Target and Goodwill: Did you know?

I don't know what the smell is, but it IS NOT good. Not to mention the employees that work there. I don't want to be mean, but there are a few VERY STRANGE people that work at the one near where I work. I just don't know...I wish there was a good thrift store around here. We have the Salvation Army but I refuse to go there. I have gone there once and ran into 4 clients there. I have not been back since!! UGH!

sarah - A major part of what Goodwill does is provide training and employment for people with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. I have several mentally disabled patients who work at Goodwill stores. If not for Goodwill, most of these people wouldn't have jobs and would be living on welfare.

Here is a clue....

I have WATCHED Target give returns back to the staff to put on the floor.

(Assume your avg. Target employee is just like a Disney bus driver when it comes to telling you things about how the store is run.... Managment doesn't REALLY tell the bus drivers breaking news either.. )

No store "destroys" returned clothes. And even if they donated them or sell them at a loss to Goodwill that's probably NOT driving your cost as they took a tax deduction for thier cost at least!

I didn't mean to offend you...I was just stating my opinion. But, I am sure that Goodwill doesn't pay those kind of people enough to not be on welfare...just a thought. I did know that they are kind of like Walmart-they hire just about anyone.

This is very true. I used to work with developmentally disabled adults and we contracted jobs for them at GW. I can tell you that I had to process my clients paychecks and the pay that they receive plus the way the system works (Goodwill and SSI) is apalling.

That's probably true. They probably aren't able to support themselves strictly on what they make at Goodwill, especially since many disabled folks aren't able to put in a 40-hour workweek. Being disabled, though, they qualify for various government aide programs. At least by working at Goodwill, they need a little less support.
