Tapings At MGM

What shows are actually taped at MGM and is it possible to see any of these producations? I know someone mentioned Pettsburgh and I don't know what this is but are there any more?

There is currently nothing being taped at MGM, nor anything on the schedule for the immediate future. Petsburgh has been gone for a couple of years, I think. Any future scheduling info will be given on the info line.

When we were at MGM back in May, they were holding the late-night EMH test. One night at MGM, a camera crew began setting up near the Brown Derby around dusk. We were on our way to Fantasmic, so we didn't give it more than a casual glance.

A couple hours later, we were still wandering the park and it looked like the crew had just finished filming. We walked past the camera setup, and saw several other guests getting autographs from a guy. I could be wrong, but I think it was Greg Proops (sp?) who was on ABC's "Who's Line..." show.

The sorcerer's hat was all lit up can clearly being used as a backdrop. My guess was that they shot some sort of WDW or ABC promotional footage that night.

But, to add to what WDSearcher said, this taping appeared to be no different than any other Disney events you might randomly stumble across at any of the parks. I remember taking one of the MGM tours back in '97 and getting a look at some of the sets from the HBO series "From the Earth to the Moon." But it's now been a while since MGM was used as a working studio.

I think I phrased my original post wrong. I'm not really interested in going to the park and seeing things be taped. I was just curious as to what shows have been taped at MGM and/or are currently being taped. But thanks for all your information. It sure is interesting to know that you can call a number and find out the current tapings.

They used to tape The New Mickey Mouse Club at the Studios (back in the Christina / Britney / Justin days) -- that was something that was "in residence" for quite some time. "Sheena" was in residence for a while, with two bungalows at the Studios and a lot of work done out in the woodsy areas.

The HBO series "From the Earth to the Moon" was in production in two soundstages throughout 1997.

Films shot (in part) at the studios include: "Marvin's Room," "Passenger 57," "Oscar," "Quick Change," "Ernest Saves Christmas," "Splash Too," "Separate But Equal" and "Instinct."

Some of the television shows which have taped at Disney-MGM Studios include: "Roseanne," "Full House," "Wheel of Fortune," "ESPN College Football Awards," "Talk Soup," "Step By Step," "Barbara Walters Special," and "Live! With Regis & Kathie Lee." Most of those were special "we're going to Disney World" style episodes.

Recently the Meredith Viera version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire filmed there. They don't really use the studios down there much anymore.
