Target e-gift card question

I received an e-gift card today with my purchase. The email says I can use it online or download the gift card to my phone to use it in the store. I'm wondering if I download it to my phone, can it be used ONLY in store; or could I still use online also? Anybody have any experience with this?

No, but I'm so confused by this whole gift card portion! I tried to send it to my phone but it's asking me how I want to pay. It says it's a promotional gift card but it says I owe $100. I wanted to use that today but I can't figure out how to get the dang thing!!

At Target if you get a gift card as a reward with purchase you can't use it right away. You must use the gift card you receive on a later purchase. It can be later in the same day but it must be a completely separate. In store it activates quickly (as in go out to the car with your purchase put the stuff in the car, slap your head as you realize you forgot milk go back and get the milk and use the gift card to buy the milk ). It may take a little longer with the online ones but they definitely activate fairly soon.

I ordered an ipad last night and got a confirmation email for the ipad and gift card. It said my gift card would arrive via email in about 4 hours, so this morning I kept checking and there was nothing except the confirmation email for the purchase. I clicked on "track order" on that email and a gift card thing came up as if you could choose to load it to your phone, send it by mail or get it in email. It also said "test" or something. I am assuming, since it keeps showing me that I owe $100 for it (it's a $100 gc), that it isn't the real thing? I was hoping to use it today for an in-store purchase.

I haven't tried downloading mine to my phone yet, or using it online. I remember reading "gift card with purchase will not be sent until items have shipped" at some point (maybe during my checkout). So even though we got the gift card email, maybe it's not active until the item ships? Just a guess.

Whenever I get prepaid cards for gifts I convert them to mobile target gift cards. I send them to my phone, sometimes it can take hours. I save in my account and I can use in store by them scanning the barcode on my phone or I can type the info into my order online and use online.

How do you do this?

I got a free e-gift card from Kellogg's Family Rewards and I can't get it to go to my phone using the link in the e-mail. I keep getting told that the link isn't valid.

Open up the Target App, go to my gift cards and sign in (or register an account)

Name the gift card.
Copy/Paste the card number (likely beginning in 041) from your email be sure to delete any spaces or dash marks.
Do the same with the access code.

Btw I ordered a ipad with free gift card at 2:08 CST and just got my email with my gift card number at 12pm CST.

They activate right away at the store. You can use it the very next purchase, no need to wait. I do it all the time, hold something back, finish first purchase, receive gift card, use it on what I held back. No need to wait in line twice etc.

So: if I want to load it on my phone, I need to first dowload the Target app, correct?

And: I think I ordered my iPad right after you posted about it but I haven't gotten any emails other than order confirmation. It will be a separate email, won't it? So I just have to be patient?

It was in a seperate email so yes, be patient.

If you originally asked for it to go to your phone it would come through more like a mobile coupon via text message. If you have an iphone it might ask if you'd like to add it to your passbook.

Ah! That's great to know! I've done it with Starbucks but never thought about it for Target. Perfect! I'm still waiting for my gc to come through, but my ipad is still showing as not delivered so I guess I'll have to *try* for some more patience. I wish I'd just gone ahead and bought the second ipad but I thought I'd be able to use the gc right away on another transaction, and by the time I realized it wasn't arriving right away they'd sold out On the plus side, I did get one and I have several little cards plus 2 $50s (and presumably a $100), so I'll combine those and put them toward another ipad, assuming there will be some in stock before Christmas. Pains me a bit not to get the $100 gift card, though!!!! However, I don't think I'm up for standing in line at Target to try for one and there's always the possibility that they will offer another gift card deal, though probably not $100.

Ok, I did everything but I'm not sure I did it correctly. Does it automatically combine the separate cards into one? I see a total gift card balance but they're all individually listed also. Can I just use the total balance without opening each card when I want to use them?

It automatically separates them (just like Starbucks!) but when you click on one it gives the combine option. Click that and it will ask you which cards to combine.

I nickname one card "main" the rest I just name with a letter. That way I always know which card to click on and hit "combine"
