Just started my yearly process of getting Disney Gift cards with previously purchased Target gift cards at a discount to help pay for Maintenance fees and our annual Dis trip. Looks like you can no longer purchase Disney Gift cards with Target Gift cards. Just an FYI everyone. Don't know when that policy changed. I am a bit bummed. I have about $400 in Target gift cards sitting in my account.... I should have bought all my Dis gift cards last year. Oh well.

Looks like the 5% target card discount still applies.

You can still use the Target GCs to purchase Disney GCs in stores. You cannot use Target GCs to pay for Disney GCs using the online store. You won't get the additional 5% REDCard discount when paying with Target GCs but you can at least use those Target GCs up.

Unfortunately, this started a while ago. I had a few Target giftcards and placed an order a few months ago. The order went through but then they cancelled it. I called and they said Target giftcards could no longer be used to purchase giftcards. They didn't say I could still use them in store. That's good to know ad I still have a few larger ones.

Yes, it is a shame, but I can understand they didn't like us to "double dip" and get both the Redcard discount as well as using discounted Target gift cards from 3rd party vendors. I have started buying Disney gift cards at Sams Club where they are already discounted. This quarter I get an additional 5% rewards at Sams for using my Chase Freedom card, so it is close (but not quite) a 10% savings. I think Discover card also has a special offer for extra rewards at Sams Club this quarter. We are just going to have to look for bargains elsewhere if we want to get more than 5%. I just hope Target never reclassifies the Disney gift cards where we don't even get the 5% with the Redcard.

FWIW, I don't think it's so much the "double-dip" concern as it is an anti-fraud measure. Too easy to "launder" stolen gift cards by buying other gift cards.

I've used target gift cards to buy Disney gift cards at the physical stores (not online), but I am usually buying something else, too. Who goes to Target and comes home without something they didn't plan on buying that trip? :teeth:

I called to find out when the policy changed--- I was told 4 months ago :(. Oh well. I'll try to go to Sams Club and purchase with my Discover Card, but can't do that until December sometime (no Sams club by where I live). Thanks everyone!

I just did this in the store 2 months ago. Maybe you have to go into a physical Target store? I don't have a red card so the on line ordering was never an advantage to me.

As @Marionnette previously posted the change was only to online ordering (happened back in July or August). In store still works (unless you get a rogue employee who refuses to accept it as payment). In store you Only get the 5% off for what is paid for with the red card.

On Dec 4 Target is having a 10% off sale on Target gift cards. As of now, you can still use Target gift cards to buy Disney Gift cards in store.

I think it's to prevent the double-dipping. Why else would they still allow instore purchase of other GCs if it's for anti-fraud?

I agree with this. By using them in store, there's potentially no tracking or identifiable information, whereas an online purchase would have a shipping address. I'd guess that Target finds the profits on other items, potentially purchased in, store make up for any losses on reduced price Target cards.
