Very nice trip. The drive is about 100 miles/2 hours with good traffic, so yes it's doable. It's a charming city with a long Greek history. You can spend a couple of hours or all day sightseeing and charter fishing.
We went on a cruise in Jan out of Tampa and went a day early so we could spend a day there. DH & DD had never been and they loved it. Hey where else can you go to a sponge museum? Be sure to soak it all in!
If you do go to Tarpon Springs, look up a place called "Lucky Dill Deli". They have the best, biggest sandwiches I've had since moving from N.Y. To FL 34 yrs.ago! I usually get a Pastrami Sandwich on rye,it's never disappointing!
We are staying at Clearwater prior to WDW and plan on going to Tarpon Spgs since we haven't been in years. I am hoping to spend just 2-3 hours there. I'll have to look up the deli, I haven't had a good pastrami in a while!
Was just there over spring break and loved it! The kids learned a lot and we had some great Greek food. We even spotted some manatees in a small inlet. It's a fun day trip!
Such fond memories of Tarpon Springs for me. My grandparents had a small house near Clearwater and we'd head to Tarpon Springs all the time. There used to be a restaurant called Pappas there. I looked it up after reading this and it's something else now.
I'd love to visit again someday and feel like I was with my Grandpa again. My fondest memories are all the little shops with sponge and salt water taffy.
