I think it was the removal of transfats. They taste awful, their smaller than they used to be, and the consistency is odd. But then again, so are Hostess items now.

This. They pretty much taste like cardboard now.

Entemman's and Hostess are the same way. Took out the transfats and they are pretty tasteless now.

I guess it's good - I'm never tempted anymore!

Never ever eat food prepared by Wawa. I worked there for 5 years during high school and college. I think I was the only person who actually clean during their shift. The hot dog chili was supposed to only be on the steam table for 24 hours. Sometimes it would stay there for 2 or 3 days. Nobody ever did a deli wipe or cleaned the slicers. I worked in 4 stores over the years.

ITA... Wawa!! Basically anywhere in Eastern PA, you can find Tastycakes. I think most grocery stores have them, it's a law Wawas are much more convenient though.

Maybe Wawa is more convenient, but more often than not they charge full price for the family packs of Tastykakes. ($3.99 ??) Even when they're on sale, it's not as good a price as most supermarkets. In the metro Philly area, you can ALWAYS find a great deal at SOME supermarket that week. Acme, Shop Rite, Pathmark, Superfresh, etc. At least one will have them for $2.50 or $2.00.

Wawa sells over 15 million made-to-order hoagies a year and no one's ever died from them, or even gotten seriously ill.

Hot dog chili hasn't been available for years.

Yes, there are some skanky Wawas, but most are clean and the food service areas are kept very sanitary.

Looks like you've had some mediocre managers/store supervisors or even District Manager if conditions are what you've described. If "nobody" ever did a deli wipe or cleaned the slicers in 4 stores over 5 years, YOU were part of the problem.

We get hoagies from Wawa pretty often in the summer. Love them! We've never had a problem.

There will always be someone who works for a restaurant or a store who will say don't eat here for whatever reason. Wawa, Mc Donalds, Subway, whatever...I'm sure someone will always tell a gross story. I'd rather not know the nitty gritty details, thanks!

Have you tried the butterscotch krimpets Rita's water ice? It is yummy.

No way! I'll have to run to Rita's tomorrow to see if they have any on hand.

My favorite Tastykakes are the Banana Kreamies and the Chocolate Eclair pie.

They used to be great...now they are terrible.

Totally agree. I grew up in Philly and now live in Jersey. I don't find it to be the freshness - the icing on the krimpets and chocolate cupcakes taste like crap.

I can't pass up a Tastykakes thread!

Grew up on them on LBI back in the 70's and loved them. Missed them for yrs. Now available here and can pass them up because they just aren't the same! I have 2 boxes in the freezer that I don't even want.
