Looks like it was due to someone jumping on the bridge and it broke! Yikes! I know it's not a popular attraction but I enjoy going up there to take a break and watch down below. If anyone hears info on when it will go back up, please post!

I hope they can get it fixed quickly (and check the rest of the bridge for safety) so that the Treehouse can reopen soon.

Seriously though, glad no injuries. I go up there just for the views of the park. I like getting views of the park from above, and wish there were more places I could do that.

Several of the comments on that article are saying that this was intentional destruction of property, yet there are bridges at Disney that are implicitly intended for jumping on. At Disney World in Animal Kingdom, there's a bridge in the Oasis that bounces and then there are the bridges on Tom Sawyer Island. I would expect any pedestrian bridges to be able to hold enough weight for adults to jump on them without failing, especially in an attraction that resembles an epic playground.

Those comments though - to want more electronic surveillance or even wishing harm on the dad who caused this is going too far.

The guy's an idiot and lucky he didn't seriously injure himself.

The attraction is overbuilt and safe. If your goal is to do your best to damage or destroy something you shouldn't be surprised when you do.

Doing this on a bridge is Darwinian

Disney closed it out of an abundance of caution (and rightfully so), but no one -- not even a toddler -- could possibly fall through the space of one bridge-slat. The greatest danger was perhaps a broken ankle. And they could have fixed that slat in 10 minutes.

But when there's even a hint of an attraction being unsafe, Disney is going to make a show of going to the extreme to make certain it's safe. It's as much about guest confidence in park safety as it is actual safety.
