is or maybe different.

None of the DVC resorts located in FL, SC & CA collect any taxes or fees based on your use of the room when staying on points.

The State of Hawaii does impose a tax so if you stay at Aulani you would have to pay this tax before check-out.

DVC charges RCI members who trade into DVC at $95 fee. But unless you are the RCI member or you have a guest certificate from RCI, you wouldn't be paying this.

BUT, I think the state of Florida does require collection of taxes on hotel rooms and the member may get into hot water if they don't pay the state.

RCI is a trademark name for a timeshare company. The DVC has an agreement with RCI for DVC members to use their points to reserve a timeshare through RCI at one of their many resorts. RCI members also exchange their timeshare weeks or points for a DVC stay. As a DVC member we pay a $95 fee to exchange our points with RCI and it looks like the DVC charges RCI members the same $95 to exchange their timeshare into a DVC resort. But that's not a tax. It's just a fee.
