I'd be happy to hire them. I just wouldn't allow them to work wearing the NASCAR gear. Just the same as I'd be happy to hire the guy with the tattoo, but wouldn't allow him to work with it displayed.

Can you see how ridiculous this is? I am glad there are those of us out there who do not judge based upon looks but rather actions. As far as I know we all have the same body parts and we are all born….naked!! We really need to get over it…Americans are such prudes.

I would not have a problem with it, even with my children. It shouldn't even be an issue. What matters is the quality of service and how the individual treats you. Great opportunity to teach your children not to "judge a book by it's cover." I think there are many adults that could stand to learn that lesson.

I also agree. In these cases it should only be about the service, not how they look.

Maybe some of these people have other problems with the people in thses stores as well. Can't see why they would limit the things they don't like aobut them to jewelry and body art.

Sure I would, if they were applying for being a lifeguard. Our local pool has applicants apply by jumping in and timing them swimming the length of the pool.

It depends on the situation. I honestly think people get all in a twist over what amounts to nothing. If a child notices the tattoo, just explain it as that person's choice and move on. I personally don't have that high of expectations of a shoe salesman.

I really don't have a problem with people having visible tattoos, and it probably would not even have registered with me that this guy's tattoo was a naked woman.

Maybe I am biased though, as I have a tattoo (which is usually visible at my professional job and was even visible at my job interviews). I know that tattoos and piercings do not define a person, nor the quality of their work. From an employee who has to work with the public, I just expect them to be able to work well with people and be polite. That, however, doesn't seem to be a job qualification for a lot of them these days, but that's a whole other thread.

She has one on her calf of Mickey Mouse smoking a joint and holding a bottle of whiskey. Her newest one, that she just loves, is on her lower back. It is Tink and Pinocchio in a postion that I REALLY don't want to have my kids or any other kids see and have to explain it to them.

I didn't take the OP to be offended by the fact that the guy had a tattoo but that it was a naked women. I agree. The only thing I want to see naked in a shoe store are feet.

You are absolutely correct! I was not offended by the fact he had several tattoos, like I said, I have one and most of my family have several. I was just surprised when I saw the one on his arm of the naked woman, that any store would allow their employee, who is out on the floor with the public, including children, to work with this uncovered.

I guess since this was only at a "Wal-Mart" type shoe store and he was only a "shoe salesman", the employees aren't held up to the high standards of employees at, say, Norstroms.

1) Short of strip clubs and the like, where is there not the chance the person would not come into contact wit *gasp* children? Seems a little much to exclude anything on something as vague as that. There is almost always the chance people will come into contact with children.

2) Not a shoe salesman, but a guy who works at a store that sells shoes where the shoe access is self service. Quite a big difference.

I'm not too sure about the naked woman tattoo myself. I don't think that I'd like seeing pictures of naked woman all over the store so I think that a visible tattoo would be much the same to me. It all seems like it should be private.

Tattoos themselves are cool though.

Would you have a problem with a naked lady standing there with children coming into and out of the store. Nevermind that would be against the law. I don't see the difference in stipping in front of kids in the store vs. walking around with a pic of it on your arm.

Well I guess I would wonder if the kids would even be looking at this guys arm I mean c'mon do you really think in these days that kids don't see naked women on t.v. or the computers or pictures that other kids bring to school.

I honestly went into an interview (expecting not to get it, I really didn't want the job) with my Dale Jr. jacket on and both of my earrings in. PLUS it was for a position with the government's energy and utilities board.

Needless to say, I didn't get the job.

I have no tattoos, never had any desire to have any tattoos, but could not care less if someone else has tattoos. I'd hire someone with a naked lady tattoo and not think twice about it. I'm a stickler for some things, but tattoos to me have become more commonplace, and just really aren't that big of a deal. As far as the naked lady, I just don't think naked people are offensive. It is even in our handbook that you can not have tattoos that can be seen in your scrubs showing while on shift . Also no facial jewlery and no earings for guys at all .
We have a Doctor who is covered in Tattoos and has earing he has to take them out before putting on his lab coat. He also has to wear long sleeves while working .

I have nothing against them both my kids have them and so does my DH .

I agree. In some instances tattoos and piercings can be somewhat unprofessional. I keep my earrings in here at work and no one says anything about them. I figure if the president of the company has any problems with this he'd tell me.

You can't make him dress differently than the other workers, that would be discrimination. You can't refuse to hire because he has them either, that would be discrimination.

You would not believe how hard it is to hire people for retail. Most people do not understand that you have to work almost every weekend, and quite a few nights too. It is very hard to find someone who will work a schedule that changes from week to week, and is a hard worker, and nice to the customers. A tatoo would be the least of my worries.

That's not discrimination...it's called dress code. And yes you can refuse to hire someone if they are not complying with the dress code (i.e. where I work, no extreme hair dye colors so if someone is unwilling to redye their neon pink hair back to a natural color...they're not going to get hired)

I work at The Disney Store. Though it's no longer owned by The Walt Disney Company, dress code guidelines are still as strict as if we were still owned by TWDC. It wasn't all that long ago the parks started allowing corn rows for hairstyles. Makeup has to look natural. Hair color has to look natural (no extreme hair dye jobs). No visible tattoos. Earrings can only be on women and can only be a certain size and you can only wear one in each ear. No bracelets or necklaces. Etc etc etc.

When a company wants to project a certain image, they will issue a dress code. If a person doesn't want to comply with the dress code, the company has the right to either not hire them, or fire them if they are hired.

I've worked in retail for the last 10 years, so trust me, I know the difficulties of finding the right person. But the tattoo being the least of your worries? I would hope following your company's policies would be one of your priorities. After all, what is more important to protect? The tattoo? Or the customer who takes issue with how your employees look? Because believe me, there are plenty of people willing to stop shopping at a place when they are uncomfortable with the image that's being projected. It may seem fickle, but that's the reality.

How much for one that’s a size of a quarter?

How much for one that covers your bicep?

How much for the big ones that cover your back?

Are you charged by detail? By inch?

Are portraits of people more expensive?

Does it hurt?

Maybe someday I will get my son’s names tattooed on me.

PS- my BIL got his name tattooed on his forearm when he was a teenager in big letters with a snake running through them. He is now an architect and has to wear long sleeve shirts when talking to clients.
